We could possibly salvage things..

  • If we get stomped on saturday, attendance will be low for So Car..If they whip us attendance will be horrible for the next game..After the So Car game Mitch should come out and say a change is going to be made after the season..Then I believe more people would start coming to games and supporting the team as there would be a ray of hope,a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel..If he waits until after the season is over,so much money will be lost it wont even be funny..Mitch is a smart guy,I sure hope he realizes he cannot let this program sink much lower..We could pay a coach's first two years salary with the money we are losing now....

Maybe he should get on the phone and contact the Hedspeth fellow down in La..Seems to be a fiery coach...Also,another board has a thread that has said that Kyle Wittingham of Utah has made it known that he would listen...I guess we shall see...

  • I don't see Mitch stating that there will be a change after the season. I don't see him stating that a change will be made until it actually happens.

  • The fact that so much money is going to be lost, I still believe bringing in a replacement coach, if we are lucky enough to land Petrino since he is unemployed is still a possibility.

Hiring Petrino and announcing him as HC, UK would sell out the remainder of their games.

Now maybe Petrino doesn't want to come to UK, but I don't really see any jobs he will be offered, maybe Auburn, but I still have a hard time believing the Barners will fire Chizik 2 years removed from a National Championship
If Tennessee fires Dooley, Kirby Smart will be their top choice.

Still think Arkansas and Kentucky will be the only 2 SEC teams looking for a coach at the end of the season.

Petrino is arguably a top 5 coach. At least top 7 or 8 in the nation.

You have Saban, Meyer, Fischer, Peterson, and Stoops as my top 5. After that I would put Petrino, some may argue Kelley, Holgerson, Miles, Spurrier.

Kentucky is not the type of program that can pass up the opportunity to hire a coach of that magnitude. Who cares about baggage. Bottom line, he has never been accused of NCAA violations as far as I know. Just some very poor personal decisions.

You have to think if a guy is trying to reconcile his personal life and build back up his reputation, Lexington, KY sounds like a solid fit. That is why everyone around the country (Analysts, Fans, Talking heads) think it is a perfect fit. Of course the administration has to also give him the tools to succeed.

Landing Petrino would also give us a one up in Louisville recruiting, we would likely land Quick, and maybe some of the others from Trinity.

I would love to see an offense in a couple of years with Smith or Towles, throwing to Sweat, Robinson, Collins, and Quick. All guided by Bobby Petrino.

  • A couple of things.

1.) I don't know why you think UK announcing Joker is gone at the end of the year would help ticket sales.
2.) I don't know why you would let Joker coach the rest of the season after announcing that he's going to be fired. What good would that do?
3.) Why would we likely land Quick just because we have Petrino.

I hate that it has come to this. I hate that it did not work out for Joker. He's a great person and would have been the ideal person to take UK to the top. It doesn't seem like that is going to happen though. A change is better sooner than later.

  • Josh it worked out good for Curry...Team and fans rallied around him when idiot newton said Curry was done...It was like a burden lifted off everyone...Who knows how this will work out..

    wildcatdon

  • I did not know that. I won't say how old I was during that time.

Newton waited until Curry fell to 1-6, making a bowl game mathematically impossible (they played 11 back then). UK then won its last three home game, as a sizeable underdog vs. Ga., a decent sized underdog against Miss. St., and against a typically bad Vandy team. Then, they got crushed in Knoxville in Curry's last game.

I think I would apply the same standard. Once Joker has lost seven games, I don't see any harm in saying that he won't be back. I mean, I know it's not going to happen, but how stupid would you feel if they announced Joker wouldn't return and UK went 5-3 in the SEC? I would be beyond amazed for this season to be turned around, but the head coach deserves that chance until he passes the point of no return, IMHO.

So does that mean the year we beat eventual NC LSU, that they sucked worse than us? If not please explain how you came to this conclusion.

Apples and Oranges. LSU was playing on the road against a very good ranked SEC team.

We lost to a BAD team from the Sun Belt, and they beat us AT HOME.

But you already knew that, so what was the purpose of your post?

You're about to witness how bad we suck in the consecutive coming weeks... And I HATE being a joke, doormat, everyone's Homecoming game...

I find it odd that you need explanation on this matter.

  • I am befuddled that so many are clamoring for Petrino. Has it really come to this?
