We've had less punts blocked recently then under the previous coach. But we also so our return games fall off drastically.
The recruiting ascpect is huge, Every one says Butch Jones has strong ties to GA and Fl but I don't see better recruits committed to UC than what we currently have. Would he be able to recruit that much better?

I agree with the OP, which is why I am worried about the rumors that Mitch is focusing his search on the Pac 12, Big 12 and NFL. I know that is where his connections are, but that does no good if the coach he hires has little to no recruiting connections with high schools in the deep south.

The head coach does Very very very little recruiting. It's about your staff when it comes to recruiting. Whoever he hires in terms of their geographic location right now has very little effect on recruiting (it might help to have a hc with some ties). What matters is who that coach surrounds himself with in terms of assistants.
Greg Roman could bring in some good "southern" assistants and have a heck of a brand to sell. So could anybody else...

Agree to disagree. But that simply isn't true. Head Coaches don't have the time and the ncaa actually restricts the amount of time a hc can spend on the road. Recruiting is 80% about assistants, 20% about the head coach's ability to lead the staff (keep them motivated and organized) in recruiting.

Regardless of who UK hires, one thing is an absolute must. That coach must surround himself with PROVER recruiters that have terrific ties to two states.....Florida and Georgia. Those 2 states alone can and will determine the success of UK building a competitive roster. It's not Ohio. It's not Texas. It's not Louisana. etc....
Strong and UL showed us that SEC caliber Florida kids are more than willing to play in the state of KY. UK started making a consistent effort to the recruit the state over the last year, and the results have been very promising.
Georgia....we don't even need to touch on that. Everyone knows that Georgia is the backbone to UK recruiting success/failure.
If they bring in a staff that doesn't have serious ties to those 2 states, UK will be buying out another coach and staff in 3 or 4 more years. It's that simple.
