I came here to discuss the football game and the players that will be on the field sunday. With the weather trending towards heavy rain looks like it will be closer game then vegas thinks.

I don't really want to comment about UK's baskball recruiting but I guess I will. Do I think UK cheats? NO. If Phil Night and William Wesly were recruiting players for my team would I be mad? NO. Do I think the first person Anthony Davis ran up to and huged after the NT game should have been Phil Night, another Nike exec, and World Wide Wes instead of his mom and dad? NO. But it obviously show how players like MKG, Wall, Davis, Cousins, and so on end up playing for Cal. Cal went to 4 strait NIT's in CUSA before William Wesly brought him Wagner. Has Cal won less than 30 games since Nike and WWW started feeding him 5 of the top 30 players in the nation every year? NO UK will be down this year from their standards in basketball but will have the Harrisons, Wiggins, and possibly Randel coming in in 2013 and I fully expect another title with those 4 playing together. maybe we can win one in between.

It was a long ride home from NOLA after watching our team take 20 more shot attempts then our rival in the final 4 and LOSE.

    Now back to football......

Can we stop talking about basketball 4 days away from the first football game?

Maybe make a new thread for basketball smack so I don't have to hear about it in what became the football smack thread?

  • I agree... Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Uofl will rush for over 200 yards Sunday in a rain soaked game. Only way uk wins or keeps it close is if they have a +2 turnover margin. Book it!!!

No chance you all pound us on the ground after doing it last year. Our guys won't let it happen twice in a row. Our LB's are better than you realize and our DLine should be the strength of the team. I'll say it once again and I can't wait for it to ring true in your ear sunday. WE ARE BETTER THAN YOU GUYS THINK WE ARE AND YOU ARE NOT AS GOOD AS YOU GUYS THINK YOU ARE PERIFREAKINOD(LOL). I'm done with this thread.

If it is pouring down rain I will be even more confident of a win than I already was. Especially after last season and who you lost on defense. IMO Uk's ONLY chance is through the air...and rain will greatly affect that aspect. Louisville completely dominated the ground game and was solid all year against the run. Not only that but I can say with certainty that Bridgewater will be a bit more nimble on his feet than Smith will. With that said I hope the rain gets out early because I want an air raid to go along with the run attack. Still sticking with 28-10 Cards. Last years game seem to keep playing into Uk's hands and we still won. Scott Radcliffs dropped TD pass in the endzone that would have sealed the game without question. Your punters Academy Award winning acting job, when the replay showed our guys didnt even touch him. Louisville would have had the ball around Uk's 40 yard line but a personal foul was called. The blown whistle from the stands that killed another long play. The no call intentional grounding in the endzone that should have been another 2 points and possession. Just to name a few....

Some things actually go our way and its a rout. It's been beaten to death now. Im just ready to strap em up and see what happens.

  • I think UK's defensive line will be the strength of the team, but I didn't realize until today the 3 main guys you all talk about (Cobble, Rumph, and Ukwu) only combined for 4 1/2 sacks last year. I think Rancifer is the LB you guys talk about? Don't know about him, know he flashed at times to end the year.

I personally am not quite as nervous after hearing that, but I think you guys are excited about them for the same reason we're excited about our team. Young guys that have shown the ability to produce.

I honestly don't think UK will be able to generate enough pressure consistently to really bother UofL. I think you'll get some hits in, but I don't know if the depth is there to keep it up through 4 quarters.

If the Cats can keep it close into the 4th I'll probably be nervous, but I see the Cards pulling away in the 2nd half.

Yeah... seems like I've heard all of this BS before. Ask Dave Ragone how his undefeated season turned out. I remember all the smoke they were polluting the air with (and blowing up their fans asses)... and all the hype about them going undefeated (with a much tougher schedule than they have this year). From what I remember, it didn't turn out so well... the underdogs from Lexington spoiled that season in week #1. Our Big Blue Defense made a Bobble-Head Doll out of Dave Ragone... and upset the Cards on their home turf.

WE WILL DO IT AGAIN THIS YEAR!!! GO BIG BLUE!!! cheers

Hmmmm, I don't remember that being the 1st game of the year... for Louisville, that year (2002).
In fact...Cards broke in an almost entirely new offensiveline... Ragone ran for his life... that night. Of course, he was also sick with a stomach virus that game as well...

UK defense chased him all over the field... and yet, Cards had the ball, with time on the clock, and the ability to win...

    phenderson

  • That was the first game of the year that year. That was also a year for offensive line troubles, breaking in a lot of new guys. That's the biggest problem you can have on offense is a new offensive line, especially if a lot of your new guys are freshmen, they just don't get it yet.

I'm very pleased with Louisville's offensive line headed into Sunday. They came a long quite well last year, even if it was bumpy at the start.

  • Regarding UL's baseball sweep of UK this year. You realize those were midweek games and UK did NOT use their 3 best pitchers because we were saving them for the weekend games where we actually play in the SEC and were fighting to win the conference championship.

You guys didn't have to battle the likes of the SEC and were able to use a better pitching unit against us as we had to save for:
Final Baseball America poll. The SEC had #2 SCAR, #3 UF, #6 Ark, #9 LSU, #19TAMU*, #20 UK, #22 Miss St #28 Vandy

You had the mighty.... Big Least #15 St. Johns

The big problem UK has is depth in the front 4. Their staters are as good or better at 3 of the 4 positions but their depth isn't even close. We are 9 deep in the front 4. Butler and Brooks aren't even listed in the 2 deep and started last year. You will see it in the 4th qtr sunday. If UK's defense couldn't take advantage of our youth and injurys on the oline last year I don't see how anyone would think that they will this year with Benivedes and Miller back and all the other players with a full year of experience.....

It was a close match but UK lost after you called for a beat down. I also understand that UK didn't throw their best pitchers at our young baseball team last year but 22-2 in 2 games..... That is beat down material for sure. I expect a similar score in the football game.

Somebody can be wrong every once in a while. Just like you dirtybirds chirped twice in basketball season on how you would beat UK.

Player #2 is BJ Butler who is sulking because he is now running with the 3rd team dline. Just goes to show you how much better the team is and how much deeper we are. Butler played all game against Uk last season and registered 4 tackles and 1.5 sacks....now he's a water boy. Eli Rogers led the team in receptions last season and now he's riding pine. Cant wait to see this board about 8 pm Sunday night. Talk about massive meltdowns. The rumors of canceling the series will be flying everywhere.

that doesn't mean much of anything. We have a young DL that played alot last year that is running with the 3rd team as well in Christian Coleman, played well as a true freshman last year but has let off the gas and has been passed up. BJ Butler is a good player and will see the field. The players that passed him were there last year, they just didn't stop working. Think the situation may be the same with Butler IMO.

No way the Cards are deeper on the d-line than UK. You only have 6 players in the front 4 with any game experience. You're counting 3 true Frosh that have never taken a college snap in that daunted 9 deep you reference. More importantly, you only have 3 interior lineman with any experience. There's nothing but Frosh listed behind Philon, Dunn, and Brooks. UK, at least, has 6 players that have taken snaps as interior d-linemen. Granted, the quality drops off after Cobble, Rumph, and Coleman (though I would not be surprised to see Douglas surprise a few folks this year.)

UK's d-line will fair much better against the Cards this year. Cobble and Rumph are healthy and in much better shape. One or both of those two will demand double teams, freeing up Ukwu, DuPree and assortment of others to get pressure on Bridgewater, and clogging up the middle, limiting the Card's running game.

I think the Card's o-line will be improved, as well, but I like Cobble and company in this matchup. Go Cats!

I got that number straight from the media guide so blame it. Where did you see 25-24? Irregardless, I could care less about volleyball. Just thought it was funny how the boomerang smack nailed you.

I agree and also think Eli will see the field plenty. He has always been Teddy's go to man. Radcliff just played so well in the spring game you just have to give him a shot. Im sure he wants that dropped TD pass back from last season that would have sealed it. Gotta cheer for the Trinity walk ons to succeed though. Thats why you wont hear me razz Uk for playing a former walkon at RB. CoShik Williams is a hell of an athlete. Its the walk ons that have the biggest hearts. Always been a fan of the type.

I just went to check out the predictions on the UL board (my first visit to that site), and noticed a link they had posted from CBS Sports predicting them to be in the Sugar Bowl v. Alabama..? WTF..... And they are ranked 25th, and favored by 15 against us!! What am I missing, is Louisville legitimately going to be that much of a juggernaut this year.... I guess I have not done enough research, but I like our chances in the game. All the predicitons over there are ridiculous blowouts. I guess my question is, will be a monumental upset to win this game as far as UK is concerned?

Well, I guess after 22 pages of responses, I got my answer.... confused

You have my word. Win or lose...I'll be here. Im not concerned in the least. I put Uk's chances at about 15 %. Anyway...straight from the 2011 media guide. We all know how uk likes to fudge numbers to save face. They just cant fathom the thought of trailing any school in any series before canceling it.panic

So your baseball coach intentionally went weak against your state rival which gave you the loss huh? Got it! Boy I learn something every day. But you guys are UK and SEC. Shouldn't your "weekday" pitchers be the equivelant or better than our weekend pitchers?.....in my sarcastic tone. ;)
