Very good effort today UK...

  • Its a loss and it kills our season but today was something we can build on. I am proud of the effort they gave. Great job by the D. There is some very good young talent and I am excited for our future.

  • I think people can take a loss a bit easier if it's played like this. UK represented itself well today.

  • Yeah, the D really showed up to play.

Gung Ho! I remember an episode where he talked about his mom making gumbo. She always spit it in twice, once at the beginning and once at the end.

I agree, I'm happy with the effort, but curious as to what transpires from here. I just hope we don't lay an egg against UT.

  • Me too John. That seems to be the way things have worked though. Play good one game then look lost the next. Hopefully we break that trend.

  • I think they played okay, but Georgia did not come into this game with any enthusiasm. I'm happy for the kids that they can hold their head up high, but the offense was atrocious and more often than not looked completely disorganized outside of two series.

Kentucky's run D was pretty dang gone good today, but we just plain flat out got lucky on a few very poor throws by Murray which would have made this a 30 point win for the Bulldogs and Kentucky fans would be up in arms.

I know Jeff is going to slap me here with his "you can't use the what if" argument, but coaches use the what if argument all the time, it's how you analyze performance, more-so than just results. It's how coaches are able to criticize their team in a win, and see the positive in a loss. It's part of the game.

And I'm just happy for the kids that we were able to get a down emotionally Georgia team because hopefully that will build some confidence for us going into UT. The problem is, if UT plays well, they will beat us handily, just like Vandy did.

Here is where I see the most trouble from this squad, is that we can compete with teams that play terribly themselves, and don't take advantage of everything we give them, but if the other team plays well, we get throttled, we don't have any ability to push back and compete with any team playing well, and that is the difference. Kentucky plays almost the same week in and week out, which is bad. And against other bad teams, or teams that play bad, we are able to break through with some plays. But outside of that, it's throttle time.

  • I will give the team 3/4 of the effort award.

The d stood up for sure. The o seemed to to be locked-in in the first half, but something wasn't clicking in the second half... I could take an early season loss like this, but tough to swallow when so close to making next week's game something truly special.

A lot easier. I'm not a moral victory guy at all but this team played about as well as could expected. Had a few drops or TO's went the other way and we could have won this game. Good showing by the Cats.

  • Very, very proud of the D today. They mixed things up and Murray never got comfortable. Once Crowell went down, so did their vaunted play-action game. With it went their recent production. And, UK had a lot of youth playing on D. I know Trevathan and Guy will be HUGE losses, but the unit has got some playmakers ready to go. Kudos to Minter and Co.

The same can not be said of the offense. They are simply atrocious. Smith showed good poise in the first half, but played scared in the 2nd. While the TE were sure-handed, the WR unit was dropping catchable passes all day. Not sure why Sanders wouldn't run it more either. It put Smith in a bad position on most drives. There just aren't any playmakers on offense. None!!

Next week will be interesting. It's likely UT loses to Vandy, so neither team will have much to play for. The Vols will be looking for a win in the SEC. And, the 'Cats will look to end the nation's longest losing streak to one team. Of all the seasons, this could be the one when that happens.

  • Fantastic effort by the D. Trevathan is a warrior. Saw some encouraging flashes from some of the young guys on defense (Coleman, Dupree, Lowery, Douglas). Secondary still worrisome, though.

Special teams play continue to be a major issue. No way can Nord coordinate that group again next season.

And the offense looked really bad once again, albeit against a really good defense. Sorry, but I'm just not seeing much on that side of the ball that makes me optimistic that they can be much better next year. Hope Smith is healthy enough to play and be effective next week. newton looked unhealthy (and didn't look to excited to be in the game). Randy Sanders hasn't forgotten how to coach, but he's made some really puzzling calls this season.

This may be unfair, but my perception of this team and where the program is headed depends
on the outcome of the UT game. Im in the camp that refuses to pick UK in this game until they beat them (that is, if UK ever beats their arch rival again). Tyler Bray back on the field and UK's struggles in the secondary, I'm afraid UK can't score enough to beat them. Hope they prove me wrong.

  • The D surprised the hell out of me, some great young players and two studs that are definitely going to be missed in 2012. Now if the offense could have put more than 10 points on the board, that would have been nice.

    Keep Calm & Stoops On..

True that. A lot easier to swallow when a team comes out and competes. UK played its tails off, just couldn't capitalize.
