  • Quarterback. Very. I like Max and think that he has the moxy to be good. If we continue to run primarily a shotgun up tempo, it would also be easier to get some work for Towles. Although I would LOVE for him to redshirt and put space between he and Max, I just don't think we'll get through the season and be able to. I like the options we have for Wildcat with Bookie and the xfer from EKU who lead the 2nd team Saturday (name escapes me).

  • QB Smith, DT's Rumph, Cobble, LB Williamson, RB Coshik & Clemons.
Although I saw promise, jury is still out for me on WR and DE.

    Go Cats!
    cheers

  • QB in smith...he seems poised to have a solid season.
WR/TE I feel comfortable with Marco and King, along with Robinson to have trust worthy hands.
OL I of course like Warford and feel that Miller can have a great season as a soph
Defense I really only feel comfortable with our DTs in Cobble and Rumph and Dupree in the hybrid. Williamson is making his way up there but outside of that I'll have to wait and see when gameday comes

  • This is a tough question to answer. I am somewhat torn, but realistically, I didn't see enough in the Spring game to finalize any confidence in anyone that I didn't have confidence in already. Therefore, here's my list:

Larry Warford: Contributor at a high level for a number of years, complete confidence in this guy.
Matt Smith: See above, these two guys have to step up and be leaders on our otherwise inexperienced OL.
Avery Williamson: Contributor last year, looks to be a leader on defense. Must continue to improve.
Martavious Neloms: Solid player, big hitter, appears to have a better grasp. Has to bring along the young DBs.
Tyler Robinson: Consistent, dependable, nasty at the point of attack. Not flashy, but my choice if we have to have a catch.
Rumph/Cobble: These guys brought it late in the season last year. I almost put Coleman here as well, but he has some learning left to do.

That's a pretty short list, but these are the guys I don't have any real questions about. A second group of guys I feel good about, but need to see more improvement and consistency to have a lot of confidence in: Smith, King, Clemons, Sanders, CoShik, George, Kendrick, Marco, Dupree, Rice, Lowery, Ukwu, Simpson, Coleman, Douglas. These are kids that look to be getting it, but haven't put it entirely together yet.

Another list of people I have some concerns with: Fields, Eatmon, Mitchell, Woods, Collins, McDuffen, Johnson, Newton, Miller, West, McCaskill, Dixon, Simmons, Caffey, Faulkner. This is a catch-all. Either I haven't seen enough to know what we're going to see (and we'll see some of them a lot) or there are gaps in their games right now that it will take hard work to fill before the fall. This is certainly not an insult, just concerning.

  • You guys who went Saturday, how did Max look throwing downfield on the 15+ routes?

  • Mixed results, Jeff. He hit Marco on a nice 20+ yard throw in the endzone, but overthrew him badly on the opposite sideline and had the errant ball that was picked off by Dixon.

He throws a nice short and mid-range ball, but needs to work to get more consistent down the field. The talent is there, I think it's a consistency problem. With some heavy work this summer, he'll get there.

I don't know if Drum meant it this way or not but did Smith throw his long passes with a tight spiral that was easy to catch? Or was it the wounded duck variety?

  • Offense-

Max Smith until proven otherwise (He's not going to be asked to throw many 15+ yard passes simply he won't have time)
    Warford
    M. Smith
    D. Miller
    Coshik

    Defense-

    Rumph
    Cobble
    Avery W
    Dupree
    Neloms

That's pretty much it as of now. Let's re-evaluate this topic after Labor Day Weekend.

  • max always throws a "great ball"...

  • Lots of interesting things to take from this,

1.) People seem to be more confident with Coshik than Josh; which I assume Josh's injury plays a role.
2.) Three of the five guys with two or more votes on the offense are OL, a position considered a major concern.
3.) Not as much love for Bud or LaRod as I was expecting.
4.) Good to see Martavius make a limited list on defense.
5.) Only LaRod, Coshik, Martavius, Larry and Matt are seniors. Just 5 of 14 listed. 4 of which are on the offense.

  • While many has shining moments, it's hard to get a solid read with the one's going against the two's. Personally I would have liked to see the ones against the ones. Then you could get a far better read.
