I would disagree--you may hire a good coach for 1.5 million--you won't be able to keep him for that, but there's probably two or three guys out there making much less who will some day be hall of fame coaches. The trick is figuring out who they are.

On the other hand, it may take $2 million or more to hire a mediocre coach. If Mack Brown calls up Mitch and says match my $5 million and I'll come to UK--would we do that--I mean, he must be good since he makes all that money.

No proven HC is going to come here unless UK is willing to pay top money. That's what UK has to do along with facility upgrades. No more mediocre coaches, D2 coaches or whomever. UK has to hire a proven coach and that's going to cost money. Nothing more nothing less.

  • This guy is worth looking at as well

Steve Sarkisian - HC for the Washington Huskies

Sarkisian took over a Washington program that won only 11 games the previous four seasons, including an ugly 0-12 mark the year before he took over. The Huskies won five games in Sarkisian’s first season and have earned bowl trips in both of the last two seasons... the first bowls Washington had played in since 2002. The Huskies were expected to drop off following the departure of first round quarterback Jake Locker in 2011, but the Huskies earned the right to play in an epic Alamo Bowl, which they lost to Baylor despite scoring 56 points.

I agree. He would be a great choice. Young and energetic with HC experience. The real problem is it would be a huge gamble with your career to take a rebuild job here where you have to climb over almost every other program in the SEC. He falls on his face like so many other have he could take a step back.
I think our only advantage in the SEC is our location. We need a guy who could recruit an area away from the likes of Alabama, LSU, Florida, and now throw in A&M with them selling SEC in the state of Texas. Our advantage is we are closer home yet still in the SEC for the Ohio and Pennsylvania area. Penn State left a void and we've recruited there in the past.

    8) Bill Cowher
    9) Mike Tomlin
    10) Jerry DiNardo
    11) Elliot Uzellac

.... IMHO.... There is only one option.

    Name a guy who has:

Recently won big on college level as a HC,
Built or rebuilt program(s) into top Ten team,
    BCS appearances,
    No NCAA infractions,
    Recruited Ky and SEC territories,
    Won with 3* talent
    Won with 2* facilities
Is hated by everybody except team he coaches....

    My guy - HCBP.

If he does not end up at UK, I'll be disappointed.
