Rumors are going to run rampant right now. I've not heard anything about that from sources close to the team. But you're probably going to hear tons of that stuff.

Thats what i figured, people usually get too worked up and start thinking too much about certain words spoken or comments cause they're in a "the worlds gonna end!" mood. I still think people are being too hard on this team, these guys are typical freshmen from a down recruiting class.

Well, common sense would dictate that he be looking elsewhere-where will his minutes come from next year?? He'll be back to the # he had as a Frosh-if that...

I had speculated that Kyle might look to transfer with Johnson, Lee, Randle and Willis coming in - especially if Poythress and/or WCS choose to return as others have specualted. There were whispers last summer that he might look elsewhere had UK added anymore frontcourt players. If he were to leave, a school nearer his northwest roots (like Oregon, UDub or Gonzaga) might make sense.

Also, if any player is going to transfer, then after their sophmore season is a prime time to do so. You've had two seasons at the original school to see how it works out and two more to play at the new school after sitting out a season) if it doesn't.

Again, sis just speculation on my part of a possible scenario for Kyle, not based on anything substantial. I'm not trying to "push him out the door" either. If he wants to stay, more power to him if he wants to finish his career as a Cat. I have a feeling though that competition is going to increase quite a bit over the next couple of seasons. If he wants to play significant minutes, someplace else might suit him better. As much as I like Kyle, I'm not so sure he'll ever be able to play the kind of defense or rebound as Cal demands and that may limit his court time greatly as guys come in who can play more solid interior D.

Methinks thou dost protest too much! (Translation: The difference between speculating in your MIND and posting that speculation on a public and popular forum shows you DO want to "push him out the door"!) At least be honest!!

  • There have never been credible rumors on wiltjer. Not last year and not this year. He may well transfer but people on here don't know

Correct. Wiltjer will see PT next year even with the incoming class. He will see so many open threes he'd be stupid to leave. No one on here knows. I recall last year that "those in the know" said Hood would transfer despite what his dad was telling people locally.

Not in the least. Like I said, I can see him leaving because he reportedly considered it last year and next year's competition seems like it may be even greater. I'm saying I can see him going, not that he needs to go. I do think that his defense may keep him from seeing as much court time next season. Whether a more Hood-like existence on the UK bench is more preferrable than a redshirt year and two seasons contributing elsewhere, is up to Kyle to decide.

If we get Randle or either WCS or Noel return, Wiltjer won't play any more minutes next season than he did in 2011. His role on next year's team would be as a spot up 3-point shooter coming off the bench for at most 5 min per game. IMO Kyle Wiltjer is the #1 reason this team has underachieved like it has (Cal deserves blame for this too because he had opportunities to add better PFs like the guy from Rice or the kid from UCF and he didn't try...also the whole Twanny Beckham scholarship thing which didn't work out and cost us Jarnell Stokes). If you look at Wiltjer's per-minute stats, he has made no improvement over last season. It's clear he's not willing to put in the effort it takes to get better either since we've seen that he didn't transform his body at all in the past offseason. If Kyle really cared he would start working out and eating with Erik Koerem and try to look like Patric Young next season, not waste his time playing one minute of pick up ball this summer, which does nothing to improve his defense and rebounding deficiencies.

  • I hope he returns. We need some veteran leadership on next years team. As highly rated as these kids coming in next year are, there's still alot of uncertainty about how they'll adjust to the college game. Look at this year, even before Noel got hurt, there were plenty of games we struggled and it's not like AP, AG, NN, WCS weren't all very highly rated coming out of HS and the reason, imo, no guys returning with any playing experience. Wiltjer was it and he only averaged 7-8 minutes a game.. I'm hoping Wiltjer decides to return along with Polson, Hood, WCS and Harrow, as well. I think AG and AP will still be 1st rounders and I don't think there stock will improve that much by returning and NN is definately a lottery pick, so, those 3 are likely gone. WCS is likely a mid to late 1st rounder(15-20 range), but, he has the potential to be a Top 3 pick with another year so that could be big for him.

Wiltjer's time and minutes are up to Wiltjer. I have seen more desire to make videos and have fun than commit to getting better on defense. If he wants to play and start, then he has to put in the time to get better on defense.

I would love to see him come back with Karl Malone like shoulders and faster feet so he can bang in the post. Right now he has Reggie Miller's shoulders and feet of clay.

If he can improve his defense there is no one in the country that keep him off the floor.

  • That may be true but she is right in this thread. No one on here knows Wiltjer's intentions on transferring because there is no way he's made those intentions known at this point.
