Was it a home run?

GARY, Ind.—Kentucky’s season, as it were, came down to one swing, one at bat and one umpire’s ruling. The question: Was it a home run?

  • Three blown calls all by the first base umpire!!!

Inspecting the clip in both real-time and in single frames, it’s only then made clear that the ball hit the guard rail right on the yellow line, ricocheted downward and bounced off the top of the wall, high up in the air and eventually into Flynn’s glove.

    1. It sounds like you are saying you have to consult the video -- including frame-by-frame -- to tell for sure what happened. I know the guy blew some previous calls, but it's hard to blame someone standing ~ 200+ feet away if it's that close.

    2. That is why you should, at least, have 6 umpires for postseason play like mlb and, at most, allow replay for determining HRs and possibly foul/far balls in the OF.

Maybe but that was HIS THIRD blown call of the game.

  • Well it seems to be a very simple decision; whoever this umpire is needs to be removed. One missed call is understandable but three is completely unacceptable. I'm sure there are plenty of good umpires who would love his job and I say give it to them.
