****** Cincinnati Reds Talk - April Edition ******

  • This thread is dedicated to all our Redleg fans and MLB fans in general. If you're a fan of another club, feel free to start one of your own to gather your fans. In order to keep the board as free from clutter as possible, we'll try to keep discussion of the team (and the games) inside these threads, unless there's some sort of huge breaking news that would require its own thread.

  • Doc: Know better than to give up on Reds | Cincinnati.com | cincinnati.com

Let the Reds be the Reds, OK? Dont allow a little thing like a 6-3 deficit heading into the home 9th inning scare you away. Even if it is 41 degrees with a slight breeze blowing in from the river. Take that fifth cup of coffee and pour it on your toes.

  • Great opening day today for the redlegs. I jumped and yelled when Gomes hit, I thought his was going out off the bat. Wish I could have made it up there yesterday. I think this year will be more exiting than last, hopefully.

  • Only thing that would make it better would be St. Louis blowing a lead in the 9th and losing in extras. Oh wait......

    Best Opening Day ever!!!!!

What's up, sir Drummond? This wouldn't be my first true post on 24/7 without disparaging Cincinnati. I look forward to June when this monthly thread is already a ghost town and talk of the Bungles has already begun.

Here's to the New Madrid fault line....may it move 300 miles to the northeast and then do its thing.

  • I said it last year Ramon is one of the best clutch hitters we have. He seems to always put the ball in play.

  • The odd thing for me was that even though the Reds were losing all game, when it got to the bottom of the ninth I had a good feeling they could come back.

I guess last season carried over for me.

I had that same feeling, especially the way they were getting a couple guys on base almost every inning. Thought they just needed a break. They got one with that play by the Milwaukee 3B.

  • what opening day, wow. Really did look like a continuation of last year on offense. I liked seeing Volquez settle down and actually pitch solid after the first 2 batters.

I really hope Janish's bat keeps going per last year, i've said it before, but if he is just a .270 hitter he'll be more valuable (with defense included of course) to us than Adam Dunn hitting 40 bombs.

I do worry about Rolen, ever since the 2nd half of last year he's been mediocre at the plate, but his glove and leadership is more than enough to not worry about that.

The key is really health on the staff, we gotta have Homer and Cueto healthy

  • Lot of people in Cincinnati upset with fans that were leaving as early as the 5th inning. With this team and how they always came back last season why the hell would you be leaving that early in a game? They sure missed an amazing finish and a great start to back to back division titles

  • Fans left because Opening Day is a big "Look at me! I was there!" crowd. People treat it like a social function and in turn, make the true fans look bad.

Cubs lose today. I'm just going to count on Cincy going 162-0 and St Louis, Milwaukee & Chicago going 0-162. Seems feasible.

    kaocats

  • The real fans (for the most part) are the ones you find there on Game 2.

75% of the Opening Day crowd probably doesn't see two other games all year.

  • Pretty much. I made plans to go down Saturday not even thinking we would be in the Final Four back when tickets went on sale. I'll make it down there sooner rather than later.

Jeff, looking forward to see you there again this year

Absolutely. Let me know whenever you're planning to go. I'll probably hit up at least 15 games this year. Got tickets for 5 already.

  • Jeff,
Missed your insights on anything to do w/the Reds last year as they FINALLY ended their decade of futility!! For the first time in a while, it's good to say publicly you are a Reds fan w/o getting laughed at. Hopefully this year is even more prosperous than last!

  • Wood throws today. I think he is the best pitcher on the staff this year. Volquez, Cueto and Bailey have higher ceilings, but I think Wood is the most solid in 2011. Eager to see him on the mound.

Also, I didn't know if people are interested, but I posted these last year as blogs/sites that I visit and Reds fans may like.

http://ramsey.mlblogs.com: Jamie Ramsey's blog. Good guy pretty humorous. Reds sent him to Fantasy Camp last year and the pictures/reports have me wanting to go when I can scrape up the cash.

www.redlegnation.com: Excellent site with updates on minors and other fun stuff.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds: John Fay, the Cincinnati Enquirer's main Reds writer's blog. Pretty good stuff.

http://www.daytondailynews.com/o/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/cincinnatireds/: Hall of Famer Hal McCoy's blog. Very good.

Also for the Twitter people, here are the Reds players and bloggers that are on there and entertaining to read during the season and off-season. Mine is www.twitter.com/@jrnall2 for those just wanting someone to re-tweet the good stuff.

  • Congrats to the Reds on their Opening Day win. If I have a second team it is the Reds. My first team though is the EVIL EMPIRE!!!! LETS GO YAN-KEES!!! Off to a great start. We won on Wed. and now are up 6-0 on the Tigers in the 2nd, Texeira just CRUSHED his second HR of the season. Its imperative he gets off to a good start this year. Jeter now only needs 73 hits to 3000. I highly doubt there are enough Yankee fans on this board but if so we could start our own thread.

  • I hate the fact that there's a Reds game tonight, and I won't really be paying much attention. 13 years is a long time, Redlegs. You're gonna have to carry thru without me tonight. Well, maybe not totally without me. I'll peek in a couple of times. cool

  • Halftime coinciding with first pitch was nice. Stubbs gets greedy after stealing 2nd and gets thrown out at 3rd.

Rolen with a 2 run YAKKA!!!!!
