Zeke Pike dismissed from Auburn

  • Zeke Pike, highly rated and skilled Kentucky boy.
Patrick Towles, not as highly rated and perhaps less ‘skilled’.

UK hardly looks at one but recruits the other.

There can be no more striking contrast and should be a prime example folks need to keep in mind comparing future recruiting when questioning why one kid is favored by the staff over another. Regardless whether a player might be a particular fan’s favorite or rated higher by ‘the experts’.

It’s also a good reminder that when these coaches get kids in camps and get to interact with them first hand character and personalities are revealed. Choices are made by both the recruits and the staff during these encounters, the results of which are shown by the pursuit, or lack thereof by the parties involved.

So in the future, if a fan questions why this kid or that kid is not offered without apparent reason, they can remember and reference this.

I know I'll be in the minority here...but I wouldn't be opposed to Joker giving him a second chance, albeit with an extremely short leash. I wouldn't mind Joker giving Zeke a chance to walk on and earn a scholly...under the premise that if he breaks even one team rule, he's done. Also, under the premise that he is changing positions. TE/DE would be a likely position.

I know it's not the popular opinion, and I know it's HIGHLY unlikely to even be in the realm of possibilities. But he made a few mistakes, the same ones a lot of teenagers make. Yes, he's in a spotlight and needs to be mature, but it happened. He didn't abuse anyone....isn't peddaling drugs or running any other scandalous operations. Just my opinion of course.

IMHO, you are not just in the minority...thinking we might consider him at this time is insane! He had a troubled high school record and has continued down that path. If (and that's a BIG if) he goes to a Jr. College or Div. II school for a year or two and has NO incidents, plus does well in academics, we might be able to consider him. He would still have a couple of years of eligibility but would likely have to redshirt his first season with us to learn our complicated offense. This could be a path to him overcoming his boneheaded ways, but I suspect his ego would never let him "settle" for UK because he has shown he thinks he deserves to be a star at a "big time" school. But who knows?

  • See the crazy thing is that since he enrolled early in Spring of 12 his clock started then, so starting with this fall he has 5 fall seasons to play in 4 of them.
HE's going to need to get into a school this semester and then I'm pretty sure will have to sit out until next fall (as far as playing in actualy games). He could go to JC and play a year there and come back immediately eligible. HMM, interesting.
On KY preps there was a rumor going around that he was going to Ar State with Mazloun (sp?). That would be a sick QB/RB combo with Dyer over there as well.

Dyer has already been dismissed at Ark. St. will be interesting to see if Pike drops down and burns a year of playing time or stays D1 and sits out but still has 4 yrs. he can. actually play.

Auburn seems to think the same. Have friend who's brother is on their staff.
