Wide reciever recruiting

  • There's an article up on the Orlando Sentinal's recruiting page from Monday where Badet say's UK still has a slight lead in his recruitment. So I guess we still have a hope of getting him.

  • If he makes UK a perennial top 15 20 team why would he leave. Can you imagine how good of a class we may have next year with a little success. We will probably finish at worst top 35 this year if we fill out with all plan b recruits. Next year we lead for the number 1 d/t qb and a four star rb/lb.

  • Here's who I think we end up with:

    1) TE - Borden
    2) RB - Thomas
    3) RB - Kemp ***
    4) QB - Reece
    5) WR - Blue
    6) WR - Yancey
    7) WR - Timmons ***
    8) WR - Montgomery ***
    9) OL - Meadows
    10) OL - Meyers
    11) OL - Day
    12) DT - Hyde
    13) DT - Reed ***
    14) DT - Peterson
    15) DE - Smith
    16) DE - Bell
    17) DE - Meant
    18) DE - Hatcher ***
    19) DB - Hytchye
    20) DB - Willis
    21) DB - McWilson ***
    22) DB - McClain
    23) LB - Clark ***
    24) LB - Kelsey, Jr ***
    25) K/P - Macginnis

That would leave Dowdell, Boynton and Bodkin on outside looking in, but, it definately fills the teams needs with some very high quality players with several guys with the ability to play various positions... No Woulard, Senat, Alexander(s), Samples, Badet, McCary, Gibson, Turner, etc, etc, but, don't feel too bad, because this will still be a top 25 class and in year 2 and 3, look for these guys along with the current 2nd and 3rd year players to be the centerpiece of something very special..

If he's more like his older brother Bob, he'll be for a long time. If not, we should be very much improved to where getting a good coach will be an easy sell again

Good point morbid! Also..lets think like this...IF Stoops does what I think he can here at UK..turn us into a SEC contender..we go bowling on a yearly basis..a BCS bowl once every 4-5 years with some major New Years day bowls mixed in with the "down"6-7 win bowls...he will be treated like a GOD here..instant legend. This..along with if UK matches any incoming offer as far as dollars..I dont see Stoops going anywhere for a while..if ever. Why leave a place you are treated like a King to go somewhere if you have a bad year or two they will replace you? Auburn? Chizik won it all..then 2 years later hes history.
UK will treat Stoops like football royalty..the fans will treat him like a God..as long as he keeps us in bowls and an occasional SEC East crown!

I agree with all of what you have said and believe me i want all of this and have been dying for good UK football for a long time but I guess i'm just in the mindset where coaches go to a school, build it a little and then bail out after success to large football programs with a long history in that sport. I really do hope you have the correct opinion in this btw lol because i'm a huge football fan and this would be awesome!

The one fact that we have in our favor, can you name the last coach besides the BEAR, that left for a better job?

I think Badet's offer from Clemson came Monday night so I hope that did change that train of thought toward UK.

It is so hard to tell right now, there are so many combinations to fill our needs. But, I like to guess too! We flip 2, Hatcher and Samples. Timmons decides not to wait and pledges to the Cats soon. Kemp or McCray at RB. Reed rejoins Brumbaugh and Smith. Clark at LB, and that does it.

I would be very happy with this list. I also think it is the most accurate guess out there with the exception of Samples. I just don't think we can flip him. I would add Woulard to this list.

His older brother also went to a football first, tradition rich program in Oklahoma. I'm not saying it won't happen at UK, but the history/tradition of OU is more appealing than what UK has to offer.

With both Clemson and UCLA interested now, it puts our hopes at an all time low I would think. Hopefully he will remember how he was treated on his visit.

I love UK, but I would go to UCLA personally. I went out there with my job, and the campus is just SICK. I have been to over 100 college campuses in my day, and UCLA is definitely top 5 if not the best I have ever been to.

  • While I think UK has a great shot at Woulard, I think are chances have decrease a bit since last week. While he would be a great addition to this class, he's not really a need at this point but you take him if you can sign. Only way I think we take Badet at this point if Timmons decides he wants to slow play this process and wait for the elusive Ohio State offer. I really believe UK will offer Maka this weekend to get some more big bodies on the OL, he's basically like Peterson where he could play DT or OL depending how he matures. I believe we get Kemp if he's ready to take it, if not, I believe McCray is the next man up. I don't really see Stoops over signing in this class, you don't want to take any spots off when you are more and likely in on some big time players next year. This is all JMO so, TIFWIW

    Why so serious?

  • I know I dont make the decisions..but if I did..I would up the pressure on Janarion Grant..wr 6'0 180 Dade City,Fla...this kids highlight reel is eye popping. Speed and elusivness really stands out..his acceleration is inhuman..and his balance is Barry Sanders-like..just watch his video..kid is playing in Florida and just blowing by people..even mocking a few. Try to count the tackles he breaks on that 2nd punt ret...I lost count.
I know its just a highlight reel..but the kids video is more impressive than most 4 star wr's..and the kid does it all..wr/rb/cb/s/kr/pr. If we fail to land Samples..Id think Grant would be one Heckuva consolation commit!!

  • Depending on who we get at the other positions, we we take at least two and maybe three of the following players:
    Ra'Shaad Samples
    Ryan Timmons
    Alex Montgomery
    Jeff Badet
    Janarion Grant
    Donald Gage
    Christian Cumberlander

  • Anything new on Montgomery? Didn't he visit last weekend?

  • Being reported on the other site that the staff is going to give Fred Tiller a look at WR. He was recruited as an athlete and if I recall many thought he would play WR last yr. My guess is it depends on how the class end up on the 6th as to whether he gets that look or not. I do recall he was pretty explosive on the offensive side.

    msdcatfan

  • I think he & Harmon (who was recruited as a WR) should both get looks at WR!

  • Depends on if we get mackensie Alexander. If we do your starting corner are Willis and Alexander. With Quinn, Harmon, Mclain,Hytche,Dixon,Blaylock as depth.

I see the same guy saying that on other sites but I have failed to talk to anyone with UK connections that can confirm any players will be switched at this time before they sign this class of kids. Plus Mackensie has ND interest now, that may be a downer for us. Some said that was the reason he didn't make the visit this last weekend.

Dang! They can offer way more fake girlfriends than us. We are screwed!
