Uhmmm, Mitch, we have a problem......

  • Staggering numbers, folks.

Kentucky football ticket sales running well behind previous years | Football | Kentucky.com

Six weeks before Kentuckys football home opener, ticket sales are lagging considerably.

  • Also, why is Dewayne Peevy the guy UK sent to answer questions about football? Isn't he in a basketball only position?

    MinterWonderlnd

  • Welp. I guess we'll just shut the football program now. No need to play out this season even.

    MoC

  • Knock off UL and put an exciting product on the field despite W-L and fans will return.

Odds are the crowd will be just as loud as it was last year cause the ones who didn't renew are most likely less vocal at the field anyway. Good to see die-hards sticking with the players and coaches.

  • Beat uofl and we will have 50,000 season tickets. To act surprised about this is just silly.

  • First off, they restructured the AD back in March and Peevy was one of a handful that was bumped up to an Executive Associate Director of Athletics (even though Basketball is still his concentration). The guy is well spoken and handles the media very well. I have no problem what so ever with him addressing football, so I'm not even sure why it's an issue.

Second he also hits the nail on the head in regards to why ticket sales are down (and it's not just a singular issue as the OP has suggested in other threads/posts):

"It's a combination of the economy ... performance on the field and the television package offering another option for fans," Peevy said, noting that every UK game is on television now, which wasn't the case previously, and that some fans prefer to watch games from the comfort of their living rooms."

He clearly notes that performance on the field is part of it, which is something we knew going into this season. I don't know why there's shock over that and while it is a problem if it continues, I don't see any reason why UK can't remedy that with some wins on the field against guys like Louisville early on. Ticket sales have also been down across the conference, which has been addressed by other media guys at other school. So it's not an exclusive issue.

    The sky isn't falling yet.

  • I was expecting a 10%-15% drop off from last season. I don't think anyone was expecting a 27% decrease just from last season.

You were expecting it, and have been reminding all of us for way too long and in too many threads of how terrible all things UK football are. Thank you for your relentless dedication to getting your message across and for your contribution to the atmosphere of these message boards. If you are wanting to invest in football tickets that may make you truly happy, you should click the following link.

  • Go into the Pizza Pit and beath the Cards, then defeat Kent and WKU and a lot of folks that are angry or upset will return. Lose the opener and play lackluster games against KSU and WKU and things could get really ugly. One note on the ticket sales though. Several people I know didn't re-up this year, partly because of last season, but also partly because they didn't want to pay the higher prices when they can just walk up to the gate for most games and pay $5 or $10 for seats as good or better that the season tickets they relinquished.

    bluedynasty

  • I wonder how these figures compare with last season's figures at the same point in time? I think there will still be a significant decrease, which is disappointing, but I would like to compare final figures with final figures.

In any case, this is probably the poorest timing of any report ever. Four days after the #2 CB in the class and his highly regarded brother visit, one day before an ESPN 150 WR/DB shows up on campus. No doubt the plan was to try to sell them on UK's great "fan" support.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Those who chose to make a "statement" this season have absolutely no room to criticize the coaches for a poor recruiting class if that comes to pass. Two/three years from now, if our recruiting suffers, I hope every season ticket holder who chose this year not to renew acknowledges they were a part of the problem, rather than the solution.

  • To the OP, for once could you just shut the hell up and support the program rather than trying to tear it down? We'd be a lot better off.

    Thanks.

  • Don't worry about it Minter. You stated facts and posted a link. Yet its the fans fault we went 5-7. Its why we also have the 58th ranked recruiting class. You can't recruit with no fan support. Unless your Vanderbilt. Its always an excuse with the ssp4l. Never mind the fact we're predicted to go 3-9. Its the fans fault or Brooks anybody but joker really. 3 years from now it will be the fans fault if we still suck.

If only Joker Phillips hadn't taken this tradition rich and national championship caliber football program and run it into the ground after two seasons we'd be able to hire a "real coach". Also fire Mitch, throw it deep Jaruuuudd, etc, etc, etc....

  • 27% off is indeed a problem.

No two ways about it. No agenda here, this is unavoidable and needs immediate action by the AD.

Mitch was touted as a football wartime consigliere..... He's going to have to perform a public exorcism to stem the negative ju-ju.

    Bologna!

Alot of people want to point to bad classes in 2008 and 2009 for recent struggles. CWS was packed to the gills.....what excuse do we want to use there?

UK has some bad fans, all schools do. Look at season ticket sales all the years UK was < stellar. 68K have shown up for years for an inferior product. Did they get a ROI?

Let's not get on a high horse and blame fans for poor recruiting classes. Fans have been showing up for my 40+ years. How about UK win some games? How about the athletic department, president, BoT and the legislature help UK be successful. Alot of reasons for UK's past failures, the fans are not at the top of that list.

  • This is a reflection of how the fan base views where the program is headed based on what they see on the field and statements and actions of the AD. The UK fan base is legendary in supporting the football team through mostly lean times. Driving them away in these numbers is a huge accomplishment and unparalleled in my memory. I think Mitch has that Catspy all locked up for next year.

they've already taken immediate action... Did you not notice they are offering ticket packages? What more do you want him to do?

Joker is our coach and he will be our coach again next year despite the economy and poor season ticket sales. The only way he isn't is if the team implodes and we have a rash of injuries that cause us to get blown out in multiple games.

We have 6 coaches on our staff that are UK guys and love this program as much, if not more, than any of us. You should all pray and hope that this staff is able to win 6+ games this year cause this is a staff that by and large will stick around for some time if they are given time. The last 2 classes have been very good and we are looking at another solid class coming in. Too many of you can't see the trees for the forest.

That's blatantly false. Prior to brooks the season ticket sales were below this level. In reality we are in a relative uptick in uk football history. Bowls in 5/6 years and a 5 win season are still, relatively speaking, good for uk standards.

We MUST show progress this year. But the freak out by some fans is off base just as those acting as if everything is ok is off base.

To say the economy doesn't have something to do with this is stupid. To say the team being down isn't part of the reason is just as stupid. Add those two factors to the fact that our home schedule is awful = lower season ticket sales.

Bottom line? If we beat uofl we will see 5000 season season tickets sold in a week.

    hoptownukfan

  • Oh no I got the ignore button! You all might ignore me but you won't ignore 3-9. Maybe 2-8. I wouldn't count western a for sure win. Faaar Brooks no wait its those damn fans fault for not giving there full support. Oh snap it hard to get behind a losing product. Especially when u can watch it from home and not have to waist money. No worry though it'll be basketball season before long.

I don't care if the Athletics Department has to hold a friggin bake sale.

They need an SEC/Madison Avenue-level marketing campaign with well produced commercials, announce a ground-breaking of a football-only building, have UK jersey giveaways to kids under 12, have good bands open the stadium pre-game, and actually have a Fan Day Event that is worth going to.

Today I received an e-mail from UK to purchase a miniature official National Championship Guitar....WTF IS THAT?!?! They market the shit out of #8...why can't SOME OF THAT CASH be donated to market football.

I aint firin no one... You misread my post- I like our coaching staff, but right now the canoe is taking in water that no staff can fix. It is an institutional level problem that needs to be addressed like an SEC school should.

  • Couldn't agree more zcats. Fans see it coming no doubt. You know its bad when there's a billboard that says "keep the faith" or something like that before the season ever starts. Pathetic.
