Wow- more conference expansion on the way??

  • What was thought to be just a rumor last night is sounding more like a "done deal" according to various media members......Maryland from the ACC to the Big 10. UL fans will no doubt build up their hopes that the ACC invites the turds ro replace the terps. Already some talk that Rutgers could be the #1 replacement candidate, which would cripple the big east even more.

  • If UL leaves do you think we can get in the Big East? We could keep Joker and still win 6 conference games a year which would put us in the Orange Bowl vs UL instead of playing them at the beginning of each year!

    I know you were just joking ... but keep in mind that beginning in two years with the new playoff format that the Big East is no longer an automatic qualifier in the new 'BCS' structure and the Big East champion is not guaranteed a spot in the playoffs or a BCS bowl bid.

  • The acc does not take metro commuter schools. The acc has some outstanding academic schools. Louisville does not fit at all. Rutgers makes a lot of sense. Very good school on a tv market from heaven.

    Are you saying that Rutgers is more of an appropiate choice for the ACC than UL in both football and basketball? I just cant see how you can say the Rutgers sports programs are superior to the UofLs sports programs. Speaking of the TV markets the UL basketball team is ranked every year and their football team has come a long way and is ranked this year and both have coaches that will keep them there. Speaking of a school that would be a fantastic fit in the ACC UL would be that school not Rutgers.

  • I could see UConn clamoring for that spot in the ACC, as well. I agree, UL isn't the type school the ACC would look at from an academic standpoint. If the NCAA somehow put the clamps on NDame getting a free pass in football, then they'd also be a great fit to become a fulltime member and not just a basketball member.

    You don't understand how the process works. University presidents, not athletic directors make these decisions. Uofl was a better fit for the big xii and they said no. Worse fit for acc and they have nd lined up and would rather have a good academic school with a big tv market.

    This isn't about w's and l's. it's about $$$$$

  • I have also seen on Twitter that there is building sentiment from some Big 12 schools (read Not Texas) to expand back to 12 teams as so to get a conf champ game back and the revenue from it.

    TV Markets have nothing to do with the quality of the athletic programs. Rutgers is in Northern Jersey, which is one of the most densely populated areas in the country. Louisville, not so much......

    The ACC broke away from their "academics first" mantra when they caved to the pressures of football and added FSU. Was that a one time deal?

  • If the big ten does take Maryland then they would be looking for another school as well, right?
    So they would definitely look at Rutgers. The academic and tv market profile would be off the charts for the big ten, they would love for Michigan and Ohio to come play in that media market.

    So that leaves the ACC looking around for another team still. Assuming the big 12 doesn't come looking for a couple of teams to compliment the west Virginia expansion.

    I could legitimately see Louisville as a pick up for the ACC. Especially if the big 12 takes a team or 2 from the ACC. I don't think the big 12 will take them, too many other options that would move the needle and $$$.

    ACC may take a developing UCONN over UL,

  • There is no way that UL gets in the ACC. They don't have the academics. Rutgers fits much better and makes sense.

  • Why would the big 10 only expand by one school?
    They will take another if they take Maryland. So who would they target as well, Rutgers of course.
    So remove Rutgers from the discussion and lets discuss who else the ACC might take.

  • Speaking of $$$$ Maryland would have to pay $50,000,000 to change conferences, man thats a lot of $$$$ considering they have dropped some secondary sports because of financing problems.

  • Remember, the acc has Pitt nd and Syracuse coming next year. They don't have to bring more teams in.

    Right. But b ball and other sports play into this. Acc likely won't take other teams if Maryland leaves. If they do, they most certainly won't take Louisville.

    UL will neaver get a bid for the ACC ever, ever.

    The ACC voted on the 50,000,000 buy out price not to long ago and Maryland voted against it but lost and the ACC included it in its bylaws.So any team now that chooses to leave the ACC will have to pay the 50 milllion bucks. Google it and you will seee that it was passed. I have seen it mentioned on several different national sites in articles about teams changing conferencesand about UL in the ACC Im only saying UL would add more quality competition to the ACC than Rutgers would. I have no idea if and where UL might go in the future.

    Anyway Lville would not help the acc in the football since, Strong will be out as soon as ark as him to leave.

    Lville brings only basketball to the table. No much else. football is up and down
