UK releases non-conference schedule

Defending national champion Kentucky has released its non-conference schedule for the 2012-13 basketball season. Maryland, Duke, Notre Dame and Louisville highlight.

  • Rupp schedule certainly leaves something to be desired but definitely can't complain about an OOC that includes Maryland, Duke, Notre Dame, Baylor and Louisville.

You won't find five other teams in the country with a better NC schedule overall.

  • I think fans will be very forgiving of the Rupp NC schedule this year since there is a new banner hanging in the rafters, but it's got to get better in the future.

  • Some Twitter reax...

TCPMattMay: Interesting scheduling quirk for Kentucky: The Wildcats play just one weekday game the entire month of December. Five Saturday games.

wildcatnews: I understand need to schedule soft in certain areas of non-conference & UL/Duke are away, but Rupp Arena schedule may be all-time worst.

keithtaylor21: 5 UK non-conf opponents at Rupp had losing records last year: Laf. 13-18, Samford 12-19, Portland 7-24, Lipscomb 13-18 and E. Mich. 14-18

JonKyForward: UK plays the day before and the day after Thanksgiving at Rupp. Wonder how that affects fans' holiday travel plans.

For Oscar to say that is definitely saying something. He's seen his share of home slates.

  • At least with Cal we know we're going to sweep the home OOC schedule. BCG may have dropped one or two of them....it's OK to bring up BCG again isn't it? I mean we just won a title and all. lol

  • At least the home win streak will continue for awhile longer. The OOC schedule I can't complain about but outside of Baylor the games at Rupp should all be blowouts. But after losing pretty much 6 starters I think we sorta need a schedule like this to get everyone gelling before SEC play starts.

That is true. I think he has a plan that makes sense. As a fan of good games, though, I just wish we had something as good as UK-UNC coming to Rupp next season.

  • I am going to miss having UNC on our schedule. I think it is a natural. However, I do like this schedule. Go Cats!!

Agree. Our Rupp schedule definitely leaves a lot to be desired, but this may be the one year we really need a soft one to get us gelling before we start conference play.

    TRUST IN CAL!

I wish nothing more than that we could get a series started with duke, would love to see them come to rupp while cal and coach k are still here

  • at least North Carolina coming back soon. Plus, maybe Missouri coming to Rupp (whenever that happens) will help the home slate.

    Darrell Bird

  • When is the Baylor game?

    zcats

  • Tough games early. Not for the faint of heart.

  • I doubt we ever see marquee games played much in Rupp. The landscape has changed. Those are typically made-for-TV match-ups in interesting locations.

  • I just wanted to note that for ALL of the KY BBALL passion in this Great Commonwealth.......I find it UNSUPRISING that this topic has only garnered 18 posts in almost 36 hours since inception.

--Theory, maybe the posters of this most-awesome website (and the call-in shows) don't CARE about the home schedule because we can so rarely afford to be there?

--The people (You know, the Beautiful People, the ones at the cocktail parties, luncheons, fundraisers, auctions, meet-&-greets, etc.) that are REALLY bitching are the ones with season tickets.

--For the rest of us, everygame (other than bragging rights and scoreboard) looks pretty much the same on TV.

Just my take on the topic.

  • I believe it is a solid non-conference schedule. I doubt that many top 10 programs will include the likes of Maryland and Duke on neutral courts, Notre Dame and Louisville on the road, and Baylor as 5 of the 13 non-conference games. Marshall is no slouch, and last season finished stronger than 7 of the 12 SEC teams. The other 7 non-conference games, in my opinion, are cupcakes. Last season’s non-conference schedule included 8 to 10 legitimate “cupcakes”

Yes, IU, Kansas, and UNC are not there, but Duke, @Notre Dame, Maryland, Baylor, and Missouri are there.

The SEC schedule is stronger with the addition of TAMU and Missouri.

Overall, I believe this schedule is a little stronger, top to bottom, than last year’s.

Some are disappointed that the annual freedom hall game is missing, but this is all about venue and exposure, and the Louisville game has not been providing the fan support with attendance for several years. The Rupp faithful are feeling disappointed that they only get Baylor, but they get 9 SEC games this year, and one of those will be either Missouri or TAMU.
