Video of flagrant foul no-calls at basketball game goes viral | Prep Rally - Yahoo! Sports

Read 'Video of flagrant foul no-calls at basketball game goes viral' from our blog Prep Rally on Yahoo! Sports. Connell (Wash.) High's Cole Vanderbilt was relative unknown in the basketball world, but all that changed two days ago, when a viral YouTube video turned him into one of the most hated players in Washington. (If you do not see your comment right away, please be patient) Thank You. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connell basketball players acting like they're on the football field. The referees allowed these fouls to occur the entire game. Not a single technical, intentional/flagrant foul was ever called. The W.I.A.A. needs to take a closer look at this before a player suffers a serious injury. Each foul is replayed (in order) at different speeds multiple times for closer review. The video speaks for itself...

  • I am not sure all of those all flagrant or intentional. But number 5 should of been immediate ejection. The coach said of the player he really is just a big teddy bear in an article i read yesterday about him. Some of those fouls in were just hard fouls but at some point the refs should of started noticing the high number of hard fouls and ejected him.

  • Every one o those fouls were flagrant except MAYBE one, where the guy pushed the other player out of bounds.

The first one wasn't that bad, the second one was borderline. #3 was intentional and not clean, #4 was intentional and not clean (he just shoves the guy in the back!),. #5 should have the guy suspended, that's terrible.

Any word on if #34 has scholarship offers from Cincinnatti or WVU?

  • I don't know which was worse 1) The refs 2) The players or 3) The coach. The refs allowed this to go on. #5 should have been an automatic ejection. The players knew what they were doing. In none of those were they going for the ball. I believe a team is an extension a lot of times of the coach. I think this definitely was the situation here. Hopefully with the publicity the school district, administration does something. I teach my players to play physical but not with reckless abandon for sportsmanship. Big difference.

Exactly what I noticed. I see refin' in all age groups as being horrible today. They let kids get way too physical especially when players are driving to the basket. If we clean the game up we would see what a great game basketball is. It is artistic and fluid not a knock down drag out fight.

They have allowed "defensive minded coaches" to slowly infiltrate our game with hand checks and bumps and little grabs. A defensive back in the NFL can't even grab a reciever anymore and we let many defenders in basketball get away with murder. I don't mind a bump with the body here or there but its all the tripping and grabbing that goes on that slows everything down. See UK and UL game for example.
