Who would we want fro Penn St.???

  • If I was Joker, I would be going hard after any O-linemen playmaking wide recievers, and any quality defensive players. (particularly experienced db's)

I don't know what kind of chances we would have, but as far as our offense is concerned, a playmaking wr, and more experienced O-line depth could actually make us competitive enough to put up some big points. Getting a few of these guys, if we get the right ones, could potentially add as much as 2 wins to the season. I sure hope Joker is pursuing it!

Will definitely be interesting to watch!

As to the OP, can we accept any? Wouldn't we still be bound by the hard cap of 25 from the SEC here?

  • They will wander in the wilderness for 40 years like the Jews did when Moses freed them from slavery and brought them out of Egypt a few years back.

Sorry I could not resist that delicious pun.

  • As I understand it, UK signed its complete allotment of 25 for the entering fall class. Therefore, we have no slots open to offer to PSU transfers. If we had one, in addition to any instant help at OL, I would consider Brad Bars on the defensive side and also target his younger brother who is a great OL prospect going into his Jr year at MBA.

That approached would have worked well with the older Biven brother.

  • I would also go after Justin Brown who is close friends with Morgan Newton.

  • NCAA has said if a player wants to go to a school that has reached its limit, they will allow it.

No, I believe provisions were made we would just have to adjust for the following year.

    well thats great news!!

  • I would take a quality junior, maybe a sophomore, offensive tackle and that would be about it. I think taking more could hurt in the long run and a good OT would help immensely this year, IMO.

    Names?
Donovan Smith, graduated 2011, redshirted in 2011, was atop depth chart at LT (after the starter) at end of last season (4 seniors on line)

Yes, we would have to give up a scholly next year to take them, so it wouldn't be worth taking just anyone, but if we can get big impact guys with at least 2 years left, would be more than woth it IMO. If they have 2 years of eligibility left, it would be the same as taking Jucos.

  • It seems kinda slimy to be looking at their roster and thinking of who we should try to lure away from the university during such a tough time. Just my opinion.... Plus, I kinda like guys coming to UK bc they want to be here, not bc they want out of somewhere else...

That's crazy. You are talking about kids who have potential NFL careers ahead of them, that need to put themselves in the best position to foster those future careers. What's slimy is that their coaching staff and atheltic dept covered up child abuse!

Would you prefer everyone else in our conference to get them but us?

  • No, I was more responding to luring them out before they even decide to leave. Maybe I jumped to conclusions if that's not what is being said here. If a player is interested in transferring, then I certainly agree with taking them if they want to come. I don't necessarily think they will have a ton of players transfer, and they will probably do better this year than in the years to come...

  • I assume standard NCAA rules will apply where we can't tamper with their players, but can take them if they reach out to us. That said, there a million ways to let a kid know we wanthim without actually contacting him. Point being, this isn't a situation where the players are recruitable again, at least not until the seek a release.

  • If I was Joker, I would schedule Penn State the next 4 years. Take their players and get some easy wins.

    kyfan09

  • No the standard rules do not apply!! All our staff has to do is fax Penn state a letter stating who we will be recruting, Its a free agent deal with thier players, all it would cost us is a scolly next year. If we're not up there swinging with the bigs after these kids I'm damned if I know why not! Everyone else is!!

Where did you see/hear that? I only heard and read that the players are free to transfer without sitting out a year, not that schools can take the initiative and start recruiting them now while they are still members of the PSU team. I don't think that is the case, as they wouldn't likely even be able to field a team. I am almost certain the player still has to take the initiative to say he is leaving before schools can contact him.

On the radio, they spoke about it and said that current players could transfer immediatly, even if the team they go to is full. I'm pretty positive that part is true. Now as for whether we can contact the kids, or they have to contact us, I'm not a 100%, but it seems like if they are peeling back the rules as far as them transfering, I'd imagine it's quite possible taht we can also contact them.

Yeah Penn State wouldn't do this to us if we were in their situation. :(

Yeah, I saw that teams can go over the 25 limit to bring these kids in, but if you do you have to adjust in the next class. So if you add 2 now and already signed 25 in this class, you would only have 23 spots in the next class.

Thats the way they are saying it works.

  • Lexington Herald Leader's John Clay is saying that he is personally aware of 1 SEC program that offered 4 PSU player yesterday morning by 9:30am. The sanctions weren't even announced until 9:00am. That's just one program, but it probably applies to every school in the conference. That is just another example of how aggressive the coaches in this league are.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • An ESPN article mentions that teams must contact PSU if they are interested in pursuing one of the players. This article was in reference to USCal going after their RB Silas Redd.
