Where is Eric Dixon?

  • I though he played well for us last year as a true freshman. This year he is not in the 2 deep. He made some key solo tackles for us against Vandy and UT. Can anyone report on his status?

  • He's third-string safety behind Lowery and Daron Blaylock

Matt wasn't Dixon recruited as a corner? Any chance he moves back?

He was indeed, and played nickel corner last season, but I'd guess that if they wanted to move him back they would have done so as soon as they got the Caffey news and not put him at safety throughout camp. Tells me they don't think he fits there given how open the CB spot was.

That's true. If he could play there they would have moved him. Was just thinking they thought since that Neolms had more experience that was a better move and/or choice?

  • Honestly...I thought he was better than Cartier Rice in nickel...Cartier is simply small and not overly athletic. I'm not a fan of any of the moves of DBs under Cassity...

    - Ashlie Lowrey is more suited for Winston's old spot vs. free safety.
    - I know hands were tied when Caffey went down..but it feels like all we've done is weaken 2 spots
    - Dixon to safety, to me, just back logs all kinds of kids at safety...Faulkner, Dixon, Blaylocks, Dakotah Tyler, Lowrey, etc...and we literally have next to zilch at CB.

  • ^ Through Simmons into this bizarre set of last minute position changes as well.

I think Coach Cassity has some 'splainin to do.

I think Lowery best position is Strong Saftey which I believe is what he plays. Benton and Tyler are the free safties.

Do you honestly think he is best suited to play deep safety or Winston Guy's old safety/rover spot? I see a kid that likes to bring the wood but is a tad slow at DB for me.

  • I think you are confused between the difference between the strong and free saftey. The deep saftey is the free saftey, I think Lowery is better suited for the strong saftey position which players a little closer to the line and usually assists in the run defense.

  • Yeah Lowery at times was all the down at LB level playing his position which is SS.

True in most systems, but as I recall in the Minter system they actually refer to deep safety as the strong safety for some reason

I can give him some slack since he has lost players now to academics and injury. The Nelms experiment did not work well in the ul game either.
