Who is the real Joker Philips?

    Holy hell, Hotdice, I agree with the premise of this post. Now since I tend to side with tommy and Hop on this I will disagree that we are like the dems. haha. At the end of the day though this post is exactly what one should expect out of the UK fan base. Right now we are a house divided. Some think Joker needs more time and will eventually get it right. I put myself in this category. Some think Joker couldnt coach his way out of a paper bag. Of course everyone has their opinion but the simple fact of the matter is if Joker sucks again this year he will more than likely be gone.

    What most dont realize is Joker is the EXACT person you want leading UK football because it is literally his dream job and no way he ever leaves if UK succeeds. Most of us recognize this and hope for the best. We understand that if Joker can get it right then he is here until he retires. If he gets it wrong though we are just another stop for another coach. Ladies and Gents we need Joker to succeed. We are not Bama, Nebraska, FSU, FL, or any other top tier team. We have been downtrodden so long that to look up means to look toward mediocre. We have been run of the mill the past few years and its been our best stretch possibly ever. If we are to catapult past that Joker must lead the way. If it is an outsider then we are just a stop on the way to the top. Some of you may not believe that but you know what really sucks? We have never been good enough to find out...Let us hope that Joker becomes that special coach for UK.

  • The situation is simple really IMHO. It is obvious that recruiting is better than under Brooks and as far as Joker's coaching abilities it has to translate into wins . No coach keeps his job because he is preceived a good recruiter. that is why I think you have to give Joker a longer leash to make his recruits hit the field. Then if he wins all is well and if he looses then their are no more excuses if he is fired.

    Many want to fire Joker now which makes no sense because the real problems are still their. Until UK or the AD addresses the funding shortcomings in the football program that affect recruiting no coach at uK will make it past 5 yers and it all starts over again. ii wish UK cared as much about football as Joker but thats beside the point.

    First of all, don't post about skills and contribution id you don't anything about either. My posts of simple Anchorman quotes have contributed more to this site than anything you've ever posted.

    Secondly, i did not bring up Joker's 4th down decision at all. Period. I responded to posts claiming Joker wasn't ready or capable to lead this team due to one play. Again, try to get a grasp on what's true and false before you comment, make accusations, or personal attacks.

    Lastly, my last post was somewhat of a retraction of my post before when i made the comment "you and everyone else..." by saying that i would not accuse any specific person, but as there would absolutely been a mass number of fans who would have crucified him. And someone (might have been you..id have to look to be sure) actually tried to comment on my reading comprehension...wow. Many more fans would have crushed him rather be happy he did it. To argue differently is simply lying to themselves. Its the most second guessed give in football...period. Joker was destined to be second guessed regardless. Hindsight is the weapon of choice among negative fans.

    I am no longer going to allow you or any other negative minded (or narrow minded...whatever) poster ruin my enthusiasm towards my team and the upcoming season. I apologize to those worth apologizing to fo allowing myself to fall into the typical baiting and agenda posting.

    I actually feel sorry for some of you "fans" so ate up with negativity and hatred that you can't enjoy a simple game of college football.

  • I can not wait to see us either, we do have a ton of question marks but at the end of the day every team looses players. One thing is certain, now that "T" has left David Turner seems to be leading the way and is in on a ton of good looking prospects... I really hope we can sign a impact type WR, ILB and OT... For whatever reason we have always had problems landing highly touted O-lineman and WR's eventhough our Offense has featured these positions with our schemes.

    landing Jo Jo or Timmons or both would be HUGE. Does anyone know why it seems Timmons is being so hush hush??? I hate to compare but his recruitment seems alot like Dawsons (as others have stated)... If Timmons doesn't choose UK I hope people don't come out in droves saying "I knew he would leave state"... I really like what that kid brings, to say we needed playmakers last year is a major under statement. It seems like back 5-10 years ago it wasn't that hard to go out and find/land 5'10-5'11 190# speedsters. Almost all of our best playmakers the past 10-15 years fit that mold... These days those guys hold much more value and are recruited day and night though... How does Kadeems little brother compare to Jo-Jo or Timmons? GO CATS!!!

    Had an epic debate a while back over music in the Paddock. Jeff still refuses to admit hush crushing defeat. Haha...he's a sore loser. Lol.

    You should have witnessed some of the political wars on the paddock back in the day.

  • The real Joker is "in progress" in terms of head coaching. Joker the person is the same every day. He's getting better as he's relaxing into the position, letting his coaches coach and his players play instead of forcing the action.

    When he can finally get rid of that big doghouse he carries around with him, plays the best players regardless of whether they are on scholarship or not, lets players use their abilities to their fullest (including QBs improvising in the huddle/audibling), and loses the bad poker face, he'll be much better. Other than that, he's a good coach getting better all of the time.

    This year will be a tough test. If the Cats can make a bowl game this year, everybody should give this coach another 3-4 years of grumble and gripe free seasons. We all know that they won't, however. It's not in their nature to commit whole-heartedly to the football program for fear of failure. If somehow they get to a bowl game AND the negative fans can put a lid on it and do commit 100%, Lexington could be the site of a Gameday crew every 2-3 years and really break the minor bowl, glass ceiling that has seemed 2 feet thick.

    The bottom line is that he is a KY kid that still has a lot of KY traits that he will need to grow out of or away from to be the best head coach he can be.
