Uhmmm, Mitch, we have a problem......

  • For the love of everything f**king Holy. If you people are so mad/pissed off/disappointed with the football team.. Do us all a favor and STFU already. It's old, played out, and INCESSANTLY IRRITATING. My God, I come here to get information about the football and basketball teams, and give an opinion once in a while. I DO NOT come here to listen to (i.e. read) senseless argument from 4th grade. "My idea is better than yours!! "No, Mine is better". Grow the fkcu up already people. Minter, Jeffries, your schtick is getting very old, and I'm almost convinced the only reason you do the crap you do (i.e. be notoriously negative, argumentative, etc) is to get a rise out of people, and for the attention it brings you. Jeffries, you admitted to "trolling" - If you have nothing else better to do, well, that's a sad state of affairs. /done.

Yes law dog I'm incompetent. Totally stupid. You probably go to work everyday at a law firm put in your hours and make good money. I made a mistake it happens. The funny thing is I'm 28 150k house paid for 3 cars paid for and I don't have a job. I bet sports and play poker for a living. Also have 2 kids college funds set up and paid for my wife's college education. Yeah totally stupid. Certainly no law dog or English professor but I have a lot of fun. Especially trolling all y'all on an internet message board. You people are funny how uptight u get when somebody disagrees with y'all. Before u say 150k is cheap for a house. Its all the room we need. Plus no payments are niiice.

And what does this have to do with anything man. People attack your idiotic opinions. Nobody is attacking your ability to make a living. So either stand up for your opinions or get lost. If you throw something stupid out just admit it and admit that you may be wrong. Obviously you feel like your opinions don't stack up when JDH smokes you. Then you bring up something like this post and think we don't see through your bullshit. Like a woman with this crap. You get into an argument with them, prove them wrong, then they go off crying and you're the one who has to say I'm sorry. lol.

And that is why I am growing tired of this site. Time to take out the trash.

In that, I mean getting rid of Minter.

    Staggering numbers, folks.

Just so you know... season ticket sales don't necessarily dictate fan outcome in CWS. It's possible that we'll see an even greater fan turnout this season... because there are many fans who will jump at the chance (week to week) to buy some seats they would rarely have a shot at. Many fans prefer to pay week to week... they can pick and choose what games they want to see and if they prefer better seats than usual, they will always be available on the internet.

All I'm saying is... don't let current ticket sales get you in such a hurry to gloat about your "I told you so" shit. By season's end... all of your negative predictions will
be proven wrong. That's my personal prediction.

I am going to chime in with my two cents. If you think the economy has nothing to do with this, then you are crazy. Yes the football team had a rough season and I am sure that some have not renewed for that reason, but this economy sucks and if you look around it is happening everywhere. I would love to get season tickets again but right now it is not economical for me and my family now. You can argue all you want about the coach, administration, etc.. but the bottom line is the economy. This is not big news and those using it for an agenda are just clueless. I am growing tired of some of the crap being spewed on these boards. If all you want to do is complain, then go somewhere else and bug another fan base.

Nothing to do with it, of course not. Likely the personal finances of some caused them to drop. But that isnt the bottom line cause for the majority who dropped this year IMO, a bad economy isnt new in 2012. The economy turned bad the end of 2008, it was bad in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and still high unemployment and low growth this year. IMO the majority who dropped is due to team performance, status of the program, and bleak future outlook.

The fans have sent their message, what is done is done. Time for Joker to prepare his team to surprise the fans and every national analyst who predicts he will have a losing season. And far Far FAR past time for Mitch Barnhart to be a responsible AD and come forth with his plans, his vision for UK football, and communicate them to the fans. Again, just my opinion, he is likely a bigger cause for disgruntled fans refusing to get season tickets and pay lavish K fund donations for his precious revenue-subtracting sports than Joker Phillips and the team.

I simply posted a link to a Lexington Herald Leader article. How the heck is that baiting?

Do you think the discussion in this thread would have been any different had anyone else posted a link to this story? Minter didnt write it after all, the Lexington Herald Leader did.

These numbers aren't a "little behind"... They are pitiful.

First off, this is a REAL new topic based on a current newspaper article that deserves discussion. It is not a "FAAAAAR_______" thread. If this topic were started by Chris, Matt or Jeff it would have gone an entirely different direction with civil discourse. What is stale with this particular message board is folks typecast posters and whack-a-mole each other.

    Now, onto the subject...

The shortfall on football revenue is going to be significant with the stadium's upper deck half full. This is where UKs administration loses sleep...when they lose money. Here on this message board, we (posters) lose sleep before big games and after losses. We care about one aspect, they care about the other. This was the death blow to the Bill Curry regime...when season ticket sales hit rock bottom. I was a season ticket holder in those days.

By breaking up ticket packages into 3-packs... That's a start. But you don't solve the root problem of failing ticket sales by selling tickets. (Mr Eskimo, I'll sell you tinier ice cubes because they're cheaper.) my post earlier had other suggestions, but got no consideration because there was a poster who had a typo to pounce on.

Once again, the UK administration and Athletics department HAVE to be creative and inject excitement, INVEST major revenue, reach out to the fanbase and reinvigorate the football program now.

The economy excuse is just that...an excuse. All things being equal, I doubt South Carolina ticket sales are off 30+%.

I point out that football programs are like ocean liners. They take a lot of engine power to move, but once out at sea they coast on little to no power in the direction set by the captain. In UKs case, PaPaw took to the wheelhouse, fired up the engine and left. Right now, with no certainty, can anyone point to what befalls us this season.

Money wise, during the Brooks era I believe the football program was neglected by UKs admin in terms of keeping up with the conference standards for facilities, revenues, marketing and on-field product. All the while the other sports were being built on the shoulder pads of the FB tv cash.

The real question is, how to fill the revenue shortfall that this article suggests? Can we have a BOT that will INVEST in a program that is losing money? Do they think that a new coach will stem this trend? OR Should they finally realize that it is an inherent cultural issue caused and propagated by their own action/inaction?

As stated- we are going to see something because of these numbers. It is unavoidable.

  • I still say there is something else behind all of this football/Joker/Barnhart hate that just doesn't make sense.

I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years now (and I did renew this year to start my 21st year) and in my 20 years UK has a average record of 4.9 wins to 6.9 losses per season. Last year was right on average and we put an end to a 25 year long losing streak, the year before that we were above average in record and ended both a 10 game & 17 game losing streak. I just don't see what all the fuss is over. Historically we are above average on our record but it looks as if the momentum has stalled. That is to be expected (to me at least). The next step will play its hand out over the next 2 years. Unless we go 3-8 or worse Joker will be back next year and season tickets will probably stay right where they are this year. Then next year if we start out slow an announcement will be made that we will go in a different direction at the end of the year (end of the 2013 year).

This season might suprise some people and then again it might go as the LOD say it will, but the problem is if we have to make a change at the end of the year I can guarantee you we have this same issue three years later....it's the nature of the beast with UK and SEC football.

  • Kentucky fans make Kentucky Athletics far less enjoyable than they should be.

I'm to the point where I'm actively rooting for the success of the football program and the head coach not because of any loyalty or ingrained devotion to the school or sport but I just want to see certain posters and fans be miserable. I suppose it's a lot like the current political climate in this country; it's not about doing things that are right or necessary but about scoring points and putting one over on the other guy.

  • Yes I post idiotic opinions. The funny thing is that ticket sales support my views. Nobody wants to support a loser.

MoC, you and I may not have agreed in the past, but this couldn't be any more spot on.

It's become impossible to criticize without being ostracized and impossible to support without being ridiculed. Someone like me, who has doubts about this season and high concern for the far-running consequences of another step back or failed season, might become defensive of the football team (not program, team) because of the constant cheap shots taken.

Minter posted this story, and while I believe it's probably demonstrable that he has a history of consistent negative contribution, he didn't write this story. Minter putting it on CP isn't nearly as negative as it being all over the local media during this important recruiting weekend.

Minter and JHB (on this site) might be more negative voices, but they are relatively reasonable compared to others. At this point, at least they aren't publicly circle-jerking about how awesome it is that the fans aren't going to support the players.

Why now though? Once again, Kentucky Football has always been a traditional moribund program. In fact, the last 6 years we've been above average and done things that the program has never done.

    I have my suspicions why.

I have no problem with differing opinions be they positive or negative. I have a problem with poorly constructed opinions or people who love to trumpet one factor or one bit of data and run online and say "See, look! I was right along!".

UK Football's problems are systemic and changing or altering one factor or variable will not solve or even change the equation all that much.
