When did it become "cool" to bash everything UK football related

  • I know full well this team has a lot to improve on but my goodness there isn't a single part of our program that can be discussed without someone bashing the crap out of it. I just don't get it. Is it really necessary to be negative about every aspect?

I understand the need to be critical at some things but I cringe at some of these posters that can't be positive about anything to do with the program. How much fun can it be to be a fan that hates everything about the program they supposed to be cheering for? That must be a miserable experience.

Maybe I've just been on these boards too long. I just don't tolerate negative people very well and I wouldn't have someone like that around me in my personal life. I just can't imagine they are much fun to be around on a dailey basis, I know it gets beyond old reading it day after day.

  • No its getting to the point of being pathetic. I understand some peoples frustrations but a part of our fanbase need a serious reality check. People want to go from 2 wins to 10 wins overnight. That simply isnt gonna happen. I think what we are seeing is the fans that have lain in wait so they could say, "I told you so." Its amazing how UK football is still viewed. My father wouldnt watch a UK football game if his life depended on it. Only thing he cares about is basketball. He expects UK football to be bad every year no matter what he actually knows about the team. This team has given people the ability to come out strut around and say,"I told you so, I knew we couldnt keep it up."

  • What's also patheic is the "license" that the national media seems to think they have concerning comments about UK football. I have never heard announcers dog a team the way the announcers did for the UF-UK game. It was extraordinarily unprofessional.

Anyone else think ESPN shows promo or opening game highlights of teams (like Florida/S. Car./LSU) against the Cats almost exclusively?

    KSt

  • I've noticed that too. Always against UK. Of course, our D has been prone to big plays the past couple of years...

    PHCD

  • Well I've done my share of bashing but I certainly don't view it as being "cool". I support UK football and hope that one day we are annually competitive in the conference. What is so disheartening for a lot of the football fans is we appeared to have at least sustained a certain level of performance which made us competitive with most of the teams in the league. Usually turnovers or stupid mental errors were to blame for a poor performance or a close loss. This season is the first since Brooks first season that we flat out can't compete. We might win 1 more game this year. Our ineptness on offense is astonishing despite what we lost from last years team.

Going to 5 straight lower tier bowl games appeared to have us poised to stay competitive for a number of years and to lay a foundation for climbing up the ladder in the East division. We have instantly fallen behind even Vanderbilt. That's unacceptable. This setback can't be blamed on probation. It's squarely on leadership, specifically the coaching and it is apparent to most everyone that no changes will be made there this year or even next. So most of us realize it's time to settle into another low point for UK football and then a new guy will come in and take 2-3 years trying to replenish the roster to where it's competitive again and if he's successful he'll move on to better and brighter things.

It's an endless cycle that I question can ever be broken. I'm not mad at anyone and I still root for the team but my optimism has a shelf life.

  • Yeah for the last 5 or 6 years you will not see an SEC highlight without seeing our D getting torched. Very frustrating.

  • Even my kids have picked up on that! One of the promos I noticed was Orson Charles of UGA scoring a TD against UK - this was the game that UK won in Athens... It's pathetic, but we have no one that will call them out on that...

    DACats86

  • They played Trey Burton scoring on us I would bet 50 times before the FL game. Every highlight has a UK player diving or scrambling to make a tackle as the other team breaks away.

Make no mistake brother, its been there and beyond pathetic, and the core of this (at least on this site) is a small group of posters. They (as well as all of us) know who, but they are not the problem...WE ARE! IMO it is us core of long time members who helped build this site, and until we take ownership in it, stand up as a united front, and send a very loud and very clear messenger that we no longer want that crap here, I'm afraid it will only get worse.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and as fans there is nothing wrong with voicing concerns and frustrations, but that is not what's going on here. Its an all out attack
on the kids, the staff, or the adminisration. Especially for a couple of posters that obviously pose as UK fans and are posting solely to rip and tear down the before mentioned or bait other posters into arguments.

Anyway, if there are those who are truly tired if it then why not do something about it? Let these people know, we don't want their venom spewed here on this site, and let the powers that be hear about it as well.

It is my feeling that if you are not a part of the solution then your simply a part of the problem.

  • Over the last week I've bashed the team more than I ever have. Well I guess not really the team, just the offensive scheme.
I think Joker is ther perfect man for the job if he can turn this around. Solid recruiter who is BLUE all the way. Won't leave for the next job he is offered.
While I vent my frustrations on here sometimes, you can bet your butt I'll be at every Catwalk and every game supporting the team.

I feel the same way bigbluerules and thats the way it should be done. As fans we arent all gonna be happy, thats the way life is. That doesnt mean that we should stop supporting our team. Last year I bashed the stache'd all season because nothing changed. If we go thru this entire year defining insanity I will expect heads to roll. That doesnt mean that Im gonna whine about every single thing UK does. I understand things need to change either they will or they wont.

  • I'm with y'all. As someone that has been here since the site's inception as Kentucky Ink, it's disheartening to see where we are as a community. While there are certainly areas that need improvement and areas of strength. We can discuss them constructively and intelligently, as has been the norm. Or, we can say everything sucks and always will suck, and faarr Joker, and faarr Sanders. Unfortunately, it's more of the latter and not the former. Sad!!

  • This is the very first rule for TCP...

    1. All members and visitors are required to respect each other and show respect for University of Kentucky coaches, players and administrators. Constructive criticism is permitted and friendly debate encouraged, but must be done in a civil manner that demonstrates a basic respect for all involved. Name-calling and personal insults will be removed and are grounds for having board privileges revoked.

Respect for all. Constructive criticism is the key.

  • I realize that there has to be balance. I truly do get that. However, as crappy a things are going, I'd like to have a place to go where people are trying to at least acknowledge the positive things going on, and heck at least look for the positive things. Unfortunately when they are brought up they either die for lack of interest, or they are shouted down by those with an opposing opinion. Worse yet, they are redirected into a topic that can be more easily attacked. Heck, I have to stay off the message boards after something bad happens because I get so mad at some of the fans for their wicked attacks that it's just flat out not good for me. OK, and the absolute worst for me are those with an agenda against UK administration. We get it, you don't like them, you're not going to acknowledge when they do something good. You're only going to say that it was way too long in coming, or that it's still not enough. It doesn't have to be reiterated in every thread and every topic.

Ok, I feel better already. Thanks Doc how much do I owe you!

  • The team sucks right now. There looks to be a lack of leadership from the AD and head football coach. Season ticket holders can not criticize the situation?? They have invested in the program and get nothing in return.

I really wonder- how many posters on here buy season tickets and donate to the K-fund? I bet the most critical have a reason too because they're spending hard earned money on an inferior product.

    boz

  • The team doesnt suck the situation does. I think its ironic that the OLine that has sucked so bad is the same one that beat USCjr last year.

THIS. also the antagonizing by the "Basketball First" crowd is the real culprit. Why can't we be good at both? it's like a certain portion of the fanbase is afraid of it so they bash the football team as much as they can.

    Jessdogky

  • I think its more the fact a large portion of the basketball crowd doesnt care about football unless they are bad and can say, "See look at that I knew they were awful." I spoke on this in another thread. I had to deal with this for a long time with my own father.

  • What I'm seeing doesn't make much sense to me. Last year we had a very inexperienced defense because of youth. Many spent the entire season calling for Brown's replacement. This year they have improved, but most of the improvement I've seen is do to a year's worth of playing time and player experience and development. This year it is the offense's turn to be inexperienced and learning the ropes, so now it's Sanders turn. Kind of like buying stock at highs and selling at lows. Personally I think this hurts a program not helps it to build .

    Suchy500

  • I agree whole heartedly, desipite the score the last two weeks, I have seen alot of improvement and think things may start to look up starting this weekend. Some people are just pessimistic period, dont know why

    stonewall011

  • it's because we lost to Louisville. Pure and simple. It's like no matter what happens from here on out, the fact we lost to them has turned many of the fans against this program.

The defense has improved. Our running game is getting better. There are areas of improvement going on that seem to go unnoticed because people have their pitchforks out saying fire "insert hated UK person of the week"

    cardkilla

  • I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. I certainly do not want or need a bunch of negative nancy's in my life .I believe that like a lot of things complaining becomes habitual .It spills over into other parts of a persons life .UK message boards are loaded with them .
