  • Got some not so good news for you guys regarding Andrew and his future. It is sounding like IF Andrew reclassifies in 2013 he will prob not end up being a Cat. If he waits till 2014 it sounds like he has no problem being a Cat. Also heard that now Bill Self is getting involved in his recruitment and is supposed to be making some sort of contact this week. Obviously anything can happen but this is up to the minute info I figured would like to have. Wish it were positive info but it is what it is.

  • Are you the poster that is friends with Huntington Prep's coach?

  • Yeah, thats him. . .

  • Yes. Roy Williams is now visiting him in Huntington on Tuesday. Kansas was not even recruiting him and met with him at an aau event and are now players.

    DRPfor3

  • Interesting. Thanks for the info. Still find it hard to believe Cal misses on him. This info does cause quite the twist considering the source. It will be intriguing to see this develop.

  • Why would he not come to UK if he reclassifies?

My only guess would be that he wants to be "the man". . . not gonna happen at UK. . .especially in 2013.

  • Because Andrew wants to be the man I suppose? Cal asked him wanted to be a big fish in a little pond or a big fish in the big pond? Originally he said that would be fine to play with other guys when Cal came to visit Andrew on the day when the Harrison twins signed and now is starting to think of other options. I guess if he waited till 2014 it wouldn't be quite as stacked as 2013? Things should get interesting.

  • I hate to tell Andrew this, but if playing with other elite players is an issue then Kentucky is not the place for you. I can understand his perspective, but that simply is not going to happen. Kentucky is in the position to reload each and every year with elite players. He can choose to win and play with elite players or he can choose to not do so hot and play by himself.

Fact of the matter is, Andrew is the best player in the country regardless of class. He is going to be the biggest of fish wherever he goes, so why not improve even more at a place like Kentucky by going up against Julius Randle, Marcus Lee and James Young every day in practice? Being able to defend James Young and Julius Randle both would be an incredible attribute to have when he eventually puts his name into the NBA Draft. Jarrod Polson is a big fish at Kentucky. lol. Kentucky is Kentucky. You do what you do and hundreds of fans are going to name their children after you, let alone know who you are.

If the NBA is your ultimate goal, then there is no other place like Kentucky. Period. Sure, you probably have the talent to play in the NBA without Kentucky, but you could also be better and have a longer career by being prepared. Do you think Xavier Henry would've liked to have been at UK now? What about Will Barton? I'm biased, but to me it is an easy decision. Kentucky Blue is the only color for you.

  • Wiggins is too smart with too smart a group of advisers for this non-sense. To me, this sounds like a smoke screen just like we have seen with every top recruit we deal with.

If any of you have read his coach's past interviews with several different people this wouldnt be a big surprise because frankly Im wondering why it has taken this long for some coach like Self to get involved with Wiggins. His coach has almost begged other coaches to get involved with Wiggins recruitment. I think Cal will still get his man but it might get more interesting that it has been.

  • Josh excellent post and I totally agree with everything said. It is tearing me up as he was the one that I was looking most forward to seeing in the blue and white. I sure hope someone changes his mind but it sure isn't looking to good. Cal said the exact things you were saying also. And said year in and year out as a UK player you are going to be playing with other very talented players. If that is not for you then that is not for you. As Cal has said many times Kentucky is not the place for everyone.

    DRPfor3

  • Trust me Jam it is no smoke screen on this one. Wish it were man but its not. In fact Bill Self was kind of amazed that Kansas was able to get involved as they had already given up knowing that Cal and UK was involved with him. This is why Kansas is visiting and UNC is coming to see him on Tuesday. Def not a smoke screen. Go CATS!

  • What r the odds he stays in 2014 class??

    esupp24

  • This is hard information to believe only because its been known for a while that he was more than likely going to either UK or FSU. If he really does want to be the man then he could still come to UK because he will shine along side the others. To me if he stay's in 14 he's coming to Kentucky if not he's going to FSU, UNC , KU coming in sounds like to me his coach wants a little more media attention on this recruitment. Calipari has put a lot of ground work in on this recruitment he's not going down without a fight you can count on that, and the truth is I just don't see Wiggins going any place else except FSU or UK, KU is too far away and if he doesn't want to play with other elite players then he wouldn't pick either of UNC, or KU both will have great rosters just like UK.

    wildcatfan440

  • Well Wildcatfan believe it because it is straight from the horses mouth. There was no reason to spin on this information from myself or Wiggins or fulford. It's not like I am an important guy that has a blog or website that they are trying to play games with. Take it for what it is worth. And how is Kansas to far compared to FSU or UK? Lol. The kid is coming already coming from Canada and has more frequent flyer miles then any of us. So that is not an issue at all in this recruitment. I understand this is not the info we were expecting with everyone saying it is a two horse race with UK and FSU. That is why I wanted to get this info to you guys. Just how quick things can change in the wonderful world of college bball recruiting.

    DRPfor3

  • Great question about what year he ends up coming out. If he stays till 2014 I will be completely shocked. The kid is already bored out of his mind with his current level of competition.

  • I believe that so why hasn't he already reclassified? What is he waiting on here either he's staying or leaving and if he's leaving do you actually think UK is out of the running with him? Its hard to believe with all that Cal's done recruiting him that he is out when UNC, and KU are just now trying to get in with him.

    wildcatfan440

  • You guys may know more than I do, but I just can't buy that if Roy and Self are just now starting to get in on Andrew that suddenly UK is totally off the radar for 2013 and it's likely that he's not coming here in the end. Just too much ground to make up in too short a period of time for me to buy that.

    Just my opinion.

  • IF he wants to carry the team on his shoulders and have most plays designed for him to shine then he is not UK material. Moreover, if he is afraid he would not outshine all of our other recruits, then he is not cut from the Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, etc cloth. He can join another school and never win an NC (because he would have to play against us, the players whose talent he fears.) Still, I hope he comes to his senses and makes me buy his UK and NBA tshirts. welcome

  • UNC has been in the hunt for awhile but hasnt been hot and heavy but KU is a new player. But just because there are new schools in the hunt doesnt mean KY is out of the picture so lets just wait and see what happens because which ever way it goes we are going to be just awesome in 2013.

  • UK recruiting:

UK gets mentioned with top player
    UK offers top player
    Top player loves UK
Top player starts getting close to commitment
Top player is suddenly mentioned with new school
Rumors abound top player is now leaning to new school
    Top player commits to UK

    Rinse
    Repeat

Wiggins will be a Wildcat no matter what year he comes to college.

  • Cousin your welcome. Hopefully I will have some more info after his meeting with Roy tomorrow at 415...

    DRPfor3

  • Im not worried at all. Wiggins is very similar to MKG, he has ALWAYS wanted to play for Cal and that hasn't changed. FSU is in there due to the family connections. Chances are very slim Wiggins ends up at a school that is not UK or FSU.

You will hear UNC continue to be mentioned to keep up the suspense but they are not a real player. There is a 95% chance Wiggins plays his college ball at UK/FSU. That's the feeling that comes from the Canadian side of things.
