Well Wildcatfan believe it because it is straight from the horses mouth.

Did it come from Wiggins mouth? He's the horse, not his coach...just sayin.

As far as I know coach Fulford doens't have much pull with the Wiggins recruitment. It's the parents and the Canadian guys(whom Cal has a very very good relationship with).

  • Another thing to keep in mind, during this whole recruitment(that UK has arguably led for) Wiggins was WELL aware what players UK was recruiting/going to get. It's not like UK blindsided him with the Harrison/Young commitments.

Good point, but what I think it will come down to is how bad Wiggins wants to win a national championship. With the team the cats will have in 2013 its going to be very difficult to keep them from winning it all but if you look at the team that Kansas will have that year even if Wiggins goes there they wont win it so it makes sense that he would want to play for Cal and do what AD did this past season.

  • After reading the scout.com interview with WIggins(from today), I REALLY am not worried, He is just playing the recruiting game. Even MKG did this and he was ALWAYS going to play for Cal. That's just how this stuff works.

    Ioannis

  • Maybe he's doing it so his teammates get more exposure.

  • I think its more that he's wanting more attention for himself. He's not been recruited and his name isn't out there like Randle, the Twins, Gordon etc. He is the best player regardless of class and to act like he's afraid of competition just doesn't add up for me. He wants to be recruited by the best and that's fine but if he goes to UNC or KU there is still talented players at both schools that he would have to play with. As far as UNC just look what Roy done to Barnes he cost Harrison a lot of money and like I said UNC has a lot of talent just like UK. He is going to have to compete no matter what school he choices unless its FSU. Talent level there is no where what it is at UK and the others. Calipari isn't going to lie down here I know that and nobody should think because UNC or KU get involved that UK is out. This is happening a lot here lately and it really is a pattern if Calipari is leading then we are in great shape with Wiggins. Heck like I said he's going to be a great player in college and playing at UK would make it a lot easier on him than going elsewhere.

Had heard this may be coming, BUT I would not get too worried about it. Nothing has changed on UK's position with Wiggins. The only two schools that have even been recruiting AW for the last year has been UK & FSU. There is a reason that is the case and a reason no school has wanted to get involved. I know Wggins is "saying" he is wide open, but if he was really wide open why had he never said this before or had other schools recruiting him??

The bottom line is if a school like KU, UNC, OSU, SYR didn't perceive to show interest in the #1 player in the country don't you think their fans would get a little pissed. Roy, Self, whoever has to show the "interest" in him if he is throwing this out there, but it is nothing more than a big game.

  • loannis wish that were the case but not at all the same situation here as MKG. Wiggins has ZERO ties to anyone here, I mean he is relatively close at the moment playing ball in Huntington but that is where it stops. I am telling you guys there is not a 95% chance that he plays his college ball at UK, maybe FSU, UNC, KU and now if you guys read the article that was written yesterday by Evan Daniels you will see that everything I said prior to that interview was in fact correct. Trust me I am the biggest UK fan in the world, of course that is prob debatable with you guys. LOL I want him at UK like crazy as the kid is unreal. The way things have shaken out with the 2013 recruiting class have changed Andrew's mind on playing at UK with the others. I didn't get to read the article that Evan wrote yesterday but he was in Huntington yesterday and did a one on one with him. I do know that he openly says in the interview to Evan that he is now talking to UNC which isn't a shocker as sleepy had said earlier and also KU. The crazy thing he says after listing those two is that he wants other schools to start recruiting as no one else was because they had gave up knowing UK and Cal was involved with him. Pretty crazy stuff. Oh yeah and he is also listing Syracuse and Ohio State as well. Anyway you guys have a nice day and hopefully sometime this evening I will have some info about his visit with ole Roy that is supposed to take place in Huntington this afternoon at 415. Go CATS!

  • Thanks TGH, I know I don't normally have the great recruiting news that some of you guys have but on this one I am in the know. I will post as I hear and thanks for all of you posts on here with your recruiting nuggets! On this one, I understand it is hard to believe but it came straight out of Andrews mouth that he will not be playing at UK in 2013, take it for what it is worth.

So you heard him say this or is this what his coach told you? Then why not drop UK from his list instead of stringing them along?

  • Two things, I did get to read Evan's article and it wasn't as doom and gloom as depicted in this thread. He says that he wants to play with other great players, that he wants to win a title and that his ultimate goal is the NBA. That's Kentucky.

It does kind of concern me that he is telling all of these other schools to recruit him all of a sudden. Maybe he does want attention, but it is just kind of odd for him to openly say "hey, start recruiting me."

Guys, I mean if you read the Wiggins interview with Evan, and then go back and read what DRP stated a couple of days ago, what more proof do you need that DRP got his info from AW

    cousincarl

  • That's too bad. I wonder if it's because he feels it's going to be too crowded at UK? Is it because Young committed? I wonder if he thought Cal would hold Young off until he sorted out his reclassification?

Isn't there a video on the net where his brother says he told him he should go to UK?

  • DRP there were zero ties to anyone at UK for MKG as well. His main tie to anyone was to Wes but he knew he wanted to play for Cal so he was coming. According to a lot of people Wiggins has said privately he's going to play for Cal regardless. And yes Nate his brother said he should play at UK.

I'm like others I feel like this is him playing the recruiting game. He's adding schools to his list to add some suspense for whenever he makes his decision. If it's UK or FSU there's not a lot of suspense there and by adding KU and UNC, which there have been rumors of for a couple of months now on and off, he adds suspense to his decision. This has happened with every recruit we've been ready to add not named James Young for the last year. Kid gets close to a decision and then stuff starts coming out through coaches and AAU guys that UK won't be the choice to deflect the attention. Everyone of them except Shabazz has worked out for UK and I see no reason to think it won't go the same this time.

DRP I have no doubt you have a good source on this one. My opinion is though that source is releasing exactly what Wiggins and his family want him too. I know UK still feels extremely good about their chances.

    allenctynimrod

  • Nate great points and that is kind of the issue at hand. 1st and foremost as you all know and have seen against the likes of Julius Randle the kid is NOT afraid of competition. Cal told him the normal talk of what do you want? Big fish small pond or big fish big pond? And as usual I will throw out the typical disclaimer that he is very young and has parents that are involved in his decisions. I would also never count out Cal but in this particular situation he has made it pretty cut and dry that he will not be at UK in 2013 as of right now. Once again thanks cousin for the props. Not very often that have a close connection to something like this but at the moment I do. I know how much I like to have up to the minute info on the recruits that we all follow on here so I am just trying my best to keep you all updated with what I hear straight from the source. No spin. Go CATS!

All the other schools he's asking to recruit him will have more of a logjam at SF than there will be at UK.

  • I have no doubt that DRP is legit and providing us with good info. I certainly appreciate him posting as I'm sure the rest of you do as well. Thanks DPR.

Wiggins is most certainly playing the recruiting game here and coach Fulford is just repeating what he is being told. Wiggins is not going to turn his back on UK/Cal who have been recruiting him longer and harder than anyone else. It makes no sense that he would be so opposed to go to UK in 2013 but is a lock if it's 2014. The SMART decision for Andrew is UK whether it's 2013 or 2014 and his people know it. I would really be FLOORED if he chooses a school that has been recruiting him for a couple of months over a school that has been recruiting him for years and oh by the way that school is at the top of the college basketball world and is the best school for Andrew to accomplish his goals(Championship, development,NBA). I wouldn't trade UK's chances for all the other school combined.

Wiggins is the next great hope for Canadian basketball. He is the lead dog of what is going to be the golden generation of Canadian basketball(Wiggins, Bennett, Thompson, Joseph, Wiltjer, Lyles, Nicholson to name a few). It's good business and brings attention to Canadian basketball to keep up the suspense. I am almost certain this is a factor. It's not everyday that Canada has the best basketball prospect on the planet. They are going to milk this for all it's worth then he will choose FSU or UK.

If he comes in 2013 this would be the other guys at SF/PF at the schools

Kentucky: Young, Goodwin/Poythress (think 1 could come back), Randle/Roberson (think we'll have 1), Wiltjer (maybe)
North Carolina: Hicks, Hairston, Tokoto, Brice Johnson,
Kansas: McLemore, Traylor, Ellis, White, Greene

It gets even muddier if Wiggins wants to be a 2 guard. Mins will have to be spread at any of those schools and if it's seriously a thing were Wiggins wants to be the man by himself of the schools he's looking at the only option is Florida State. If he goes there so be it.

Wiggins will have the 3 locked up at Kentucky, no matter who is there imo.

I agree but he'll still be sharing minutes anywhere. Young will play some 3 at UK but he'll also back up the 2 but there are guys like that at every school on his list except FSU

It is admirable of Andrew Wiggins to help his teammates get more looks from high level colleges.
