  • Mat Latos? To quote Seth Meyer, Really? I mean he's good but if he's a teams #1 starter that team is in trouble. The Reds gave up a lot. Especially if that Alonso kid is as good as some think. Maybe Latos is better than I'm giving him credit for but he isn't that imppressive on the fantasy teams I've had him on. He's a #2 on a weak staff. A solid #3 starter though. He does make the Reds staff better. I'm just not sure it was worth what they traded. That's all I'm saying.

  • I'm not a Cardinals fan. Well I like them but they aren't my team. I would feel good about it all things considered though. He's not 31 like he says. He's at least 35. His best years are behind him. Now the Angels are stuck with him for 10 years. 5 of those years will be productive at the most. At least productive enough to justify the money. I think St Louis did it exactly right. 5 years. I think the Latos deal is better than the Angels Pujols deal.

I think you should take a closer look at his actual numbers in relation to MLB as a whole. You'd be surprised at where he stacks up.

He wouldn't be No. 1 on a staff that already has a Cy Young-caliber guy, but he's close. And he's a rock-solid No. 2 for the Reds behind Cueto. That's something they didn't have last year. It was Cueto and a bunch of No. 4s.

  • From an SI report on the deal...

Latos tied a major-league record in 2010 with 15 consecutive starts allowing two or fewer runs.

  • Yeah I was a bit suprised by his stats when I first saw them talking about this trade on ESPN. He's also younger than I originally thought. Let's say you're in the playoffs. A 5 or 7 game series. If a team looks at you and sees Latos as the 2nd guy they aren't scared. If they see Latos as a #3 starter they are wetting themselves. I do agree his stats speak better for him than first appearances and I'm not saying he's a bad pitcher. He's not. He's more consistent than most pitchers.
