Who will be the leading scorer this season??

  • I thought Goodwin looked the most aggressive, which led to his scoring, but I still think Wiltjer has a chance to lead this team in scoring if all three big guys can find a way to play at the same time. I think it would leave Kyle with some undersized guys trying to guard him, but I guess he would be trying to guard quicker players on the other end, so not sure that lineup will pan out....

C'mon Shepp... you're kidding right? There's no way Wiltjer has even the slightest chance to lead this team in scoring. Nothing against Kyle... he just won't get enough touches under the basket in transition and that's where most of our points will come from. In a half court set, he will have more opportunities to score... mostly from behind the arc (where's he's become a sharpshooter). Based on what I've seen thus far, I think Goodwin has the best chance to be our leading scorer.

I kind of agree with just about everything you said including Goodwin being the leading scorer. I would also like to throw out Poythress' name as a possibility. When he gets used to the pace and the system he will be even better than Jones was the last 2 years He takes the ball to the hoop like a beast and like we saw in the 1st exh. game he can step out and hit the trey. The 2 big guys are further along than I thought they would be especially Noel since he missed the summer sessions. They cant help but improve everyday by playing against one another in practice, the skys the limit.

  • I wasn't kidding, I think he can be a big time shooter for us. But being the leading score on cals teams usually only means 15 a game lol, they are very balanced. It's a stretch, I probably would go with Goodwin based on the very little I've seen though. I can't wait til Friday either way! Just hope the d is airtight, that will make the early part of the season much less rocky

Yeah, that was one GAME... I thought the question was "Who will be the leading scorer this SEASON??"

Look at some of the other player stats....do you think they represent what kind of season they will have? If so, we're in trouble.

I'm really happy for both you and Kyle, but don't blow your load over one game.

  • Lol. Blow my load? You're funny... Go cats

  • Goodwin. There's really no question. He likes the ball too much.

Don't get me wrong... I would love to see Kyle lead the way this season. I just don't think he will... my money's on Polson now.

    cheers

  • I dont think it really matters who is the leading scorer re:2011-12 team. The whole point in Cals system is to spread the wealth around and have 5 or 6 people who can put up good #s on a consistant basis. That will keep the whole team happy and is what Cal tells all the players he recruits.

  • Just a guess:

    Goodwin ... 15.0 ppg
    Poythress ... 13.0 ppg
    Wiltjer ... 12.0 ppg
    Noel ... 11.0 ppg
    Cauley-Stein ... 8.0 ppg
    Harrow ... 7.0 ppg
    Mays ... 7.0 ppg
Everyone else combined ... 5.0 ppg

  • Goodwin.

  • It'll be Goodwin because he will live at the line. He should average about 7 points on four trips to the FT line alone. Do that and make three FGs a game he's easily at 13 with games he will be over a lot and some under.

With that said, I can see Wiltjer averaging a close second with about 12-14 if he can knock down 2 to 3 threes a game. Which he is highly capable of.

  • I have to admit that Poythress has me just a tad bit concerned early on. He seems to hang his head when Cal jumps on him for something. I firmly believe he will grow emotionally because if he does he is going to be 1 heck of a ball player on both ends of the court and the opossing team will have their hands full when he takes it to the hoop or spots up for a 3. Like the excellent point that someone else made Goodwin will go to the line several times per game and he looks like 1 of KYs best from there.

  • When it all clicks for Poythress he's going to be an absolute monster.

That dunk he had was monstrous. Just wait until he does that with somebody under the basket. SC top play!

  • Its gonna be Goodwin but Wiltjer will be #2. I look for Cal to run some pick and roll with those two at some point in the season. It would be an absolute no win for the defense. Either you show and Wiltjer gets a wide open look or you don't and Archie gets a free look and lives at the line. However I do think once things start to click for Poy he'll be hard to handle too. Louisville fans better watch what they say. He's very likely to get things going right before our matchup with them. So far I've had two Louisville fan tell me how he sucks. They have no clue.

  • If Wiltjer just sits out on the perimeter popping 3's, then he'll be the 2nd or 3rd leading scorer. But if he mixes up down low and decides to use that part of his skill set (like Friday), then he has an excellent shot at leading the team in scoring. I still give the nod to Goodwin by the slightest margin.
