Who's Your Starting 5??

  • Lots of talent to go around. . . interested to see peoples thoughts on this. . .

    Teague
    Lamb
    Miller
    Jones
    Davis

Kidd-Gilchrist, Wiltjer, Vargas, off the bench and maybe Beckham or Poole also getting some PT

  • I think you guys might be right, but I'm gonna mix it up based on a hunch:

    Teague
    Lamb
    Gilchrist
    Miller
    Jones

Davis might end up being the most talented guy, but Gilchrist brings so much to the table with effort and energy on both ends of the floor. I see it difficult to deny him.

The big question may be whether you bring Davis off the bench or use Miller, even though he's a senior, as your 6th man.

  • Miller as the sixth man. Davis and even Wiltjer have way too much talent for the bench.

Agree I was wondering the same. . . I think that Miller would probably be able to handle that role a little better than some of the younger guys as well. . .

    Teague
    Lamb
    Kidd-Gilchrist
    Jones
    Davis

lol, That is A LOT of talent on the floor. . .

  • I'll go:

    Teague
    Lamb
    Kidd-Gilchrist
    Jones
    Davis

Right there is one exceptionally talented starting 5, with some bad mamajamas coming off the bench in Miller and Wiltjer. It'll be interesting to watch!

  • I think you have to start Davis. I don't think Cal would want Jones getting in foul trouble trying to guard centers.

My five: Teague, Lamb, Miller, Jones, Davis

I think Gilchrist gets just as much play as Lamb and Miller, though. And I could see Gilchrist playing some 4 when we go small. He's a nice guy to have coming off the bench b/c he can play the 2-4.

Good point on the versatility. Miller is like that, too. They can use either of those guys at 2-4. Lots of options for Cal.

  • Mike and Darius are two similar players, imo, both extremely versatile. Miller can play 1-5, and Gilly can play 2-4 as Chris just mentioned. I can only imagine the battles that are going to ensue in practice.

  • So many options(dont ya love it) but my 5 is Teague
    Lamb
    Miller
    Jones
    Davis
Gilchrist,Wiltjer,Poole(seems determined), Vargas and Beckham playing off bench

  • And with Cal the 6th/7th man can even play minutes like starters

Great point. It will be interesting to see who the "finishers" are IMO more than then starters.

  • Oh forget it. This team is so loaded a starting five is irrelevant. it's not who starts but who gets the minutes in crunch time, who is playing when the game is on the the line. (hopefully, Poole, Beckham, Brown, etc. are playing at the end of the game- 1/2 time.)cool

  • I'm not sure you can have Darius as 6th man, he seems to play better when he starts then coming off the bench. I see Kidd-Gilchrist being the 6th man - I love the thought of bringing in all his energy and effort off the bench. Kidd-Gilchrist could easily sub for either T Jones or Darius (Maybe even Ant in a pinch).

I am intersted to see how we use Witjler off the bench. GBB!!!

I think we will see a similar team to those Cal had in his last few years at Memphis... Winning by 20 a game. Of course there will be some exceptions like KU, UNC, Vandy, Florida and maybe a couple of others, but if this team clicks early it's gonna be a blowout type year. So there may not be much crunch time IMO. I think the main difference you have with Miller and Gilchrist is Mike is a high energy, defensive minded stud who is better around and attacking the basket. While, Miller is kind of a facilitating point-forward that can shoot it better from outside. So I think who is in the game depends on what Cal wants at that point. JMO.
