Updated 2013 football recruiting wishlist.

  • Stoops just landed his first commitments as Hc of UK. 4 star JUCO DE Za'Darius Smith and Texas JUCO TE Steven Borden Jr.(son of WcW and now TNA star Sting) Smith is a 6'6 250lb monster at DE...great run stuffer and pass rusher..quick,strong, relentless. Major, major coup for UK to land Smith..who held offers from FSU, Miami, Auburn, amonf dozens of others. Borden is a 6'4 250lb Te that runs a 4.48 and owns a 36" vertical leap..hes also strong as a bull and a great blocker on the edge. Borden will use that sub 4.5 speed to beat Lb's in the pass game and to keep those fast SEC DE's and LB's from getting to our QB as a blocker. Two big "gets" for UK. The ball is rolling just a little faster now.
UK's 2013 class just got better..and is set to get even greater still..imho.

Neal Brown said in his presser yesterday that Uk was absolutely going to "Flip some players" meaning we are set to get kids commited to Nebraska and Texas Tech to come to UK instead! These players being highly touted 4 star recruits Courtney Love (LB,Nebraska) Marcus McWilliams (Ath,Neb) then Ra'Shad Samples WR, Daryl Chestnut Rb, from TTU. All 4 star kids with impressive offer sheets.Uk also in hard for Antione Miles..a DE that was commited to Nebraska, the Alexander twins..MacKenzie being the kid were hardest after..Ryan Timmons should be a Cat soon..Lovell Peterson..great OC/DT from Dayton.

In less than 2 weeks..Stoops has already made a mark on Uk football..improved UK football a little bit..in less than a month!

    My 2013 wishlist.
    1:Za'Darius Smith DE 6'6 250 4.6 Juco
    2: Steven Borden TE 6'4 250 4.4 Juco
    3: Ryan Timmons wr/ath 5'11 180 4.31
    4: Courtney Love LB 6'3 220 4.5
    5: Sean Paul CB 6'0 185 4.4
    6: Brisly Estime cb/kr 5'9 186 4.35
    7: Lovell Peterson C 6'3 290
    8: Marquez Valdes WR 6'3 200 4.4
    9: Ra'Shad Samples WR 5'11 175 4.3
    10: Maurice Swain DT 6'6 320 4.9
    11: MacKenzie Alexander wr/cb 5'10 185 4.3
    12:MacKenro Alexander S 6'0 190 4.4
    13: Lauren Jackson DT 6'4 290 4.8 Juco
    14: Ernest Suttles DE 6'6 235 4.55
Add in around 11 of the current commits..and this becomes a very nice 1st class for Stoops. Of course..it wont be exactly this..but Im starting to think this is very clsoe to what we could wind up with. Im super excited to see just how good this staff is when we roll into Febuary siging day with a handfull of 4 star kids mixed with tons of Florida speed and Juco experience to help get UK playing up to par sooner rather than later!

  • Borden doesn't have sub 4.5 speed. Your positivity is a good thing but please post accurate information.

His coaches reported 4.49. THat would be sub 4.5. If you are referring to his highlights..you must remember..those are from his frosh year and the newest are saying 4.5..but you cant go by those. I recall having seen his listed time at 4.49. Kid is low 4.5 consistently. Thats exceptional speed for a 6'4 250 TE.

  • The information about Borden's speed is accurate as multiple sources claim him to have 4.48 speed, like his team website.

But if UK landed those guys with who they have already, that would be an extremely nice recruiting class to start with. There are two guys I wish this staff could land but are long long long shots to get in the Trinity studs of Jason Hatcher and James Quick, I doubt the staff can get one of these let alone both, but hey I didn't see Smith coming either so anything is possible with this staff.

It has been reported that he's been timed at 4.49....but either way...a 4.5 for a guy his size is ridiculous.

Thanks for the support! I agree..either one of Hatcher/Quick/White would be nice..me..id love Hatcher and Smith at DE next year!! Timmons and Alexander would be nice too..brings a ton of speed to bear upon our opponets.

  • Maybe someone can explain why, with measurables like this, Borden didn't have any other offers.

  • Don't forget Hatcher is strongly considering UK and could flip to UK by signing day.

  • With such a small sr class next year, I really don't see us signing more than 20-21 in this class. It appears 11 of the previous commits are good to go, along with the 2 JUCOs we signed today, so, I think we get 7-8 more, max.. I expect after spring practice, the staff will likely tell 4-5 that it'd be in there best interest to look elsewhere, while you'll likely see another 1 or 2 transfer, have failing grades, give up football or whatever else, so, that would leave us with 20 or so again for 2014.. We could add more than that, but, possibly have a few go the greyshirt or preferred walkon route..

It was a done deal he was going to ttech. From what I have been told. anyway he is an upgrade in so many ways. Either blocking or catching. If he can catch the ball. you can run it 3.25 speed but if you cant catch the ball well.

    Kind of like Crabtree. lol

There will be a few underclassmen leaving also. UK will try to get 25 or so.

New coach has no reason to be loyal to players he did not bring in. SAD TO SAY BUT TRUE.

    Here's a stab.....

High School ball, first 3 years at private Christian HS playing QB & D in 8-man league in CA.

Moved to Texas with family for Sr. Yr high school. Was it DE or LB? New kid, new school, new state (another big one with 100's of top prospects).

1st year college at NAIA Assemblies of God school. (Pentecostal?)

2nd year of college JC in Kilgore, TX

Looks like his family has brought him along slowly, i.e, private Christian schools, no camps, out of the limelight/fast lane. Late bloomer?

How many people knew about James Whalen? He sent us his tape.

How many people knew about Max Smith? We even thought he was a Jr, not Sr.

It happens. Kid has some of the "lightest feet" that I've seen for a 6'4" 250 lb TE.

That would be nice, a Dline featuring Hatcher is a huge upgrade, the kid is a monster, guys from Trinity I know talk about him in the weight room being a monster.

I would like to see him flip to the Blue and White. UK could go from the lonely girl at prom to Prom queen when all is said and done.

  • Wow..a down vote for this post? It was a wishlist. Geez guys..I up vote everyone that responds to my posts..as you can see..cmon guys..show a little love for the excitment..thats all..Im excited to see such a boost in UK football buzz and recruiting. I got down voted for saying I think Stoops would bring in 4 or so 4 star recruits..when he was announced..now hes got 1 and has several more on the hook..trying to reel them in.

Yes..how great would it be to have Jason Hatcher and Za'Darius Smith at DE next couple years? Both great athletes..Hatcher a cat quick 6'2 240 and Smith a beast at 6'6 250. Hatcher would be a HUGE flip. Neal Brown did say UK was "definitly gonna flip some players" Only ones we're after thats commited are the Cardinal Mooney duo, both 4 star kids..and the TTu commits..Chestnut,Samples, the other 2. Oh, and Antione Miles..DE from Canton thats a Nebraska verbal.
Quick looks UofL bound..so Hatcher and possible White being the only other potential flips.
I could see us getting as many as 6 or 7 4 stars now.,with some great 3's mixed in like Sean Paul..this kid could be the best cb in this class..very, very hard hitter and excellent speed, agility.

  • Look.. all 40 times in recruiting are wrong. It is the coaches' job to get these kids recruited to the best schools, especially Juco, or they won't have a job. No one in the above list probably really really runs a 4.4 40. But that is what these times have come to: meaningless. I don't look at them anymore as they provide nothing. Watch film, look at what other schools are recruiting them, and how they would fit in those offenses. Does Ryan Timmons run a real 4.3? No, but he destroyed his sub-par competition in Kentucky and impressed Urban Meyer in a Percy Harvin type way that I believe he is a difference maker wherever he ends up, which I hope is UK.

Actually, Timmons does run a legit 4.3. He has been the fastest kid in the state, regardless of class..the last 2 years..winning the 100m dash each year. Timmons is a rare athlete..a once every 20 years type blend of speed, vision, and leaping ability. Hes also tougher than youd think at 5'11 180.

    BigBlueDawg12

  • If Hatcher flipped, and say UK gets Timmons, the Alexander twins, and the 2 teammates from Ohio who are 4 star guys, along with some other high 3 stars, how highly ranked would this class become?

Everybody but Stoops was scared of his dad. lol Plus Dawg, I didn't give you any bad points or whatever but if we could get only 5 out of that list it would be amazing.

I think we are talking about a different level of recruit, this isn't the Joker era, these guys can play anywhere they want.
