What happened to Micah Johnson?

  • He was a stud 5 star recruit and played well in college. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc7RoALOZfM

  • Should of been on the D line instead of LB.

  • Yea those multiple All Sec and 100 tackle seasons playing MLB were a total waste of time. I mean there are so many big time DEs with without any tyoe of length roaming around the NFL the KY coaches clearly made a mistake letting him play the position he wanted to play.

I'm pretty sure he was a 4 star but either way he was a beast at UK. Multiple ALL SEC and 100 tackle seasons. He hurt his knee and it impacted him in the pros. He was a great college players but not all of them make it in the NFL.

  • 5 star and number 9 overall per ESPN

Yea, all those 100 tackle seasons as a linebacker did a lot of good when it came time to be drafted didn't it. He would have been a holy terror coming of the edge and wouldn't have been exposed trying to cover passes. But you are right, Johnson was a tweener and that hurt him in the NFL. Still think he would have had a better chance as a DE even though he was a little short for that position.

  • Micah suffered an injury that set him back..plus..he was thrown into the fire as a true frosh..had a bad 1st year..critics got on his case and he seemed to be burdened by the pressure. Still floats around on practice squads..never truly learned his idea role which should have been a pass rushing DE. Wasnt fast enough for Lb in NFL..and because he never bulked up..wasnt suited to play DE either. I thought Dennis Johnson would do better as a pro..some kids just cant handle the spotlight..both Johnson and Johnson has the physical skill to play in the NFL..DJ did for a couple years..but not every kid pans out.

He would have been 3 times better, on the defensive line. That was his NATURAL position. He was a tad slow for LB, and even he knew it.

  • Johnson has been on the Bengals PS. They moved him to DE this summer and he is learning the position.

  • Micah could have easily carried 300+. He probably been a d-tackle.
In fact I believe some schools were refruiting him as. A d-tackle.' Because of his relative lack of height he would have never been a great d-end in the nfl.

Yea, Elvis Dumervil is really bad at 6 feet tall and a DE. But in reality Micah probably should have shift to DT. He could have been a 300 pound monster.

BS. He played his natural position and played it well. Of only Aaron Boyd had been played at TE he would have been an AA. I'd only J Logan had played DB he would have had his number retired. Wow this is fun, just through out a new position and the kid suddenly becomes a pro.

Might want to do some homework ace. I said MJ didn't had the length not height. The difference is Dummerville has very long arms. MJ does not.

They did a lot of good for UK. Not every All SEC player makes it in the NFL. Especially when you have a knee injury that requires surgery. My point is MJ was a fantastic MLB and had a very successful career at KY.

Just my personal opinion, dude. Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean you have to be a jackass about it.

And now he is a DE becuase he can't play Linebacker in the pros.

Yea and he isn't playing DE in the League either. He is on the practice squad. My point is that MJ had a great career as a MLB at KY. Just because he didn't make it in the NFL doesn't mean he was a bust in college. Far from it. Having the opinion that he would have had an even better college and potential pro career at another position doesn't make it so.

Yea your opinion it is his natural position but it isn't supported by any facts. Those types of opinions are easy to have.

One big fact: He isn't playing MLB in the NFL. He's working at Defensive END. Hm.. suspicious.

Reading through this post - I have to agree with the others on this one. Micah did have a good, not great, but good college career playing MLB at UK. However, if he were thinking about his long term future, he should have wanted to play D-line in college. As mentioned, the Bengals have him playing DE, and he is only now having to learn the position.....what, 3-4 years after he graduated from college?

Analogy: Randall Cobb could have had a nice career as a QB at UK.....but he played WR instead (his primary position was WR). Cobb is currently KILLING IT in Green Bay at WR......not QB.

The original question was what happened to Micah Johnson. I took that to mean why he hasn't broke through in the NFL. Well what happened to him was he played the wrong postion in college to get him ready for the position he would need to play in the pros. Nobody said he had a bad career at UK. Just it didn't get him ready for the pros.

  • He played as many pro games at MLB as he has at DE. Again, you guys are ignoring his knee injuries as a JR and SR. He had the prototype body for a MLB. The only reason they are letting him play DE on the practice squad is because he is still a physical specimen but there isn't anything other than "opinions" to suggest he would have been a better DL prospect. He just doesn't have the length to play DE or the girth to be a DT. Anytime a kid puts in seasons worthy of All SEC at KY they have had a heck of an impact. Not to mention it was Johnson who knocked J Hester out of the game on third down in the LSU game. That had as much to do with the overtime win as B Kelleys stop on the next play. Plus his stops late in the game at AU helped UK get that road victory. MJ was a great player at UK and lived up to his hype.

Cobb as a WR KR is night and day from moving from MLB to DLine. Cobb had the physical skills and attributes to be a great WR/KR. There are a lot of NFL skill guys with R Cobbs measurables. There are not many if any DEs with MJ height and reach. No way he ever gets to the size of an NFL DT. Without the Knee injury he likely gets a legit shot at MLB but no way you make him longer so he could be a NFL DE.

By looking at his profile, has he ever played a regular season pro game? It reads like he was either released early or was on the practice squads. It seems the facts are, he was unprepared for pro ball and is now learning a new position with the Bengals. I don't think its a knock, he was injured in college, but it would have been a help if he had played a position that he would play in the pros.
