Uncle Julius for UK Assistant Coach Next Year!

  • I know he's only had one season in Cal's system but he "gets it" more than anyone else from the standpoint of teamwork, work ethic, etc.. Definitely not the most gifted guy out there but he puts it all on the line every game. Put his heart in Alex's body and we've got an All-American!

"You can calm down a fool before you can resurrect a corpse", Coach John Thompson on why he'd draft DeMarcus Cousins despite question marks

Truly a great idea. Can be a grad assistant while he finishes up his master's. Would be invaluable IMO. +1

  • DO we not think Julius will go and make six figures in Europe for a year or three before he coaches? He's not NBA material but there's a pro job out there for him. He's ten times better than anyone playing for my local Saigon Heat if nothing else :P

    I dunno.

It might be more comforting to just go in coaching direction. You don't know how long Coach Cal will be at UK. Spending 3-5 years in Europe could mean by end of Coach Cal's tenure.

I actually think, it's a good opportunity to go straight to grad assistant.

  • If you can make 6 figures in Europe you do it. You can always come back and be a grad assistant later. Cal can always use his connects to get a guy that opportunity somewhere down the line. But you gotta make that money while you can.

  • If he can play pro ball anywhere he should jump at the opportunity. I would LOVE to see him on the coaching staff one day.

not really disagreeing, but 6 figures isn't all that much. :-| Millions, i can understand, but 6 figures is easily makable with coaching job.

Would you rather be grad assistant for

    Coach Cal, Self, K, Roy,

    or

Pastner, Barbee, and other players related to Coach Cal?

Personally, i would much rather work under Coach Cal. He also became a head coach at 29. Darn young. Not to mention, working under huge successes are much more likely to lead me to head coaching jobs. (or reputation)

  • Nah you make the money playing ball while you can if you can.

    tWhit

  • Sorry wildmoon but I'm totally with tWhit on this one, you go play pro ball and put some dollars in your accounts while you can, coaching will always be there for a kid who went to UK, Cal will get him put somewhere to learn the trade if he ends up wanting to!

Any chance we could get a CP interview with Mays at some point and find out about his plans?
