  • What recruiting areas does Cassity have the strongest ties too?

    Farmy75

  • Mike's recruiting area's or strongest are Ohio, Fla, W Ky. He coached at Paducah Tilghman back in the day in the 70's-80's.
I also believe he was key in recruiting for UL and Illinois in the Ohio-Illinois-midwest area. He has connections to Fla as well. I think if you are UK than you have to get 3-4 prospects from Ohio every year, maybe not the one's Oh St wants but the one's Cincy, Mich St, WVU, Mich st. covet. I think you also have a pretty good nucleus of recruiters in Ga which I think is and should be number 2 on our list. Recruit guys not that Ga or Fla wants but get in on the kids UNC,WVU, Va TEch, Ga Tech, get the 6-8 guys who are good enough for these programs and not get in the fray against homestate bulldogs. Ga produces in my opinion better prospects than anyone, not the numbers of Fl or Texas but the players are almost always good. Do the same in Fla and get in on some guys that the big 3 aren't involved in and battle the UNC's,WVU's, Pitt, Va Techs of the world.

I have always thought UK should hire a guy that can recruit New Jersey-Philly area. Pitt had a guy on staff that wrapped up a ton of the top talent in Jersey. Most don't have allegiance or like college but they want to come south and play in the next step to the NFL. UK should step out of the box since it looks like they have a pretty good Ga-Fl-Bama recruiting staff. Cassitty will hopefully help with the inexcuseable lapse in Ohio recruiting. Probably need one more guy there.
    IMO

    Real Deal 2

  • I would add a Maryland/DC/Northern VA guy more than Jersey. Some good football is played around there. VaTech is far enough where they really arent a factor and its the same for UVA. Maryland isnt exactly on fire these days either.

I think I might concentrate a little more on southern Virginia than northern, specifically the Hampton Roads area (Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Hampton) because there is an enormous amount of talent here.

  • There is some good talent around VBeach/Norfolk but that is big time VaTech area. I live about 1 hour and a half from Norfolk and I am swamped with VaTech crap. My 5 yr old son asks me just about every day, "Daddy do we like Tech?" I tell him they are okay because ALL of his friends like them, but he knows UK is first and foremost.

  • Here is a link for Hampton Roads recruiting.

247 sports notes regarding the players listed in the link:

    1. Eli Harold **** DE, ATH
    2. Kwontie Moore LB, not in 247 database
    3. JC Coleman **** all purpose back
    4. Anthony Cooper **** WR,
    5. Rhakeem Stallings, LB NR, several offers
    6. Mike Tyson, OLB (DB in link) NR , several BCS offers
    7. Courtnye Wynn, **** DT several BCS offers
    8. Alston Smith *** DT, committed to VT
    9. Der'woun Greene *** WR, S, ATH, multiple BCS offers (VT commit)
    10. Mark Hall *** OLB, UV commit

I think that should give an idea how loaded this area is. I am disappointed that some of the guys rated near the top are either not rated or not even in the database here.

But in Hampton Roads, from what I have seen, all college talk is either UNC or Duke (other than some UK areas biggrin) but it is drowned out by the pro talk. There is a local station that has played SEC football (and basketball) every weekend for as long as I have been here, eight years.

Cool, I live in Portsmouth (basically where Portsmouth and Chesapeake and Suffolk come together) about a mile and a half from where I664 crosses Western Branch (near the MMBT, 164 is outside my back window) and work at NNSY. It seems that everyone who works at the yard (besides me and a few others) is either a Redskins or Cowboys fan and it drives me crazy. They don't even like college football or basketball.

Edit Note: I just realized that I can see my front door on google maps. Ha.

  • Thinking about it now I believe we have talked about this before. Here everybody is a redskins or dallas fan but they root for VaTech.

  • Reading UK's press release, it's like Joker has been reading the comments of us grumpy football die-hards, as he specifically mentioned Cassity being able to effectively recruit Florida and Ohio.

Joker has talked about how he wants to get into Ohio but never had anyone with the connection.....now he has one. Also, he's talked about getting into Florida a little bit more. Great hire.

    dustarm20

  • Glad he supposedly has recruiting ties to Florida. More evidence today that there are high 3 star and 4 star prospects down there willing to look past bigger name programs and play in the state of KY. Somebody will eventually catch on to that fact at UK with the right hire. Maybe Cassity is that guy. We'll find out soon.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • never had anyone with connections to Ohio? you mean someone who was head coach of the college located in Cincy for about 10 years, someone like that?

Great news... I hope Tommy Limbaugh reads this, so he can send out a "happy" tweet. To him, DA and others... this news actually came out on a day when our basketball team was playing. I can't believe our sports writers would stoop so low... I think I should be PO'ed about it.
