Wednesday practice report

  • Joker confirmed Patrick Towles is out for Saturday's game versus Georgia

Coach said Georgia is best overall defense UK has faced this season

He said Morgan Newton must be part of the mix

Joker said UK absolutely must find a way to run the ball on Saturday. My guess is much more Mobley.

I asked Joker about Jalen Whitlow. He's struggling, of course, but when he was thrown into the South Carolina game after just two snaps, things went really well for the rest of the first half. Honestly, probably best he's looked. Joker explained that he was an unknown and when defenders followed receivers, the field was wide open to Whelan to run. Now teams have adjusted, particularly on interior line and shutting down the path plus still bringing outside pressure.

  • I know Brooks was at practice today was Mitch there with him?

  • Did not see Mitch. Did get to say hi to Rich in hallway afterwards. Loved that guy. Wish people had got to know the person away from the sidelines. Very funny, dry sense of humor.

  • Find a way to run the ball?!?!?!?!?! WHAT????!!!!??!! How bout we find a way to pass the ball???

Defenses have figured out the wildcat formation and QB draws. I saw 9-10-11 people in the box Saturday. We have got to make them pay. Throw on 1st or 2nd down for a change. And those 1 step drop, immediate sideline throws do not count, and invite a pick 6.

I'm pretty sure I saw Jalen throwing the ball downfield earlier in the year, and really didn't look that bad doing it. I like Jalen, I think he has a ton of upside. Randy talks about a young QB throwing picks and breaking his confidience, well, how do you think his confidence is when "play calling" indicates we don't trust him to throw a ball 10 yards.

We have a young team, we have 6 losses. It's time to start playing with a "Nothing to lose" mentality. Let these kids loose, and trust their talent.

  • I would like to see this play being the first play called from scrimmage...

    Trips right
1 step drop fake bubble screen with the outside "blocker" (King?) releasing up the sideline after the DB's bite on the fake bubble screen pass.
