  • Nope, BinB is correct. Lovell Peterson will be a Cat! THis kid is super athletic and lean at 6'3 290..has room to grow..could wind up 6'4 315ish..my uncle..whos coached prep football all his life..says LP is a rare one..just needs to focus on his classwork. Intelligent kid..just lazy in the classroom..homework..that sort of thing..the issue is his GPA..core curriculum..but has been doing a lot better last 2 years..and in summerschool.
Id say the race for Mark Stoops' 1st commit will be between Peterson and Ryan Timmons..with guys like Brisly Estime, Sean Paul, ect following..
This staff will spoil UK fans..just wait till Stoops starts winning..going to bowls every year...you will see 5 star and 4 star kids in Lexington more and more. I cant wait to start watching the Army AA games and the other major prep games and seeing kids announce for UK..and i cant wait untill Stoops and staff land that 1st 5 star kid..a major steal from out of state..then all will know UK football has arrived as a legitimate SEC contender.
Josh..quick question..what would you rank the UK staff in the SEC as far as recruiting skill?? Im going with 4th. AS a entire staff. Bama, LSU, Georgia.
Im not saying UK will bring in the 4th best SEC class..we are handicapped by not being a fertile recruiting bed..so if we sign a 25th rated class and Fla hauls in a 10th..id say UK has done a better job recruiting than the Gators..since they are in the BEST in-state talent bed in America.

  • If we land Peterson I'm gonna wet my pants in a good way.

  • As far as staff rank, ask me after the final two hires. Honestly, last five. Strength staff plays a big role too.

Really? Still in bottom 5 as far as recruiting skill? Ouch. Stoops,Eliot,Marrow,Peveto,Brown,Scott,Schlarman,Brumbaugh. I thought Eliot,Peveto,Marrow, and Scott would put us in top 7 alone..but you know a lot better than I do im sure. Guess we will see. As far as rating UK vs a Florida..I think you have to add a handicap..say..UK +25. Florida being the best state for football talent kentucky 25th at best.
I figured with all the changes at Ark,UT,Auburn and the shuffling and leavings at the other schools wed move up by default just a tad. Im still amped at this staff though..there are some very good recruiters here..Peveto Eliot Scott Marrow. THey have reeled in some big time talent for thier previous employers..and have generated quite a buzz here already..in a matter of days and weeks.

Not Josh, but I don't think he meant they rank as the last five. I believe he meant last five hires. That is how I read it.

After re-reading your initial question, no he meant last five in the SEC.

That probably wouldn't be the case if they were at a school not name UK, Vandy, MSU, Mississippi, etc.

  • Nuts to say bottom 5. You have perhaps the two best coaches off of the number 2 defense in the country and perhaps the two best coaches off of a top 10 offense.

Add to that an ace recruiter off of nebraska's staff and i think you have a great staff.

  • A staff with a lot of potential to be very good, let them get two years here and then lets have this convo

    Why so serious?

    morbidky84

  • Where this staff ranks in the SEC is irrelevant to me. What I care about is that so far they appear to be the best recruiting staff that the Kentucky Wildcats have had in a loooong time, and right now that's good enough. Plus we still have two spots to fill! Chew on that for a second!

Who cares where this staff ranks in the SEC right now. Like the above poster said, lets finish building this staff and then give them some years to prove what they can do. I believe Stoops and Co. will get it done in a way that hasn't been seen around Lexington in a long time, or, maybe ever!

    A_Cat

  • We'll have a better idea about the strength of this staff on the first Wed in Feb.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • We need to see baby steps in terms of recruiting. We need to see us getting into the top 3 of players who are considering big
Time programs. Them we need to start winning some of those battles. If we are able to flip/win 2or 3 of those battles this year it will be huge. Our class next year will be the true judge of this staff's recruiting ability.

I want to see 3 juco's this class. D-end, receiver, safety or interior o line.

    hoptownukfan

  • Remember it all starts with atleast 3 star recruits. Most top programs have all players 3 stars with 4s and 5s scattered in. If we can constaintly get 3s on the roster with a few 4s too, that will go along way in competing in the SEC. ( A few 5s would be nice too! pray)

  • I don't think we can tell how good these guys might be as recruiters until the NEXT class. I mean we are coming off a 2-10 year with 2 months to recruit I think it's a little unrealistic to evaluate the staff in Feb.

The reason we care where they rank in the SEC is because we play in the SEC. Our success literally lives and dies based on whether we can compete with other SEC teams. It is very important that UK finds ways to recruit at an SEC level. Otherwise, all will be for naught.
