What should UK pay

  • If Joker does get let go what should UK pay to hire an elite coach? I say at least between 3 or 4 million. Your thoughts?

  • Whatever it takes.
    cheers

  • Be creative. Maybe a % of the football income?

    Clever stuff here.

  • Fair Market Value. Unlike many who say Barnhart/UK won't pay to improve football, I think they would if they could get the right guy. I look for Barnhart to reachout to someone like Jon Gruden, Tony Dungy or even a Jim Tressel. Unfortunately though, I'm not sure even HUGE money can make that kind of thing happen. There is nothing wrong with Mitch swinging for the fences (he should), but in the end I think the next head coach will most likely be a mid-major HC, a big-school college coordinator or a pro assistant. While they may need to go a little higher than they like, none of those three categories is going to command mega-bucks.

  • I seriously hope they hire a big name, insert who ever you think that is, and he falls so hard on his face, he leaves after one year.

Just curious, why would you want that to happen? Shouldn't you want whoever is coaching the Cats to be successful? I get where you're going, but I'd like to see some real success here. Not an 8-4 season. At least a 10 win season. Though I'll admit, I'm not holding my breath.

  • Pretty sure Jim Tressel cannot coach college football for a couple more years.

  • Frist and foremost I've been 100% against not giving Joker at less 4-5 yrs, to get his players in the program and see if he could right the ship and put us in the same breath with the Bamas, Ga's, and LSU's of this league.
I'm a full time fan and a SSP for life!

I'm over it, I dont care who we bring in as long as we win. I'm tired of being the laughing stock of the SEC and pretty much college football.

Does anyone know what it we cost us to buy out every coach on our staff now?
Its time to start over, there has to be a coach thats up for a challenge. Hell thats why The Old Ball Coach took the USC job, he said it right on the air in a press conference.

U think Tressel would, if he could?
And is he who we might want?

I'm just asking no point intended, I'm at a lose when it comes to coaches I just think we need a change.

  • Trent Dilfer ever coached anything other than the Elite 11?

  • I'd rather us go ahead and start working to throw the moon at a young up and comer personally. I don't want an assistant coach that's done well somewhere else and I don't want an older head coach in the twilight of his career either. Would love to see us throw a ton of money at Butch Jones from Cincy or Mark Hudspeth from Louisiana Lafayette off the top of my head.

  • history has shown that if you make the right hires, schools with no tradition at all can become major players on thenational stage in football. its all in who coaches the teams. that said, i believe uk should pay their coach and staff at least 6 million to come and ressurrect this program that has been neglected for 60 years by the UK admin. get the right people, give them what they need to recruit, make player amenities second to none and we will be in New Years Bowls quicker than anyone thinks. UK can do it. We just must have the commitment to do it. Still, i hope Joker and staff can turn this around and they can stay. this staff is the best one they have had since the fifties with Collier, Knox, Shula, etc. in my opinion.

  • Market price for the best coach it can possibly hire. If it takes a little bit above market price to land a true home run hire, then I'd be inclined to do that.

With UK's recent trouble with the NCAA, not sure the Tressel road is the one they want to go down.

  • Gruden and Dungy are retired. They want no part of a rebuilding project at UK. UK is in a position like Tennessee basketball, you always need to look for the next up-and-coming small conference head coach or great assistant at a top 10 program. Someone that can handle the SEC and have a long-term strategy. Also, recruit Florida, Georgia, and maybe Texas.

First of all Tressell is no different than your God Send coach Cal! He made a mistake by covering up 5 players wrong doing and tried to fix it himself without proper protocol ! However as a Buckeye stuck in this state ie wife and her family thank God for Ironton OH 3 min from my house. However I will say UK fans love to win and Tressell is a winner 3 title games in 10 years 1 national title 5-3 in BCS bowls 7 conference titles ! The man gets it and knows how to motivate young champions as he calls them! UK football would greatly improve under the vest and as his players have ALWAYS said The Vest knows Best! He would embrace the UK community and bring a since of pride to EVERYTHING UK would offer! Obviously I'm a UK hater but he would be a home run hire! Face it Joker must go!! The football program is a doormat in the country and now even lower than a doormat in its own state!! UK should bring a national brand in everything ! Sorry but it not just care about Basketball.TOSU! does well in both so does many other schools MIchigan St , Florida , Wisconsin, TSUN, WVU! If those schools can do it so can UK

That would be an outside the box answer. I watched some of the Elite 11 on TV and that guy is good.

  • I think Dungy and Gruden are pretty happy doing the commentator thing. It's much less stress than the actual coaching, and probably pays almost as well.

Because I see a bunch of Chickens with their heads cut off, running around and demanding change now, after a bad loss no doubt. I get sick of this argument. Hire a big name and that will fix everything. People love the quick fix, that they think, will fix everything. There are clearly BIGGER problems with the program. Fix those, those are the actually problems.

I do agree that there is much more to what is wrong with the program than the head coach and his staff. With that said, I highly doubt a Petrino, Tressel, or whoever you care to name would even let WKU stay in that game. There are other problems, but there is one fixable problem that the AD department can take care of rather easy.

Those problems will never get fixed unless UK hires a BIG TIME NAME that can put pressure on the admin! The people who are causeing these problems behind the scenes don't care, and nobody who really knows who they are has the balls to stand up and call them out.

The only way UK finally comitts to football is if we bring in a BIG time coach that wins, gets the fans on his side, and has the guts to stand up to the admin, and put pressure on them publically. We need a larger than life personality, like Cal, that will call these Jerkoffs out! There may not be a quick fix, but there will be no fix if we just continue to wallow in mediocrity in all possible ways. The one thing we do have control over in the immediate future, is the coach that is hired.

  • OK first of all it will not be just 4 or 5 mill per yr. It will be 4 to 5 for the coach and another 4 for his staff.
    total of 9 mill +.

How will UK pay for this ????? trippplll ticket prices ????

And add this folks he will still have to recruit the same state of KY that has very little talent each yr to pick from. And why would a 4 or 5 star kid leave GA or Bama to come this far north to play for KY ????
When they have dreamed of playing in there home state in front of family.

Sorry folks we UK fans dream a ton of dreams. But hey its not my money lets spend 20 mill per yr on the best staff poss!!!

  • The issues with the state govt and university admin are the stumbling block to a home run hire. Any coach worth their salt is going to be aware of these issues and will want to see the commitment from that end as well before they will jump on board. ADs having always said the cash is there for any hire. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for that, it's the lack of larger support from the very top that will prevent a big time hire.

Not true. Hell the money UK gets from the SEC TV package and bowl revenue will more than cover a coaching staff and other sports. Also where in the hell did you come up with the 20 million in the last sentence? UK may raise ticket prices but no more than any other college would. It's just business as usual.
