  • I was at the Auburn game 2 years ago and enjoyed their video board. Auburn's board is 30' x 76', which is very comparable to the proposed deminsions for ours at 37'6" x 79'. I think that having 2 boards this size would be excellent for Commonwealth and will look impressive.

  • That Auburn board is very nice, but I did notice from the Daktronics website that the Auburn board is at a higher resolution (HD12) than what UK has spec'd out (20 mm).

  • Very interesting. Can anyone confirm that a contract has been awarded? To whom? What alternatives accepted? For what Lump Sum Price?

I'm not sure they would just publish that info on their own, some reporter that wants the scoop may have to make an open records request for it.

Also see 24. Explains why this isn't as easy as some have made it out to be. We're dealing with an older structure. Not necessarily just putting up boards. Might have to make some major changes to the structure including drainage to accomodate ribbon boards.

It's the newest stadium in the SEC. Other's seem to overcome facility challenges even though they were built in the 30's.

I can see why some vendors would be annoyed - it's 108 pages of boilerplate, and about 9 pages of details. The vendor will have to submit a very carefully detailed bid laying out exactly what work they will do, and will not do, else they could be left holding the bag for some items they did not anticipate.

As fas as the dimensions for the ribbon board, it almost looks like someone from UK measured one side and one endzone, but forgot to double it.

a lot of comments were asking for UK to clarify what that wanted. The control room was mentioned as possibly costing $200k or $1M depending on needs.

  • Is the Audio system going to be on One End or in Stereo??

judging from the RFP it's going to be surround sound. I'm not sure why we only have speakers in the West endzone operational. If mentions that only the West end has power but they have power capabilities in the East endzone.

    It's going to be great.

I can't wait until Fanday and we see these two scoreboards, the ribbon boards, and a sound system that is clear and audible.

  • Can we get an update on this?

It has also had virtually NO renovations since built outside of the enclosing in the late 90's. It was neglected for decades and now we want a perfect stadium. All of those stadiums that you mention as being older have been "kept up" and had things added year to year whereas ours was neglected by previous administrations. But I'm sure you'll blame that on barnhart too.

nope. I've said as much many times that Barnhart is the best AD we've ever had.

  • Anyone have any updates on this? The date tentatively scheduled for the awarding of the contract has passed. Wonder if the contract has been awarded or if they are close on that?

    Jeremy Grey

  • The contract has been awarded but it is awaiting final signatures so it cannot be released.

  • You da man, James. Thanks for the response.

    Jeremy Grey

  • No problem. It's my job, haha.

Hopefully it'll be ready to be released in the next few days. I, for one, am very curious.

  • I'm curious, too. Hopefully there will be a release with the plans. Would be nice to have some plans on display with the talented prospects visiting the football facilities for camps over the next week and a half.

  • Is the contractor mobilizing and getting ready to start?

  • There's a regular meeting of the Post-Secondary Council today - I wonder if they have to rubber stamp the project even though no school funds are being used?

I can't imagine any contractor who would mobilize without all the t's crossed and the i's dotted. Too risky. The scheduled starting date (in the RFP) is June 15.

  • Two days away from the June 15 starting date. No plans to be seen...

and all references to this project have been removed from the UK purchasing website. The Wildcat Coal Lodge is still on there but maybe that's because that contract hasn't been awarded and the scoreboard contract has. However, the Track and Field work is on there still and it's in progress.

May have to do with the funding sources. I don't know that but that could be the reason.

If it's been removed it means that the contract has been awarded. They don't have to post the actual contract or who is doing the work. Just the bid specs (which were already posted). This actually means that the project is probably either underway or close to being underway.

    good.

I just couldn't figure out why the Track and Field stuff was still there given they are well underway with the earthworks presently.

There is a re-bid on part of the T&F project.
