What was Mitch Barnhart thinking when he made this statement?

  • I like Mitch as a person, but he's honestly making this football situatuion much worse than it has to be for him.

On the pregrame radio coverage, Mitch thanked the "real" fans, the ones who are here today. However, he toed the line when he made a very controversial comment in my mind by proclaiming "Many of the fans that want Joker replaced have "personal agendas" " WTF was he thinking by stating that? Is he trying to alienate the entire fanbase against him?

  • Who knows, my personal agenda is that I want a competitive football team. We don't need to be Alabama, but competitve and going bowling and beating SEC teams from time to time.

  • Mitch is trying to find any way to keep his friend working. He doesnt want to admit that he was wrong and knows that playing the "race" card would be able to keep some people off his back. It is really un-professional to see someone in his position acting and saying the things he's doing. His job should be taken into questioning.

Barnhart's bosses should publicly reprimand him for those compliments.

  • I believe Mitch really stuck his foot in it today. I know several people thatreally weren't that invested in the coaching situation who are talking about the remark and how stupid it was.

  • That is just nonsense from someone at his position. He just questioned the butter on his bread. . supporters of the University, fans etc. are the ones asking not just questions. . but for simple statements about the number one revenue producer for the University of KY Athletics.

As an AD, and you kill your cash cow. . from a business standpoint that is just. . well crazy.

  • Sounds like he's doubling down on Joker and has decided that's the "hill he wants to die on"...metaphorically speaking. I also like Mitch as a person and we share some of the same faith-based beliefs but blaming non-"fans" for not opening their wallets to sit in the cold to watch us get waxed by Vandy means he's lost focus. I think he's mis-calculated the collateral he banked by bringing in Cal. I appreciate his loyalty to Joker but don't try to lay the Kentucky football mess at the feet of "not real fans" and those with agendas. They're the same "fans" that support the basketball program AND optimistically turn out every Fall to support the football program.

  • I'm actually quite proud of the fanbase. Mitch and UK took them for granted and thought they would show up and spend money on UK football regardless the quality of the product. Good to see the UK fans finally wising up and having some "standards" and reasonable "expectations". Good for you guys whom have finally had enough and are demanding more.

  • I have always admired Mitch but today that admiration is gone...Maybe its time for him to leave with Joker..We need someone with fire and vision to lead our sports programs.
Mitch apparently doesnt realize how important football is...I am done with him and Joker....Our football players have quit and the announcement needs to be made immediately.

  • LIstening to Larry Glover now. .he is getting killed on the comment and is asking for anyone with a tape. I guess it really is true.

Thank you for saying that about Mitch going because Ive been saying that for almost a month now and with his statement just made I guess he thinks there are only 20,000 to 25,000 real fans. Mitch you need to wake up or get the heck out of Dodge on the other hand why dont you just go.

    Nicely expressed.

  • At this point, I've had all I can stand from Mitch... it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see him go as well.

They can help eachother pack as far as I'm concerned. For the sake of our players, I tried like hell to remain positive and display some level of support, but my optimism has been running out with each passing week... and Mitch is equally to blame for it (if not more so). The way he has ignored us fans and our pleas for "real" answers, is complete bullshit. He has, blatantly, disrespected BBN this entire season... and has dodged questions or comments at every turn. His lacking sense of "reality", along with his failure to answer questions and/or failure to comment on our coaching situation, our team or the future of our program, is totally uncalled for and VERY unprofessional... it proves how low us "fans" rank on his "level of importance" scale.

  • Statements like this are what happen when personal feelings for a horribly underperforming favorite employee get dangerously in the way of performing your duties objectively as the CEO of a large business. The substance of his rant does't bother me (sticks and stones Mitch). What bothers me is how stupid he has to be to make such remarks to what is essentially his customer base. I don't remember Bill Gates railing Microsoft users because they were critical of Vista. If he did, not sure how he would expect those customers to buy the next product.

  • I went to the game today, and I heard those comments driving in. Every time Mitch speaks on that, you understand why he's hesitant to comment publicly. Just remarkably poor judgment on his part to criticize any UK fans under the current set of circumstances. Mitch is not doing himself any favors with his public remarks and deserves some criticism for his last two sets of remarks.

  • I'm so disgusted with Mitch, that if I were given the choice of either he or Joker (only one or the other) be terminated today... my choice would be Mitch.

(I'd even volunteer to help him pack and help him move his shit)

  • If these comments are correct Mitch needs to check himself. I got his agenda right here. He signs off on a coach hired by Rich Brooks in essence. And I'm in agreement how much I wish it had worked with Joker since he'd stay right here forever. But it didn't. And he needs to step down. But to imply the fans let the team down is the most arrogant thing I've ever heard.

Let's be realistic. CWS seats about 67000. This program is supported by the state, not just Lexington and the surrounding communities. You place an inferior product on the field you are asking an awful lot from a fan base that has to be wise how they spend their entertainment dollars. How does he know where the 20-25000 people there today actually came from? I guarantee the folks who have to make a huge investment in travel time and gas and lodging aren't likely to make that trip. A large number who came today are likely from under 50 miles away. The agenda there is to watch it on TV or listen on the radio and keep your money rather than drive such a distance.

Joker is one of us. He loves this school. He just is over matched on the field. But Mitch hasn't figured it out yet. He's the one with the agenda. He wants to stick his hands in our pockets while shoving whatever he wants down our throats. I've been a Mitch apologist for years. If these remarks are correct (I've not heard them) then he has 2 jobs. Put friendship aside and fix his screw up. And apologize to the fans, that have supported 6-6 and 7-5 teams with glee, for allowing this program to slip to this level. If not I'm for keeping Joker and getting a search for a new AD.
