Wiggins, Randle, Gordon, and now Dakari Johnson....

  • All of these 5 stars available for the 2013 class! How many schollies do we have left? Is it true that Florida and Texas lead for Randle?

Can you just imagine getting 2 out of this 4?!?!

    docjmrmd

  • We will get 2 of the 4. Wiggins and either Randle or Gordon.

  • IF everyone with pro potential goes after the season (and I know that's the big IF ... but I'm including Noel, Goodwin, Poythress, WCS and Wiltjer here) ... then we will only have 2 returning scholarships used for next year ... plenty left to go around. I agree with Carl that we'll get 2 of the 4. And don't count Florida or Texas as leaders for Randle as a sure thing.

Why not add Johnson to Wiggins and Randle/Gordon? We dont have a true post up big man in this class and maybe he is reclassifying to be part of a championship team?

How many schollies do we have!!!?

well, if you have even talent match up having that post up player would be good, but

When you have overwhelming talent and athleticism. our 1-5 will overwhelm opponents. Practically Wiggins/Randle are both good enough rebounder that we will probably be the best rebounding team anyways.

There isn't much of need. I actually want Johnson also, but it's doesn't really matter.

I want NBA size, would like to see an NBA sized and athleticism on one team in every position. Would be very interesting. (lotto style)

It'll be according to how many on this years team leave early. We have plenty to add 2 more.

There is no way Cal will bring in more than two more players even if everyone leaves. He is not going to play more than seven guys significant minutes and bringing in too many top-level recruits is going to lead to one or more of those guys sitting a lot. That could lead to unhappy players and could disrupt team chemistry.

The only way I see Cal signing Johnson is if Wiggins is the first of the four to sign and Johnson wants to commit. He might very well take Johnson and end recruiting right there even though Randle and Gordon are more desirable and better fits for Cal.

The biggest domino in all of this is Wiggins. Once he decides, the rest will fall into place pretty quickly. If he were to commit soon I could see one of those bigs jumping quickly rather than waiting until spring. But as of now it appears that we just need to be patient with regard to recruiting and enjoy THIS season.

    Not true.
    Wiltjer stays:

    7 player rotation
    Marcus Lee
    Julius Randle/Aaron Gordon
    Andrew Wiggins
    Andrew Harrison
    Aaron Harrison
    James Young
    Kyle Wiltjer

    Derek Willis
    Transfer du jour
    walkons

    If Wiltjer leaves:

    7 player rotation
    Dakari Johnson
    Julius Randle/Aaron Gordon
    Andrew Wiggins
    Andrew Harrison
    Aaron Harrison
    James Young
    Marcus Lee

Dont worry there will be plenty of scholarships, remember the walkons that were given scholies it was for 1 year only so theres plenty to goaround. Ithink its highly more likely if we get Wiggins the only other player that is a possibility is D. Johnson. I dont think we can get Wiggins and get Randle or Gordon but getting Johnson to use as a pure center prospect is possible since Lee can play the 4 or 5 spot and Wiggins can play, well any spot he is needed at. If Wiggins goes elsewhere then getting 2 of the remaining 3 wouldbe possible especially if we get Gordon then Johnson becomes even more possible. Something else about the scholarship situation Cal could do what Pitino does is ask the players whose families can afford to pay their sons way to give up their scholarship but it wont come to that unless like other people have said that players from this year comes back and I think Wiltjer will be back at least.

  • I am not worried about how many schollies are available,it's who will be filling them..RV, you said not true Wiltjer will be back..Wiltjer is not a center and plays very soft..
None of the trio of Randle,Wiggins or Gordon could guard a center like Plumlee or the kid from Indiana or the 7 footer at Kansas..Need I go on? Some of these kids will go
pro or graduate but another will step in..Wiltjer could not guard any of them..Zeller would kill Wiltjer..Cal needs to develop some depth and play more than 7 players..Just check
the success of the 1996 team and the minutes played by the starters and that should answer your questions..
Let me say this...Toward the middle end of Cal's first season we were starting to gel and destroying some teams..We had great depth at every position and were obviously the best
team in the country at the end of the year...Had we had Jodie Meeks on that team,I would venture to guess that we might have gone undefeated that season..He would have been the
shooter that we thought Dodson would be..

  • I trully believe Hood, Polson, Harrow, Wiltjer and Cauley-Stein will all be back next year.. IMO, Poythress, Noel and Goodwin will be the only 3 to go to the draft and then we lose Mays to graduation.. 3 of those 5 will be in the rotation next year, so, I really don't see us adding but 1 more and even then, Cal will be going 8 deep or even 9 deep, even though that's not his M.O. Just too many good players that'll have to see the court. The good thing is, Cal has shown a great ability to play to his teams strengths, depending on what he has available and next year, one of those strengths will likely be having quality depth and he'll find a way to make that depth pay dividends..

    PG - A.Harrison/R.Harrow/J.Polson
    SG - A.Harrison/J.Young
    SF - A.Wiggins/J.Young/D.Willis/J.Hood
    PF - K.Wiltjer/M.Lee/D.Willis
    C - W.Cauley Stein/M.Lee

    That's a pretty solid 11 players..

If Florida gets Johnson or Randle, the other won't go to Florida. They already have Chris Walker, and I think that may be a little too crowded for their liking. I'm thinking right now, UK gets Wiggins then Gordon/Randle which may completely depend on what Gordon does, if Gordon picks UW, I think Randle will consider UK even more. I know Randle has a good relationship with Billy Donovan, but I'm just not buying this Florida being the leader for Randle talk. I just can't see him at Florida, and again, if Johnson goes there, there's no way Randle does too.

I believe that whoever commits first may very well determine what the other 3 may do. There are a lot of variables to c onsider so it would be very difficult to try to figure it out. Like if Wiggins commits first and its UK then I just dont think Randle or Gordon will come here, but on the other hand if Randle commits 1st then I honestly dont know what to think about What Wiggins might do and so on and so on. See what I mean about variables being plentiful. Its all a guessing game at this point. Lets just hope it works out that we get 2 of these guys and at the worst 1.

I think if Wiltjer and Cauley-Stein return, then, yes, I only see us getting one more and imo, both guys will return and should.. Wiltjer still needs to mature and get stronger and work on his foot speed and WCS is still very raw and needs another yr to get stronger and develop some post moves. Although I do believe both would get drafted, I think Wiltjer would be a mid to late 2nd rounder and WCS a lower 1st rounder. By returning, I think both these guys could work themselves up the board with Wiltjer being a late 1st rounder and WCS likely a lottery pick, possibly even Top 5...Alot of difference in money and especially in Wiltjers case, guaranteed $$..

Even though others aren't as confident about Wiggins anymore, I still feel pretty good, especially after the game yesterday at Scott County. If I was forced to predict, I'd say we'd probably end up getting Gordon and Wiggins.

I said not true to the quote I addressed and then posted two scenarios. 1st with Wiltjer returning and the second with him not returning.

I still think we have a really good shot at Wiggins I was just pointing out that there are some factors that may lead him to KY I feel that Wiggins himself knows that UK is the best place for him but like I said his parents have a lot of pull and Wiggins really respects and cares for his parents and I dont think too many if any know how they feel about which school is best for Andrew. I am pretty confident that if Wiggins commits 1st then Randle and Gordon go elsewhere although I really do hope Im wrong.
