next wr coach

  • I like yeast but I would rather go outside the uk tree. I would go get a former pro that's played the position at a high level. one I'm thinking of is Kevin dyson. I think he is Landon fosters head coach just south of Nashville.

  • Look forward to seeing how we IMPROVE our staff.

    Jared Bonshire

  • You think Cobb is ready to come back and get his coaching career started? ;)

    NateRay

  • My concern is Joker will have a difficult job getting someone who is both a great recruiter and coach because of the shakiness of his tenure at this time. He will likely have no problem hiring a good x's and o's guy, but to get someone who can replace Tee's recruiting prowness with his job in question seems like iti will be a great challege to me. I sure hope I'm wrong.

    Catmando

  • maybe Isaac Bruce. played college at memphis and from ft. lauderdale. that sb bowl ring will perk a kids eyes up. we really need a good hire here.

    dailyminefield

  • Shawn Moore from the Virginia Cavaliers? Their O has bloomed the past couple years and he would give recruiting ties to a hotbed of talent in Virginia.

Either of the WR coaches at Texas Tech? Big offensive passing team, ties to recruiting Texas (more attractive now that A&M is a member) and their outside receiver coach pulled two 3* recruits from Mississippi last year. That wouldn't replace Tee but he apparently has some recruiting connections in the deep south, can't place his name at the moment.

  • Whomever we bring in needs to have ties to either Florida, TX, or Bama areas that Tee was hitting. I'd prefer TX or FL areas.

  • I would like a great recruiter first, and then have him be a good WR coach second.

    UKlaw82

  • Coaching list?

Wesley McGriff - Ole Miss Let him coach the Rb's and move Pardue to WR unit.
Ron Zook - WR & ST coach.
    Jeff Brohm - UAB
    Gerard Parker - Marshall
    Neil Brown - Texas Tech

  • I'll probably get lynched for this, but here goes. When UK decided to retain Coach Phillips this year, I had a bad feeling things like this were going to happen. It truly shocked me that Tee stayed on when Bama came knocking. UK football is a sinking ship right now. I think he knew this, hell most people are aware of it. You have to know the coaches ass' warm up everytime they sit down. The win over UT plugged a few holes, but it's still not seaworthy. If that makes any sense. For UK to move forward, they are going to have to bring in a young energetic staff that is willing to be gimmicky, and aggressive. They also need to play a style that appeals to recruits. All the youthful injections that have happened the past couple years were strongly pushed for by Tee ( ex. Game day music, black uni's). Tee was one of the ones that got "it". He had "it", and know he's taking "it", to USC. He will be sorely missed. Now, on to what i think we need. We need a young WR coach that has strong ties to the deep south. Id give up on the guys in big 10 country. That never seems to work out for us. Its going to be hard to do this, when our head coach is on the hotseat.

    Neil Brown - Texas Tech

Come one, man. Neil is the OC at a BCS school. He isn't going to come here and be the WR coach.

    TransyCat09

  • Transy, I know but I'd love for him to come here and take over the OC position. I'm not a fan of Sanders and would prefer he be relegated to the QB coach.

  • Any chance of getting a young asst coach from FSU, FL, or Bama. We need to bring in a young but great recruiter. To me Tee took a huge gamble!!! Say Joker and UK does win 7 games this yr, and USC lands on another probation problem from Kifen. Tee would be tied to it for yrs. To trust that man is beyond me.

    dvillepro1

  • Were you people not paying attention to who we got to replace Steve Brown? A coach near 60 yrs old from Marshall. Tee has been the only hire made who would be described as a young exciting up and comming coach, everyone else is long in the tooth. Look to Joker to stick with his normal hiring playbook - a coach who was at UK in the 1980's. I'd expect former Kent St head coach/current BC OC Doug Martin to be a strong candidate.

    JHB4UK

  • I bet Jeff Brohm gets a strong look. He seems to be pretty good at the X's and O's, but he would definately get us further up the list on all those Trinity kids.

    80 Proof

  • Sort a, kind a funny how someone like Walter McCarty caught 10x's of hell for going to UL and now there might be a chance 1/2 the UK football staff one time coached at UL.

    Summers, Nord ,Cassity and Brohm(?)

I understand 3 of those 4 have ties to UK. Just at one time we made fun of and belittled them only to see them roaming the UK sidelines.

    bigbluemist

  • I think Parker would be an upgrade in terms of coaching the WR unit, but he's not ready to recruit in the SEC.

  • Definitely need a young vibrant recruiter with ties to Fl,SC,Ga Ala and Miss..Not asking too much am I? lol This will be a stern test for Joker..Hope he doesnt go with an ex player as has been discussed above..We need to do a lot better at this time..

Yes. Our WR's are so good they don't need much coaching at all.

I don't remember much belittling from UK fans towards that UL coaching staff. They ragdolled us 4 straight years with Petrino as their boss. Brohm after leaving UL did a year under Howard Schnellenburger, that had to help improve his X's and O's coaching. Then a stint with the Zooker, of course the best and only thing to learn from him is recruiting tips.

Why would an OC of a BCS school take a step down to come to UK as a WR coach?

  • I would love a recruiter, but if we aren't gonna continuously get 4 and 5 WR recruits I would rather have an adequate recruiter and excellent technician. I think we have good athletes at receiver, I just don't think they're technically sound.

Just tired of the offseason drama and can't understand the draw of Kiffin, his career record as a head coach is well below .500.

  • Okay, assuming that we play a little Beane ball and look to replace Tee's recruiting ability, and not necessarily his position (WR coach):

Sheer name recognition - Lorenzon (had a huge Alabama fan talking to me last night who couldn't have been no more than in grade school when JLo played at UK and he knew everything about Lorenzon. It's amazing how he is still known throughout the south).

    Great overall recruiter - Zook

Helps with the Trinity guys - Brohm

Gets us the Trinity guys - Beatty

Gets us an "in" in Cincy - Mo Douglass

Probably would do a better job than what we think: Yeast

It has little to do with Kiffin, and a lot to do with USC. Arguably, the most revered college football program of all time.

    You're wrong about Kiffin's record:
    Overall 25–13 (college)
    5–15 (NFL)

He's a slime bag, a douch, a weasel, but he's actually not a bad coach, especially as long as his father is around.

I'm sure Alabama, Michigan, ND, Miami, and a few others would have something to say about being the most revered program of all time.
