We should quit looking for the great savior coach and embrace mediocrity. Think how boring it would be to have a program you couldn't rip goal posts out of the ground over about every 10-15 years. If we had beaten Tennessee a few times in the previous 26 years last year wouldn't have been such a big deal. That'd just be crazy. It'd be like rooting for a basketball program that never cuts down conference championship nets. So be thankful we get that generational euphoria when planets line up and can cheer.

Good question, Knot. Football has been bringing in profits of $10-20MM per year for more than a decade while spending a grand total of about $14MM on football facilities in that same time span. We have "private gifts/donations/funds" large enough to fund millions in track, softball, and soccer renovations, if I'm remembering the articles about those improvements correctly. Our basketball players enjoy private lodgings and a private chef as well as "NBA-style" locker rooms.

Somehow, despite the ever-increasing popularity of college football and the enormous revenue potential it has from a wide variety of sources, UK has chosen to hitch its wagon to a sport that produces, when championship level, about half of what a terrible football program generates in a single year in this conference.

I'm curious, Knot, if you know off-hand. How much has USCe's revenue grown due to its renewed focus on fielding a competitive football team, including numerous completed and planned facilities upgrades?

Capiluto was very veiled in his comments. If you listen closely you notice he said two things. A. They have set aside 15 million over the next two years to escentially prove to Frankfort that they can pay for non athletics projects. Because those facilities won't create revenue that's why they have to take that extra step.
When he discussed athletics he said they would "self finance". What does that mean? It means that athletics can "finance" with their own new revenue created by the football upgrades. It's easier for athletics to prove that they can repay debt because the stadium upgrades create more revenue.
Lastly, listen even more closely and you find out that capiluto said they had no specific plans for any part of campus ready to take to Frankfort. Uk is working on requesting between $350 and 500 million in additional bonding capacity. The details have yet to be worked out.

Btw guys. I've talked to folks who have intimate knowledge of the planning process for these projects. Football will absolutely be included.

This was reported in 2010 LDH and I think it is about a $45 million profit now at the end of 2011. In 2000 the profit was around $12 million after coming off a 0-21 streak.The upgraded facilities have really renewed interest at a time when the economy has been tough.Stadium upgrades with new strength and conditioning facilities, new Carolina Walk (formerly the farmer's market), new jumbotron,student-athlete academic center, are all in place with new indoor practice facilities in the works. I hate we lost a very good AD earlier this summer to Texas A&M, Eric Hyman, but he was responsible for the majority of the changes. He implemented seat licensing at the worst time in recent economic history, which riled up a lot of the good ol' boys at Carolina, but he was never one to mince words to start with. He was an excellent businessman who didn't mingle well, but he could raise money with the best of them. Carolina has a $30 million dollar debt cap for its athletic department, and they are very strict with that level.The rest is either coming thru general funds or private donations.There is a stadium expansion model that has had some talk, but I honestly think that it is 8-10 years away.As states we have similar population, public universities, and a bunch of other similarities, but I believe there is a lot more money in KY than SC. What will it take to tap into it?

this is probably another long shot seeing as how i dont know anything about his contract terms or anything like that, but i would love to see UK bring in mark stoops the defensive coordinator from FSU, his brother is a head coach, he is a defensive wizard and runs one of the toughest defenses in the country year after year, and if he was head coach that would give us a connection to florida for recruiting
