Wiggins may commit sooner than most think

  • After reading the article I am linking to this thread I have come to the conclusion that the pressure is really getting to the young man about his decision of where he will play next year. I think he will make his decision known before the end of the college season and maybe as soon as the end of Feb.. I also think he will choose of course between UK and FSU with the winner being.......................? After reading this article and all the rest Im just not sure which team will get his services for 1 year. I hope he will choose UK but FSU is also in good shape with Wiggins and I know a lot of you will say Im crazy or ignorant in the ways of basketball recruiting so go ahead but keep in mind that I really do want him here at UK but I have to look at things realistically and I also know that UK would be the best spot for him to come to enhance his NBA career but this kid is special and also different than most young men out there. So take a look at the article and see what you think.

  • He'll probably still commit around March/April. I do like UK's chances though. I remember his brother was interviewed one time and said he thought Andrew should go to UK. I'd say he has the support of his family to choose honestly. I mean, I know their son (aka the brother I referred to previously) Nick is a Junior at Wichita St, and has went through the recruitment process, so I think the family understands they need not to pressure Andrew, and that it's his decision. Maybe it's just optimism, but I feel good about UK's chances.

  • Sounds like Ky to me..

  • His dad or whatever can push for FSU all he wants, but when signing time comes, can he really be convinced that he's pushing for the right place? UK makes waaaaay too much sense here. We'll see what happens, but we are maybe one player away from being absolutely disgusting next year. Should be fun because I feel pretty freakin confident we will get Randle or Wiggins or both.

  • If that's the case, he needs to focus on something other than basketball. The NBA is not going to hide him.

  • Personally, if he is only going to play for 1 year, he should choose Wichita State and play that one year with his brother. It really does not which school leases his service. He will be the first pick and be moving on before he learns the campus.

    Dorm, class, gym, cafeteria, repeat.

Borrow money from a pessimist -- they don't expect it back.

Unfortunately thats the way it goes with the NBAs players association 1 year in college rule. Until they realize that the best thing for both the NBA and college and especially the young men is for the Players association to let the HS seniors either declare right after graduation or sign with a school and have to stay there for 2 to 3 years before declaring. That way the elite talent would get to the league if they choose to go or the colleges get them for more than 1 year. But I dont see them changing the rule in the near future so the one and dones are here to stay for a while at least.

Yeah but with us, he might take a NC ring with him to the pros.

I'm still not sure what you say is best for the kids. A 2 or 3 year rule would be best for the product that is college basketball but not necessarily best for the players. We've been through kids leaving straight from high school before and it worked for some and miserably for others. We also know the drawbacks financially of kids being ready to leave after only a year but having to stay a year or two longer.
