Whoa, Royce White trashes Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Big difference.... Ron Artest is stupid, Royce White has an illness. He'll work it out.

I think White will be the steal of the draft. He is a unique talent. 275 lb Jason Kidd.

I agree with all that Chris said.

Don't make excuses for him. He's a punk. A damn good basketball player at that, but a punk nonetheless. Having anxiety issues (whether it is REALLY an "illness" or not is debatable) does not make you commit crimes, talk sh*t when it puts you out of line, etc. I assure you he will be trouble in the NBA.

As someone who struggled with an anxiety disorder in high school (panic attacks and the like) I can assure you it is very much an illness and can be exceptionally debilitating. I don't mean to be obtuse about it, but it is really not for someone who has never dealt with an anxiety disorder to be flippant about it.

But I agree, I highly doubt it had anything to do with his criminal behavior.

Ford, Draft Express, and NBADraft.net all have him going to Boston at either 21 or 22

No excuses, in today's age he should probably know better, especially before a draft to say things that can even be interpreted as trashing another player. For all I know he's an asshole.

But totally separate from Royce White, I do believe anxiety is an illness. I've seen some of the kindest people crippled by it. There are people who would replace it with physical ailments if they could.

I have a feeling he's going to sneak up toward the top half of the first round.

  • White needs a coach that won't put up with the mouth and will instill some discipline in the kid. I know a team that needs a new young big man. He won't fall this far but this kid needs Pop.

As for his comments I don't know. I disagree with him but I don't think it's as crazy as everyone else does. I'd be lying if I said that during the year when watching MKG I didn't think the exact same thing from time to time. I think he'll be a solid starter but I don't think he'll be a yearly all star. I will pull for him more than any other UK player since Tayshaun Prince.

I don't think anyone is saying that MKG is going to be a perennial all star but I do think he's going to be a long term pro starter and very solid.

How does Royce saying he's a man and MKG is a boy have anything to do with whether or not MKG is a perennial all star? MKG isn't hyped, in fact in most cases right now he's being hit on by people not named Chad Ford for his jumpshot. The Lakers, whom I hate but are a winning program, are in the process of trying to trade into the Top 5 to get a shot at MKG. I'll go ahead and say MKG is going to have a much better and more fruitful career than Royce does. That's the homer in me but while I think Royce is the more complete offensive guy he's also 2 and a half years older than MKG and doesn't play with nearly the effort. MKG has already shown more maturity and much more man like qualities than Royce ever has making Royce's quote even more of a joke.

Thing was until the last couple of days I really liked Royce. His comments and spoiled child attitude with this and things he's said to Ford and some of the other draftniks have really rubbed me the wrong way though

  • He held his own against Kentucky (23 points, nine rebounds) in a 16-point loss to the
eventual champs. (He said he believes
Iowa State would have succeeded had
Davis been forced to guard him straight
    up the entire game.)

The kid is cocky, that is for certain. He has made a lot of mistakes in his life. I hope I am wrong but I think his mouth will get him in trouble again.

I love that if Davis had been forced to guard him straight up line.....Davis never guarded him that entire game. For the most part it was Jones and MKG. They didn't overly pressure him and just let Davis try to bother his drives. IF is a huge word but if Davis had been on him he'd have never gotten a good look at a jumpshot either.

  • Royce White is a headcase and will be playing overseas somewhere in 5 years while MKG is still banking NBA paychecks. White is a good player but he isn't an all-star and his mental issues won't be tolerated unless he is putting up All-star numbers and I don't see that happening. I foresee a lot of DNPCD in his career.

He failed to realize Davis didn't guard him but rather Jones and MKG. We tried to slow him down but were more concerned with making sure nobody else could beat us cause we knew he wouldn't.

  • MKG may be one of the few players out there that is deserving of hype. Because nobody plays harder, works harder and does it all, all the damn time like MKG. If you wanna call somebody out why don't you call someone like Drummond or Barnes out. Talk about guys who aren't deserving of the hype. If they had 1/10th the heart of MKG they'd be two of the best players ever. MKG is still very young. I would never in a million year say that a guy with his kind of work ethic and motor can't do anything that he wants to do. And I think its pretty obvious he wants to be a great player. Playing hard all the time and working hard on your game is a skill that only the greats possess.

Severe Anxiety like panic attacks, constant worrying, the kind of anxiety that makes you sick to your stomach like you're about to ride a roller coaster for no reason is definitely an illness. Apparently Royce suffers from that kind of anxiety but that has nothing to do with what this thread is about and the comments Royce made. And even severe anxiety as well as panic attacks are treatable with therapy and meds. People overcome severe anxiety everyday.

Isn't he the guy that rode 900 miles in the car with his uncle to get the game.

Then, after a quick meeting with MKG, had to turn around and ride 900 miles back. I can see how that would get on your nerves.

    Post of the thread. Lol

Cockiness seems to be the common thread among the greats though: MJ, Bird, Kobe, Lebron. Just kind of comes with the territory IMO.

Not saying that White is going to be a great. Just saying high-level players always seem to have that confidence/swagger.

Cockiness yes but did you ever hear those guys call out anyone in the media in anyway? Cockiness and trash talking is fine but you do it on the court or privately not in the press. When The Jordan Rules came out and showed what an ass Michael was privately it's been rumored that Jordan literally threatened Sam Smith's life because at that time he was so beloved and never showed that publicly.

Royce making disparaging comments about another player specifically just doesn't make any sense.
