Young defense looked good tonight.

  • Lets give some credit where it is due..to our silly young but steadily improving defense. Zach Blaylock can sure hit..brother Daron is a freakish athlete at 6'1 215. Cody Quinn looks like a budding star at cb..ditto for walk on JD Harmon. We held UGA to under 80 yards rushing..a surprising feat. Given time to develop..this young defense could be a stingy unit in 2013. Injuries have killed Uk this year..I think we win at least 3 of the last 6 had Max Smith ben our QB. We were a bad roughing the kicker call away from beating Ga tonight. Kudos to our young defenders for not giving up or giving in.

  • We gave up over 400 yards passing x. We have some nice athletes in the secondary but you don't give up 400 yards passing and not get a t.o. Amd "look good" on defense. Our offense did a nice job of playing keep away. That's why they didn't have 500 yards passing.

  • Check Dawgs Total Yards for the game? What injuries are on the defensive side of the ball?

Max Smith is not the answer man.

  • They not only looked good, but they played very good. Once the secondary gets some more experience they should be a solid defense. A ways to go yet, but way to go guys!

Simpson, Lowery, Cobble, Rice, Forrest, Neloms, Benton have all missed games this year and are our most experienced guys at their positions. The OP was not talking about injuries happening during THIS game, but how the injuries this year have forced highly talented but totally inexperienced players into the lineup. The results are that they have NOT learned how to play from LISTENING to coaches during practice (as their bonehead mistakes during games show) and we are not likely to have success this year. However, seeing their failures on film week after week will allow them to DRASTICALLY IMPROVE and learn what they need to have success IN THE FUTURE (ie the rest of this year and in the years to come). This team will be greatly improved next year and will be competitive against all but the truly elite teams on our schedule. Smith AND Towles will likely "platoon" next year cause each brings something unique to the QB position and will give defenses "fits" trying to adjust to two styles of play that are BOTH successful.

Absolutely, bro. After seeing this defense blossom and the offense turn the corner, I just don't see any possible way that UK doesn't win at least 9 next year. Right? The 2013 team is going to be sick!!!!

  • The defensive line and linebackers played well. The secondary played like crap. Zero pass breakups. On most completions the defense was more than 3 yards away from the receiver. You can't win games like that.

    bigbluerules

  • Why do some of you just insist on being total asses. It's nice to see a defense shut down at least one aspect of an offense. That is a plus. You don't win if you can't stop the run. So yes that is something to at least recognize. Ky also got off the field a little better. Finally having a QB that can keep the chains moving is a huge benefit to any defense. To say otherwise is completely ignorant. No ky isn't winning 9 games next year but they haven't quit this year either.

  • there is some young talent on this defense hopefully the new regime benefits from this years experience

  • I agree with the OP but what surprised me more is how well the offense did against a good team. Especially so if one considers that Georgia knew we had no deep passing without Towles. Go Cats!

  • I don't know how any defense can look good giving up 29 points, 504 yards of offense, 5 of 12 third down conversions and creating no turnovers. Our bar for looking good is incredibly low, like on the ground.

Thanks jim...nice to know not all posters are debbie downers. Our defense played well vs the dawgs. Anyone not seeing that dosent understand football. We held backs avg over 7 yards a carry vs SEC teams to around 2 yards a tote. Ill take that any game. As for 400 yards passing..our secondary is comprised of five true frosh and a sophomore..and take away 1 blown coverage for the 67 yard score..and 1 more for 40+ and we held them in check. Im talking about all the 3 and outs we forced. If not for a bad call on the running into the kicker we win this game. WE had to force a 3 and out and DID..the refs just let them off the hook.

  • So now that we are playing better based on the Georgia game, does that mean we will win 3 more games? If we do I am all for keeping Joker but some on here need another reality check I guess.

All that matters is that UK is 1-7 with Vandy, Missouri, Samford, and Tennessee left to play.

  • Nobody predicted anything. Certainly not that Joker will be back or that he deserves another year. Just a poster taking a moment to praise some young players that have worked really hard in a very difficult season. Seems to me that posters who pay the exact same monthly fee should have the right to post their comments without having the thread high jacked by some who just can't get over themselves and their believe that life is all about trashing people.

Exactly, the team never showed up for the Arkansas game which was on tract to be perhaps an SEC record beat down. It only took us 2.5 quarters to give up 500 yds against the Hogs. If that is the bar we are trying to clear then job accomplished. If we want a defense that looks good then we may want to shoot for a little more.
