Wow! David Williams being interviewed tomorrow about UK bonding

Kentucky Sports Radio will be interviewing David Williams tomorrow at 10:30 am to discuss the recent controversy about UK athetics bonding. Apparently Sen Williams requested the interview after UK and Barnhart's recent public accusations that he and the Senate are the roadblock to UK getting additional bonding rights and ultimately football having the ability to upgrade facilities. Should be goooooooood.

I agree... it should be good.
I just hope they ask the "HARD" questions... any idea who's conducting the interview?

I doubt it. Williams is a lifelong politician. Like most of the others he makes his living by getting his talking points out there and skating around questions he doesn't want to answer. I'd be very surprised if much of anything gets clarified.

I know absolutely nothing about Kentucky politics, but from what I've read about David Williams on various UK message boards, I would agree with this.

Matt Jones is an admitted liberal democrat, so Williams wont be given much of a pass

Williams is going to talk about how uk has too much debt and how the state can't afford more. I doubt jones has the where-with-all to press Williams on why the legislature won't Seperate the university's bonding capacities from the state.

^ What I'd hope to hear is an explanation on why allowing UK the ability to bond its own projects would be detrimental to the State and its credit as a whole (if at all).
I tend to look at it rather simplistically like Barnhart did in his interview with Matt Jones. Can/will the agency generate the revenues to comfortably service the debt. When looking at UK's Healthcare with the new hospital and/or UK Athletics with a CWS rehab (as a member of the Southeastern Conference), the answer is clearly yes.

The improvements to CWS would pay for itself, so I really don't see the problem with getting the bonding.

The issue is that it counts towards the state's bonding capacity. There are no other schools in sec that have that arrangement.

Jones is actually asking tough questions. Williams essentially says: if there is dedicated revenue (e.g. revenue from suite sales, higher priced seats etc) that will pay for the renovations he would support it.
No proposal has been made to legislature outlining the dedicated revenue has been made.
Barnhart hasn't discussed anything and never talked to him about new renovations.
BOT shouldn't have unchecked bonding authority without General Assembly oversight as they come and go and debt stayed.

I have to say, I have respect for Williams for standing his ground on certain things and saying without questions, if the Athletics Dept can support the bonding and the revenue shows that he will support a renovation.

Thanks for the comments guys since I can't hear it. Sounds like Williams is addressing this single request. Isn't the higher issue simply giving UKAthletics (UK?) is on bonding capabilities?

Interesting. Part of me understands the logic. The other part of me wants to compare historically who has made the better financials decisions, BOT or State Gov.

In my opinion, that's the big value in Mitch going public with this and stating his view. It has essentially brought it into visibility and perhaps, put public pressure in the right places to make it happen.
