UK's Towles follows Votto's lead

Cincinnati Reds fans aren’t the only ones who might benefit from Joey Votto. Turns out his approach to the game might benefit Kentucky football, too.

  • This kid has the mentality to be a dominant football player. Its hard to explain when you see "it" what "it" is but Towles has got "it."

  • Go Redlegs!!!

  • "It" has a lot to do with genetic make up. This young man has Hall Of Fame genes and a serious support group/family. All the praise from media and coaches (former and present) have to tell a lot about Towles. Should be a star for UK and in life.

  • If you don't get excited about this interview then you are not a football fan of any kind.
This young man is going to be special and the sooner he is ready for the field the better UK football will be.
    Go Cats!
    cheers

  • Amazing that he threw more INTs in his first practice than he did in a full high school season. Just goes to show you how big of a leap it is from high school to college QB. Even for the very best.

  • Not sure I would agree that it was as much the big leap as it was perhaps a lack of familiarity with the offense and the receivers, which I'm sure will change significantly over the next few weeks. When he rolled out of the pocket yesterday he was pretty good and showed what an arm he really has.

One practice under the scenario yesterday shouldn't make or break anyone's career. I believe its pretty wide open from the standpoint of a starter. I think Newton, Towles and Smith will all play the position at some point this year.

I'm just saying in general, I think playing quarterback at the major college level as a true freshman is one of the tallest orders in sports. Just really hard to do effectively as a true freshman.
