Would it be so wrong to say "Hell No!" to the NIT?

  • If they earn a bid, they should play the NIT. And they should give big time effort and hope to win the tourney. Anything less is a disgrace. I am turned off by those who feel that we are "too good" for the NIT. Sports is about competing, doing your best. I would expect Calipari and the players to give 100% effort to winning every time they step on the court and I would expect them to want to compete in any opportunities they have for post season play.

I would even be proud of an NIT championship, even if it is not worthy of mention in same breath with NCAA accomplishments. For this team, frankly, it would signify a major improvement. Right now, even after victory last night, they wouldn't go far how they are performing. Vandy is worse than nearly all the NIT teams will be.

  • This all may be a mute point anyway because if they continue to play as they did last night then they are going to win several more this year.

  • Really? was this an honest question?

You play all the games you can. IF this team slips to the NIT then damned skippy they should take it. The team needs the experience!

  • That would be insane arrogant...even for UK. Think we are hated now? Try turning down an NIT bid... especially when we are obviously having a down year. You never turn down additional practice and additional games...simple as that.

The above "VIP only" posts, is a prime example of why previous and potential members are turned off and turn away from this site... those "blocked out" interruptions are frustrating for those who have kept up with thread discussions. No one wants to join a site where they are so disrespected.

How can people decide whether or not they want to join, if they can't read through any "NON-VIP" OP Threads? Most people prefer to surf these kinds of sites for a while, before deciding to become a subscriber or not..... they read/post in NON-VIP threads to see what board member discussion, participation, attitude, maturity levels, etc. are like. How can they compare 247/CP to other rival sites, if they have nothing to go on... or worse... made to feel so damn unwelcome, disrespected and ignored?

This is also a primary reason why separate football and basketball forums are necessary... if anyone is serious about growing this site.

FYI... it's exactly why (after being a member for almost 2 years), I canceled my VIP membership status. I sided with the NON-VIP'ers who, potentially, could have been paying VIP'ers in the future... I didn't (and still don't) appreciate how they were (and still are) being treated on this site.

Change your ways and you might win some of us back.... not to mention, the possibility of attracting many other new members.

Btw (to strengthen my argument with another example)... I have two brothers, who have made several attempts to participate on this site (at my request and due to all the great things I had to say about it), but quickly got turned off, disgusted and turned away every damn time. They finally had enough of the BS and chose to stop visiting... and opted to stay with Rivals. How sad is that? Two years ago, I couldn't imagine anyone choosing Rivals over this site... thanks for making a liar out of me.

The staff does it intentionally. It is a strategy to get people to join. Very similar to the used car saleman bait and switch.

No they don't. Most of the times it is completely unintentional.

247sports is a little different than most sites.
It has an option after the comments section to " Show post to CatsPause subscribers only icon" making it VIP.

Some people have that otion selected automatically and whenever they post it turns the thread into VIP. It happens more often with posts from cell phones/mobiles.

Believe me I know how it works. I was VIP and cancelled because it is silly. You have to intentionally select VIP to change a free thread to VIP, and the staff does it all the time. The do it for "bait and switch" type of sales approach. Its naive to think otherwise.

Not trying to argue, just stating facts.

  • Big Sarge, you are stating your opinion and nothing more. Don't think that your opinion constitutes facts in any sense of the manor.

When they add something that isn't public knowledge they select to make that post VIP. IF the next person posts without unchecking the box then the post following that become VIP also.

Why is it so silly? Hell, you can't even view threads over at rivals on the HOB unless you're a paying member. It's not like 247 wants you to pay an arm and a leg to see all the posts. And before anybody goes off about the economy and bills etc. etc., most people could find at least ONE thing to cut back/give up to afford a membership on this site. I'm not knocking on anybody thats not a member, but seriously there is so much WHINING on here about VIP crap that it's gotten ridiculous. Some people can't be happy unless they can find something to complain about. JMO
