UL football is impressive...

  • Give Louisville credit. They had a great game plan, played well and won the game.

But I've always been convinced that 90 percent of bowl outcomes are determined by motivation. Which team wants to be there and which team doesn't.

Clearly, Florida, who I felt was a far superior team, did not want to be there.

  • Looking ahead to next year, the Cards should be very, very good once again.

Bridgewater is something else. Amazing quarterback.

Next year was always the year Charlie and Co. were preparing for to make their run. They were a year ahead of schedule based on Bridgewater's maturation. Next year will be more of the same, especially since their schedule will be even EASIER. Boise State is now removed from their schedule.

Yep. Insanely easy schedule next season.

  • Perhaps Hoptown and Don should read more about what Coach Mustchamp thinks than simply "assuming" they understand football. Perhaps reading the Gators quotes about the quality of the opponent would be more to your liking.

Coach Mustchamp sure did not take it easy on the preparation - he stated as much. But if you 2 know more than the rest of us, I want to know the next big stock to buy.

Florida plays uk every year and has had 23 classes that have never lost to them - 26 staright games. Do you think Florida comes into that game concerned about losing? That would be understandable.

Louisville smacks an SEC big dog - and the big dog just didn't want to be there!?! Coach Mustchamp called trick plays, on-side kicks, players physically fighting (enough that one gets tossed for throwing a punch) and because one announcer makes a statement everyone takes it to heart.

Louisville beat the 2nd best SEC team. No qualification, justification, excuse will change it. The only place UF outplayed Louisville was on special teams.

Sleep easy if it helps you by thinking UF didn't care. They care so little they have several threads, several pages long about how little they care. Irony me thinks!!!

Not in the least "clearly". What was clear, was Florida scratched clawed and fought when the realized Louisville was there to win.

Why did FSU not lay a goose egg against NIU? Why not Standford against Wisconsin? The current KSU/Oregon game is tough battle.

No other bowl game is being played with a "disinterested" favorite except for the rival. Why is that? Perhaps Louisville simply made Florida look bad. Perhaps it was a bad matchup.

Coach Mustchamp was hot and angry during the game and no answers for Coach Strong. The Florida players were hitting hard and trying to intimidate. Those are not the actions of disinterested players/coaches.

"Oh, I'm going to go to the UK board to see what they have to say about it."

You skipped the part where I said Louisville had a great game plan and played great and deserved to win the game.

Dude ... just enjoy the win.

  • I watched the game last night from beginning to end, and let me tell you this, Louisville played like a team last night that was ashamed and embarrassed at the way they finished the season with L's to UConn and Syracuse and a close win against Rutgers. They showed it last night from the opening kickoff that they were out to prove that those last 3 games were not what they were about. They thoroughly outplayed Florida in every aspect of the game, and it showed on the scoreboard. Teddy Bridgewater is the real deal, and will be hyped for the Heisman next year, and believe he will put up the numbers to warrant it, but won't play anybody to show his skills off. Louisville earned the win, and score was closer than the game really was, completely one-sided
To Louisville and their players and coaches, I give a clap

Sure am. Seems to be a hot topic on the uk board. If the mod nazi's only want a uk slant just say so and I will leave the discussion alone. But if you are wanting to ACTUALLY discuss, we can that as well.

You said "CLEARLY, Florida ws disinterested". Based on what - what C. Speilman said? If announcers were always right they would not be former coaches or potential coaches.

Show where in Florida's actions they were disinterested.

    BIRDSEAT

  • Florida came out disinterested. They came out flat. That much was clear. Once they got smacked in the mouth then they decided to play. It was too late.

He also skipped the part if Brent Pease is the OC his team has a real shot at losing. Man how you can be that bad with the talent he has is amazing.

Sure you do. Otherwise you have the same 3 or 4 morons running around and a bunch of lemmings following saying "uhh-huuhh".

You say flat, Louisville caused much of that reaction. Still looking for any direct information by any Florida player/coach that says they did not take the game seriously. Thirty plus other bowl games and every team played hard except for Louisville's opponent.

    Reaching for straws.

Did the Louisville coaches or players come out and say they didn't take the UCONN game seriously? Or was UCONN just the better team?

UCONN was the better team. Louisville could have finished up the BIG EAST by winning that game. There was incentive to win by Louisville.

UConn out played us. Teddy played hurt and almost brought us back, but it wasn't enough.

One thing not often mentioned is that we had several players return from injury for the Florida game. Preston Brown, the middle linebacker who had a monster game (14 tackles) was one. He missed much of the second half of the season.

  • "Disinterestedness" sure explains a ton of UK football wins, if you want to use that logic. In fact, it explains a big percentage of wins and losses in all of athletics. Probably explains several UK NCAA Championships too.

In our first bowl win over Clemson and the one over FSU I TOTALLY agree.

Regular season in the sec is a different story.

  • From a recruiting ranking standpoint, we've been neck and neck with Louisville each of the past 5 years. The difference is they've hit on just about all their highly rated prospects, whereas we've whiffed on just about all our highly rated prospects.

Here's our best high school prospects we've signed from 2009-2011:

    2009
    Ryan Mossakowski
    Morgan Newton
    Terrell Mitchell

    2010
    Alex Smith
    Elliot Porter
    Brandon Gainer
    Raymond Sanders
    Jerrell Priester
    Tim Patterson
    Joe Mansour

    2011
    Glenn Faulkner
    Darrian Miller
    Marcus Caffey
    Zach West

Of all these guys who were either 4-star prospects or borderline 4-star prospects, the only ones who have been SEC caliber are 2 guys from 2011, Darrian Miller and Zach West. Easily, the 3rd best player for us on this list is Raymond Sanders, who didn't contribute at all until this past season. After that there is a huge gap with the other guys having either left the program or having never seen the field.

Here's the best high school prospects Louisville's signed since from 2009-2011:

    2009
    Sean Farr (didn't qualify)

    2010
Michaelee Harris (missed each season with various knee injuries)
Dominique Brown (awesome RB, but redshirted this season due to injury; he will have a Michael Bush type season in 2013)
    De'Antre Rhodes (didn't qualify)
    Kamal Hogan (complete bust)
B.J. Butler (played great as a true freshmen, but was quickly recruited over)

    2011
Teddy Bridgewater (early 2013 Heisman favorite)
    Eli Rogers (great WR)
    Gerod Holliman (hasn't really played)
    Andrew Johnson (starting CB)
Charles Gaines Jr. (sidelined due to off-field issues)
DeVante Parker (awesome WR, would'be been a star at UK in 2013)
Bryant Dubose (like BJ Butler, played great as a true freshmen, but has since disappeared/been recruited over)
    Calvin Pryor (starting FS)
Jamon Brown (2-year starter at OT, decent player)

Louisville didn't have any success with their 2009 class (Kragthorpe's final class) and not much with their best recruits in the 2010 class, but they hit a lot of homeruns with their 2011 class. These guys were all the driving force behind them going to the Sugar Bowl and winning it. Also, like Petrino before him, Strong has had way more success than Joker had at finding and developing lesser recruited players. The days of us finding Jacob Tamme's, Jeremy Jarmon's, Trevard Lindley's, Garry Williams', Danny Trevathan's, and Wesley Woodyard's are long gone. Joker didn't find a single diamond in the rough player as head coach, despite signing the maximum number of recruits (although the jury is still out on our 2012 class, which looks promising).

Strongs recruits mostly come from Florida. Perhaps therein lies the difference?

Dubose was suspended for much of the season. BJ Butler was converted to HBack and had a great game against Florida.
