Who will be the leading scorer this season??

  • Really the only reason I give it to Goodwin is because I think there will be games where Wiltjer is simply non existent.

  • Thats why wiltjers post game is so important if he can get 4 8 post attempts a gm he want have those gives us nothing games he is almost automatic in the post. Wiltjer is not just a spot up shooter

C'mon Shepp... you're kidding right? There's no way Wiltjer has even the slightest chance to lead this team in scoring. Nothing against Kyle... he just won't get enough touches under the basket in transition and that's where most of our points will come from. In a half court set, he will have more opportunities to score... mostly from behind the arc (where's he's become a sharpshooter). Based on what I've seen thus far, I think Goodwin has the best chance to be our leading scorer. Yeah, that was one GAME... I thought the question was "Who will be the leading scorer this SEASON??"

Wiltjer had 19, and led the team in scoring.............

Look at some of the other player stats....do you think they represent what kind of season they will have? If so, we're in trouble.

I'm really happy for both you and Kyle, but don't blow your load over one game.

Wiltjer had 23 and led the team in scoring................ Just messin with you Jaw, had to get one last dig in lol...

  • Can I change my pick? lol If I could I'd pick Poythress. But I know I gotta stick with Goodwin(he's beyond terrible at this point).

Just so everyone knows, i think it's pretty questionable who will be the top leading scorer.

The fact is, everyone will have disappearing night. THey all do.

    Top Scoring right now:
    1. Alex Poythress at 16.7 ppg
    2. Kyle WIltjer at 15.7 ppg
    3. Archie Goodwin at 15.0 ppg
    4. Nerlens Noel at 11.7 ppg
    5. Willie Cauley-stein at 8.7 ppg

Not sure I'd make the same assessment about Goodwin. You have to remember he's a freshman learning a position he's never played. He's done pretty good when you consider the circumstances.

Agreed ... and if you look at his numbers through three games compared to Wall, Knight and Teague ... he's right in line with all of those guys. All while moving between the point and the 2 on and off during games on a team with a bigger learning curve than any of the previous teams.

    Through three games:
    PPG - Wall (20.3), Knight (17.0), Goodwin (15.0), Teague (12.3)
    FG% - Wall (55.8%), Teague (51.9%), Goodwin (46.4%), Knight (41.4%)
    3PT% - Teague (80.0%), Goodwin (66.7%), Knight (40.0%), Wall (37.5%)
    FT% - Wall (71.0%), Goodwin (68.2%), Knight (64.3%), Teague (50.0%)
    REB - Wall (4.0), Goodwin (3.7), Knight (3.0), Teague (2.3)
    ASST - Wall (7.3), Goodwin (3.0), Knight (3.0), Teague (3.0)
    TO - Wall (4.3), Teague (4.0), Goodwin (3.3), Knight (3.3)
    A/TO RATIO - Wall (1.69), Goodwin (0.9), Knight (0.9), Teague (0.75)

As you can see, he's right in line with all our other PGs under Cal through three games, and if he continues to improve as those three did (and ends up being our primary PG) ... I think he'll be just fine. If he ends up being our primary 2G ... I think the sky's the limit for him and he'll be a stud.

I dont think it really matters who is the leading scorer re:2011-12 team. The whole point in Cals system is to spread the wealth around and have 5 or 6 people who can put up good #s on a consistant basis. That will keep the whole team happy and is what Cal tells all the players he recruits.

    This.
The scoring will, if the Cats are successful this year, be very balanced...maybe a different guy in front depending on the game, but the season totals will be balanced. It's why this system works.

That's quite alright shepp... I'm loving it! I would love to see Kyle be our leading scorer at the end of the season... even if it means I have to eat a shit pile of crow. lol

I chose Goodwin but also put Poythress' name out there, but I will stick with Goodwin and you have to remember that he is learning and playing a new position PG and that can affect your scoring but when/if he becomes accustomed to the PG spot he will know when to score and when to pass and then you will see a truly great player.

  • To me its pretty obvious that it will be very close between Poythress, Wiltjer, and Goodwin, then a little drop to Noel and everyone else.

If I had to bet on someone right now id say AP, but its gonna be close.
