Zeke Pike dismissed from Auburn

  • Will not return, according to coach Gene Chizik. Disappointing outcome for a talented kid.

  • He may have bigger problems than just being a young bad ass. That family needs to get together and get him some help.

  • Sorry if this is a silly question, but does this year count as one of his "5 years to play 4" if he decide to play college football?

    UKFlounder

  • Not sure how summer school counts if he was taking classes at Auburn. I would guess he would try Cincy or go prep school if he wants to play this year at all.

  • Alot of people on here predicted this. Hope he gets it together.

Yup he enrolled at Auburn so that started his clock. He could sit out this year and just use it as a red-shirt year.

There may be some kind of waiver he could get to play this year but I think Auburn would have to release him from his LOI.

  • He wouldn't have to be released from his LOI if he was dismissed by Auburn, dismissing him releases him. We do not want this kid if that's what some of you are thinking though.

  • I hope he lands on his feet and gets his life together. I'd hate to see Pike waste the talent he was given.

NO WAY!!! Wasn't thinking that in the least!! We made the wise choice in going full blast for Towles and not Pike, and now it seems that our decision has been validated AND MORE

  • Pike and Louisville.

Many laugh but it would not surprise me if he doesn't end up at Louisville especially if Bridgewater flounders.

The kids a mess and Louisville is just what the doctor ordered.

Hummm are you sure of this I know he enrolled in summer classes but does that count since he neaver practiced. And also he was not there for the start of the reg season. ??????

Since he did not practice might help him out HUMMMMMMMM ? we will find out soon enough.

  • I don't want him at UK, but I just wondered how much this dismissal may have affected his career in terms of how long he has left to play once he finds a new school (assuming its the FBS level or whatever I-A is called now)

  • I've not followed Pike. What happened? And how is his life a mess right now?

Yes, once he enrolled (even though it was just summer classes) that starts his eligibility clock of 5 years to complete 4. Practice doesn't matter whatsoever.

Being enrolled at Auburn also means he will be a transfer student. That means he will have to sit out this year (he can count it as a red-shirt year) unless he transfers to a lower division program (ala Michael Dyer who left Auburn after getting dismissed and went to Arkansas. State).

IIRC Pike had a couple of incidents while still in high school (think he was already committed to Auburn at that time) and got suspended during his senior season including their first play-off game.

Then during the spring I believe there were a few things he put on twitter (just antagonizing Bama fans) that got him in a bit of trouble with the Auburn coaching staff. Then after enrolling at Auburn he was arrested for an alcohol related incident (this was at least the second alcohol related problem he had). With Auburn having already signed another big name QB prospect it wasn't a surprise they cut Pike loose.

Hopefully his parents can take this year he has to sit out and they'll get him some help. If he can get his stuff together and stay outta trouble he could still have a good career somewhere. He has the athletic ability to be a big-time player if he can just get a handle on the maturity side of life.

  • He originally committed to Auburn to play for Gus Malzhan, so Ark St seems a likely landing spot

Agreed... But you can't fix 'stupid'.

See Stephen Garcia.... Kid had every club in the bag, except the mental part. For QB, it's everything. This kid maybe a better TE prospect anyway.

But you can fix "immature" at least sometimes, and maybe he's more immature than "stupid" (maybe not, too, of course.)

Maybe his plan was to get dismissed from Auburn so he could goto Ark St. J/K

Maturity shouldn't be an issue with an elite talent, must of had poor handlers. Sad to see kids take this path. May have cost himself millions.

  • I know I'll be in the minority here...but I wouldn't be opposed to Joker giving him a second chance, albeit with an extremely short leash. I wouldn't mind Joker giving Zeke a chance to walk on and earn a scholly...under the premise that if he breaks even one team rule, he's done. Also, under the premise that he is changing positions. TE/DE would be a likely position.

I know it's not the popular opinion, and I know it's HIGHLY unlikely to even be in the realm of possibilities. But he made a few mistakes, the same ones a lot of teenagers make. Yes, he's in a spotlight and needs to be mature, but it happened. He didn't abuse anyone....isn't peddaling drugs or running any other scandalous operations. Just my opinion of course.

  • IMO Auburn was sorry that they offered him late on but honored their committment. When the drama continued after he got to Auburn IMO the Auburn coaching staff washed their hands of him and sent him packing.
