  • upsetThis new combined board is killing it for non vip posters. I used to love this site but now everytime you read a dang topic all of the sudden everyone goes all vip secret squirrel status and ruins it for the rest of us. If a post is started non vip then leave it that way or just quit letting people post or sign up for free and keep it all secret.

  • I don't always see that I have the option checked. This is especially true when I use my phone to post.

I could see where that might be a bit frustrating in a thread that wasn't already VIP, but that has to be a tiny percentage of the posts here.

We appreciate all our supporters, paying and otherwise. We want it to be a good place for all.

  • It was a bad move for all members. Throwing all topics into a single board requires users to go through all threads. Whereas, the segregation of boards by topics allowed you to sign on and quickly review a single topic.

  • Am I the only one who enjoys not having to go to 3 boards to follow along with all of the conversations?

I disagree, I think its better this way. If traffic gets to be much bigger then maybe. But right now there are only a few premium posts, so I think it works out well.

  • I enjoyed having the separate boards. I think it will be hard to keep track all of the post when football and basketball season overlap next year.

    Keepin in fresh since 1986.

  • It's much better this way. . . not even close IMO. . . As for the VIP thing, once someone hit's the option to "only show it to VIP members" by accident or whatever, anytime someone quotes that post, then it automatically makes their post a VIP post, and the chain reaction begins. . .

Nope. I like it much better as well.

Exactly. I think there are many times when there happens to be a whole slew of posts made VIP when only the first one is VIP. I have noticed this checking in on a computer at work without being logged in and then checking later at home and logged in.

I think it ends up being more posts than the staff (such as JD commenting above) realize.

  • can probably still be improved upon, but I thik it's better than before. I do wish there was some way to know there was an all vip thread so I don't waste my time looking at it. It also sucks when there's a title like: " Possible movement from current comitt" when I see title's like this, I'm not sure if I should worry about losing someone, or be happy we might get someone else's comitt. Such is life. You get what you pay for.

I think it will all work out if all of us (myself included) work on better subject titles.

    Example:

(BAD) "Whoa, is this guy crazy?"

(GOOD) "Johnny Linebacker says he's dropping UK for ITT Tech."

    cool

Little things like that can make it clear what the subjects are.

Our main concern was getting fans centralized and talking all UK sports in one place, and it's been really successful so far. It has exceeded all of our expectations.

  • That can be annoying but I'm not complaining because we used to not even be able to post in here. It's definitely worth the very small annoyance of a VIP filled thread on occasion.

  • For the most part, the feedback has been very positive following the change and I've been very happy with it. Think the quality of the conversation is much, much better now with more folks involved.

I think this applies for some of the Article titles that some how appear on the front page. . . Man some of those just make you scratch your head. . . I think you personally do fine on those though. . . thumbsup

You are right... BUT we are a bit restricted by a limited character number. It's a challenge with many stories.

Yeah, I'm sure the limited character thing plays a big role BUT:

    The Hare and the Hare
    Speed up to Slow Down
Old Guys find Fountain of Youth
    Teflon Terrence Jones bounces back
    Somehow, Freethrows Save Cats

    Man. . . What???

None of those headlines were irrelevant to the stories.

If you don't like them or don't think they're eye-catching enough or think they're corny, whatever. But none of them are irrelevant to the stories, and that's what a headline's job is. I wish we had more leeway in the discrepancy between story headlines and the message board topics that are connected to them, but we don't.

This is quite off-topic, so I won't go any further. I will add that I'm glad many of you enjoy the new format and I hope those of you that don't come around. It's something we as a staff are still very excited about.

Why not just report the news? Why try to (unsuccessfully) be clever??? Get to the point. . .

And, as for the off topic part I was replying to an idea Jeff suggested. . .

That's not how headline writing works for feature stories. For straight news stories, yes, you use a skeleton headline. For other stories, you don't. It gives readers an idea of what to expect. All of the above headlines you mentioned were all feature stories.

Yeah, I guess we're probably just on different pages regarding that. . . I view this site as a place to get updates on recruiting, etc. Not really interested in much other stuff than what Chris and Jeff provide. . . The feature stories and the old newspaper mentality, which is clearly fading away, just isn't the reason I come here. . .
