UL fans

  • I can honestly say that one thing I have enjoyed throughout this proces, the past 2 months with Coach Stoops, is that UL fans are acting as if they now care about recruiting. I live in Louisville, am around UL fans litereally everyday. I will say, they deserve the credit they got for this past season but one thing I have NEVER heard them talk about, other than landing Teddy B, is recruiting. But since Stoops has been killing it, they are now wanting to openly talk about their recruits. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy another part of the rivarly, but I find it entertaining that they seem to always be a step behind, as fans.

Also, they are acting like they could care less about Hatcher and Timmons. I have had numerous UL fans tell me they don't need either of these two. Hilarious to me.

  • They don't have a chance with Timmons. Sort of like we didn't have a chance at Quick.

  • Their class would be pitiful without Quick. They haven't reaped the benefits of the Sugar Bowl like I thought they would.

    bigbluerules

  • Not at all. I'm surprised as well. Not just the Sugar Bowl either. Going to the ACC and Strong signing the big contract.

    tWhit

  • Clint Hurtt being reined in has hurt them quite a bit IMO. They've actually recruited worse each year since Strong has gotten there because the Miami scandal came out and Hurtt couldn't be let loose to 'do what he does'.

Because he never would have considered them.

  • Exactly. They didn't want to wast their time.

    tWhit

  • So I assume when Strong said he was going to own the state, he meant only recruit the kids he has a chance to get? Stoops goes after everyone...even if its a Long shot. A la Kyle Bolin. It may be more of a joust but either way...that's following through with what you say you are going to do.

    Bigblue36

  • I'm not going to openly mock their recruiting efforts until Signing Day is officially over (they're in the final 2 of 4 big time Florida players). But you guys are right, as of today, they've haven't leveraged any of their on field success into recruiting wins. Very surprising IMO.

  • We need to wait on our "Chest Bumping" till the ink meets the paper.....however, I expect tomorrow to be an epic day for our University of Kentucky Wildcats! cheers

  • THats what getting into hot water withy the NCAA will do for you. All the props in the world to Charlie Strong...being a 100% die hard Cat fan makes it tough for me to say: but trong is the best coach in the ACC..and was in the Big East by far. Hes a tough nosed..defensive minded coach with fire and something to prove. I would have loved to have CS as our HC had we not got Stoops.
That said..I try to disllike the 'Tards amap (as much as possible) .

  • What position does R. Timmons play? WR. U of L is deep at the position. Getting J. Quick and having 11 returning WR makes little sense to go after another WR when there are better coming from Florida the following year.

    Hermits have no peer pressure.

We'll see if you still think that way when Teddy leaves. I have my doubts.. Thats all I'm gonna say.

Strong is not in the same league as Beamer and Fischer when it comes to recruiting and coaching. Not even close.

Do you really think Florida NEEDS receivers right now? If you think that UL is so deep at receiver that they don't need a kid who has legit 4.4 speed and is IN THE STATE...you are being misguided. I'll give them props for landing Quick but there was a lot more that factored in to his decision other than just wanting to play for UL.

Take a look at the top 5 recruits in the state

    Quick - UL
Hatcher - undecided (but UL didnt push for him much)
Bivins - ND (UL didnt make a push)
Timmons - undecided as of now...hopefully the CATS! (UL didnt mkae a push)
    Bolin - UL

Out of the 5, UL landed 2. They didnt make a big push for 3. Stoops...he's been here for 2 months and talked offered 4 of them. My point is this, if you are going to say, "We will own this state in recruiting", you go after the top players in the state, regardless of what you "need".

And I'm not chest bumping at all. We may not get any of the top 5. But at least Stoops went after them. He didn't back down from any of them.

Exactly, I heard that after the Sugar Bowl win; their coaches ripped up their recruiting lists and told someone that they will have a whole new set of recruits. Assuming that this is true they must have missed out on quite a few guys. Without Quick their ratings would drop off the table. I am shocked/excited that this has happened and UK is quietly climbing up the ladder with certain 4* recruits and now we are in the hunt for Timmons, Hatcher, and Lawson. This year could be a big step forward for the program.

    BigBlueMook

  • Actually if you look at their player rating average they have a higher one than us, for now. They don't have a bad class, it will just depend on how they finish. You would think they would be in on more high level guys with what they did to Florida, but it doesn't seem to be that way. I just want to see us finish with above an 85 average, that would mean we finished with real strong recruits.

Cards have a higher per average rating than any other year Strong has been at Louisville. They'll only sign 16-17 players because of limited schollys. Maybe you should do a little homework before you post something. What do you think there?

I think you are on the wrong board and need to go home. Crying there stops the embarrassment that you are now enduring.

Take James Hurt out of the equation and then what is there average rating? Thats what I thought. Plus De'Asian Richardson is likely not gonna make it. Ouch!!

Depends on which site you use for your team rankings.

I think they were talking about 2014. They only have a small number of scholarships left to hand out in a small 2013 class. In year 4 under Strong, UofL does not have the luxury anymore that Stoops has in selling early playing time since the majority of their returning two deep roster is made up of Sophomores and Juniors. They are filling in needs with this class.

What Coach Stoops is doing this year is really no different than what Strong did with his first class. The difference, UK has the SEC to sell and immediate playing time. For the 2014 class, UofL will have a full class to recruit along with this years Sugar Bowl to sell to recruits this whole off season and next season if all goes as planned, they will be in another BCS game and getting ready to enter the ACC.

As a UK football fan, you should be excited. Those of you who are long suffering, I hope it all works out in a similar fashion for you as well.

Blah, blah, blah. Your boys just beat Florida like a rented mule and yet you have fewer high quality recruits from out of Florida than you had in Strongs first year there. . They SHOULD be recruiting at a much higher level. They're not though because they're not getting to use any of Hurtts' usual tricks anymore. He has too much heat on him now.

Don't worry. When it's all said and done it'll be like Teddy and Clint and Charlie were all never even there. At least that's what the record books will say.
