UL board..?

I'm from Louisville and have plenty of friends that are UofL fans and I've heard and seen them refer to him as Cholly.

Not a big deal and certainly not racist.

Chris, it just comes off as sounding insulting to me. I have respect for Charlie Strong and Joker Phillips and call them by their given names. That's all.

Of course it would sound insulting to a uofl troll who spends their time trying to pick fights on their rivals board.

  • If we are gonna pull off this upset on the road, regardless of all the X's and O's and game planning, we have got to come out like men on fire and get the lead and set the tone by bringing the physicality to UL right off the bat. Obviously I am not advocating game changing, or drive stopping penalties, but I would not mind seeing them send a message early to Bridgewater, might be worth the 15 yards (not saying body slam the guy after the play and get ejected, or go after knees, lol... I think you get my point). At the very least, we need to make the game boring early. Most certainly we cannot get behind and become scared and tight with UL flying all over the place with a lead. If we avoid that, it could be a bruiser, and we got a shot!!!!

Uk doesn't need uofl. When uofl loses bcs status and uk continues to improve you guys will be an afterthought. When uk was ranked in the top ten a few years back and uofl was awful uk got a ton of national attention including game day. Uofl needs uk... Uk doesn't need uofl.

Oh really? Right now UK needs UofL more for ticket sales alone. Check out your attendance for all games last year. You also get a bump up in season ticket sales on the years that Louisville plays at CWS. Meanwhile, UofL averaged around 95% or more of capacity last year.

When UofL loses Bcs status after 2014 so do you guys and everyone else. I dont see your point there?

    2011- UL average attendance 48,538 Capacity 55,000 88.3%

You can thank UofL for last year to get you up to the 88%. Wasn't that your highest attended game last year? I also recall a game you guys had about 15,000 in the stands but ol Mitch fudged the numbers and said it was like 48,000 or something crazy and even you guys laughed at the announced total as not accurate.

Meanwhile, UofL was expecting a horrible year, started out like 2-4 and in a year with no wvu or uk so the fact we averaged capacity wise what you guys did speaks volume. What do you think you guys would average with the crap schedule we have?

This year, UofL sold more season tickets than uk and its not even close. Uk returned tickets to UofL, something that we never have had to do even in the kragthorpe debacle. This year could be the first that UofL has led the per game avg. The fact is, in all of this is traditionally, both programs are similar and both programs get equal benefits of playing each other.

  • Please don't start on fudging numbers. Jurich and UL are the masters of that. And you can think UK in 2010 when there was a sea of blue at PJS

Thanks for stopping by alan, you bring up some interesting points.....

The UL game was the highest attended game, edging out FLA by 2,500. The Jax St. game was 54,028 (the low game total, 80%), I assume that is the game you are referring to, but all these numbers are directly from the NCAA website. I was only pointing out that we still had better attendance in a down year, and that you were inaccurate in claiming UL had 95%.

I have no idea what we would average if we played the weak schedule you are asking about, but I know we would never expect a horrible year with that schedule lol.

I agree both programs benefit, but I am not sold we benefit more. Given the fact that we could replace UL with a less pressure packed game, I think the rivalry just strengthens our already brutal schedule, and in no way benefits us as far as that is concerned. If we played another bunny squad, who knows, maybe overall attendance would improve due to starting 3-0 or 4-0 each year, and having bowl hopes longer each year, just putting it out there?? BTW, I am in no way saying we should not play!! I will refrain from discussing attendance until the season is over and the numbers are in, too early to say with 100% certainty.

No, that is not all. Saying that calling Charlie Strong as "Cholly" is disrespectful is not what was stated. This was stated regarding referring to Charlie Strong as "Cholly":

    FootballFan1st said...

Pretty sad you refer to UofL's black head coach as Cholly. Plus if you look at their strength of schedule UK is ranked 9th. That doesn't boad well for UK. I have said repeatedly, we need to build both of our programs up in this state if we are ever going to get any respect nationally. Take it for what it's worth, the national media see's a picture of both programs that is not hidden behind opposing fans blinders.
    ****

Put in that context, you are accusing someone of making racist remarks. It is one thing to accuse a fan of one program of being disrespectful when referring to another team's coach, but it is quite another to phrase that accusation in a manner like the quote placed within the asterisks (racism), Saying it is simply in regard to someone being disrespectful is is simply not true. It is far more than that.

I just have to call the BS out for what it is.

  • Only thing that I can think of is that CBS knows what kind of talent that Clint Hurt has stolen from Miami and that Louisville has the horses to beat people down with their studs. Everything else makes them look like a mediocre team, but they will win a lot of games with the piss poor schedule that they play.

Yep......early in the season, breaking in a bunch of freshman. You conveniently don't mention those two teams were bowl teams also.

I watched them get beat by a mid-tier ACC team in their Bowl game at the END of the year. Including Harris, U of L has lost 4 of their top 6 receivers, top rusher, top tackler, #1 in interceptions, and place kicker from last year, but I guess their backups were all better anyway, right? Look, I think U of L could be a good team this year, but the talk that there is a HUGE gap between the 2 teams is crazy. Personally I LOVE all the disrespect and think it's not doing U of L any favors. The pressure is definitely on U of L this year. Can the young Cards team handle the pressure if UK goes up early on 9/2? I personally can't wait.

That mid-tier acc team whipped the acc champions 37-13. They could only beat a freshman dominated Louisville squad in their home state by 7. How many freshman dominated football squads can claim a bowl victory?

Yet you guys don't understand why Louisville is getting the rankings they are???

I think #25-30 is about right. Its still an incredibly young team that is trying to backfill with some depth. I like where we are and the direction of the program.

Not sure what planet you live on but louisville lost several senior starters on both sides of the ball including your top
Four receivers, top rusher and top db's.

Ps: the acc sucked last year. Just like the big east.

I have never heard a UofL fan refer to him as Cholly. Only on UK boards have I ever seen this reference and it's pretty sad in todays world. As far as UK's ranking on UofL's schedule, it came from one of the other websites. I hope both teams have winning seasons it only helps both programs moving forward.

Dude, you need to get out more, plus it would be nice to keep that race card inside your head on a sports website. It really sounds like sour grapes to me.

We can play that game all night. Last year UK beat UT, who beat Cincinnati 45-23, who beat U of L 25-16. Does any of that mean anything? Probably not. And the ACC was awful last year, worse than the Big East. Did you see the Orange Bowl game?? Wow.

No reason for you all not to be excited about your young team, we just think it's funny how big a disparity most UL fans think is between the 2 teams. We have young talent too...it's our Senior class that hurt us a bit. We are loaded at Fr and Soph and the class coming in next year is looking great.
I think we'll see a very entertaining game on Sept 2nd.

That has been my view about football and basketball for several years. It has been and will always be a one sided "rivalry" UK has nothing to gain, and everything to lose from it.

Here is what I keep coming back to when I see the predictions from UL fans. Their team is ranked this year and are being touted as two TD favorites against UK on the strength of their record last year and an off-season of improvement of their young players.

I have no doubt their young players improved from last season but what would have been UL's record last season if they had played UK's schedule? Along with the game at UK their schedule would have been:

    N WKU
    H C.Mich
    A UK
    H Florida
    A LSU
    A SCar
    BYE
    H Jacksonville St.
    H MS. St.
    H Ole Miss
    A Vandy
    A Georgia
    H Tennessee

I see best-case of 6-6 with losses to UF, LSU, SC,UGA, MSU, and a 1-1 split with UT and VU but that is best-case. Being realistic 5-7 is most likely and that is assuming they avoid an upset by WKU or CMU during the Cards early season woes.

The "experts" would not even consider ranking a 5-7 Card team that suffered the loss of production on offense that UL has after last season. That in a nutshell is how a weak schedule can be beneficial. Would UL be favored pre-season in every game this year if they played UK's schedule? Absolutely not. And again nobody would even consider ranking UL while only.being favored in 5 or 6 games.

Take a look at their schedule...pitiful. Anything less that 10 wins should get Cholly on the hot seat. Their record will be a top 15 type record, but most knowledgeable fans know that they are not a top 15 team talent wise. And you'll see that should they make a BCS bowl. Right now, you have some wise guys in the media trying to seem smart by predicting a great year for them, but reality is their gaudy record will be a result of a pathetic schedule.

On 9/2 we're going to give them all they can handle.

Absolutely correct. If they don't go 10-2 or 9-3, then CHOLLY Strong did a horrible coaching job. They are the best team in the worst BCS conference. So after they win the Big Least all December the ESPN bowl preview shows when their game is brought up the analysts will say with much disgust, "why do we have to talk about this team and this bowl again?" before getting on to matchups involving REAL teams from REAL conferences.

Hopefully all the media love makes their young team feel entitled and have not been working hard enough, and the poor reviews our team has for the season has made them fired up to prove all the doubters in the media and fanbase wrong.

  • So much bitterness in this thread. Why are you all so mad? Is it the lack of respect the media is giving you? What did you expect? Sorry guys, we were the second youngest team in division I football last season. Losing to two bowl teams like FIU and Marshall with Mike Sanford calling the plays and an injured O line should have been expected. By season end we beat WVU on their field. Healthy team + new OC + maturity = bad news for you.

And everybody knows uk counts tickets sold and not butts in seats. Curious to see those numbers after Sept. 2nd.

  • Btw, not saying we would beat Alabama, but we heard the EXACT same comments in the 91 Fiesta Bowl. It took you guys 80 years to beat Alabama once. Took us 4 tries and we destroyed them. I will be extremely surprised if you guys stay within 17 points of us. Newton ran for his life last season against an experienced O line that Uk fans built up to be the Packers front. Our freshmen walked right through it. Now you have freshmen on the line? lol I will pray for your QB. Now I see why Joker isnt naming a starter....they are probably fighting over who DOESNT want to start.
