****** Cincinnati Reds Talk - April Edition ******

  • Well between Leake deciding he wants to be a thief and Woods pitching like ish, it looks like two spots in the rotation will be ready for Bailey and Cueto at the end of the month. Funny how these things work out!

  • Going to lose 3 of 4 to the Bucco's AT HOME!! After a hot start, LOTS of questions starting to pop including REALLY BAD STARTING PITCHING!

    ukaveman

  • Buccos!!!

    UK WINS NCAA

  • Embarrassing series for the Reds, but remember, it's April. Bucs swept the Reds last year, too. It's a marathon.

  • I'm not too concerned yet, but there are some things that get my attention. We're having a hard time holding leads it seems. I feel more comfortable being down 3-2 heading into the eight than up 3-2 heading into the eight.

My optimistic side says that we've had a few games blown by our bullpen, two of our expected starters haven't yet played this season, Bruce started terribly slow, and Phillips has missed some games. I think we'll be fine in the long run.

    WildcatDJ

  • Hopefully getting Phillips back on the field will get the Redlegs going again.

    Votto reaches base again. Amazing

  • LeCure doesn't have his best stuff, but a victim of the ball really carrying tonight. Need to find a way to win tonight to get the bad taste of the Pirates series out of your mouth

  • Well as far as April goes, boy, oh, boy, is anyone else glad Volquez didn't sign that contract extension?

Is it true that Mike Leake told the Macy department workers to "put it on his tab"?

If so, what is wrong with him doing so? I wouldn't stand in line if I was a MLB player. Why couldn't he just pay it back later? If not, excuse my naive(ness).

  • We stink right now. I'm remaining patient (and optimistic) but it's hard to swallow losses to PIT and ARZ.

  • Pitching is just terrible right now. Hopefully they can get it together, but it tough to take losses to Pittsburgh and Arizona.

    Kentucky Bandit

  • Another terrible start giving up 2 runs in the first 2 innings. Got to find a way to stop giving up early runs. It is way too early to worry, but 1-3 against the Pirates and 1-3 against the Dbacks just isnt cutting it

  • Votto finally gets the Reds on the board with an rbi double scoring Stubbs easily from first. Need to a couple big hits here and take the lead this inning

  • Got a real bone to pick with the Reds, and it's going back about 20 years now. When is this organization going to have a legitimate lead-off man? You gotta go back to Bip Roberts to find the last prototypical lead-off man to play for CIN.

This team will end up with good offensive numbers over the course of the season, but it still lacks the table-setter. Take tonight's game for example (and others like it recently)...

Stubbs leads off with a rare walk. Great, right? Well, yeah, but 10 minutes and 3 outs later, he's still standing over at first base. We hear time after time after time that "Stubbs is the fastest guy in Reds history," or "Stubbs may be the fastest guy in the NL." Yet the guy rarely bunts to get on and doesn't always look to be aggressive on the basepaths. Arizona's catching situation is crap. I sat there in disbelief tonight watching them stand around and wait for someone to hit a home run.

Deion was even better. The Reds just are not doing the little things that it takes to win games. Like moving runners over, and getting runs in with sac flys. Jeff I agree Stubbs can fly, but when will we ever see it. Seems like Dusty's teams over the years just don't run that much. We really need Edison to step-up, but with a less than great division if we can win 85-88 games we will be there in the end. But, some things are going to have to change. And Jay needs to stop pressing so much and get back to the swing he had over the last month of last year.

  • Good bounce-back win today. Say what you will about Leake's recent transgression (and you can certainly say a lot, so I almost hesitate to praise him at all) but it took some stones to go out and pitch like he did today, given the circumstances.

Hope he can get his life back on track, on and off the field.

  • It was a prefect day to attend a baseball game, Leake pitched really well. I kinda expected to hear some boos for Leake when they announced him, but it was mainly silence, no cheers or boos.

The ball Votto hit was absolutely hammered, the guy is flat out raking at the plate

I don't care if he steals the pants that go with the shirts if he goes 3-0 in his next 4 starts.

  • Amazing how horrid we look against St Louis. Just awful

  • I'm taking a break from watching/listening to the Reds for 3-4 days. I can't take it when they play that dumb/poorly. Gave me huge headache tonight that I still haven't shaken off.

I drown down my Reds attention in steps. Today, I will not visit any of the blogs or Reds sites I normally do, but will watch the game (unless it quits raining and I can get the kids to the Spring Game). Lose today and I'll likely be watching Game of Thrones and The Killing tomorrow night instead.

  • I'm with you all, last night was one of the most frustrating nights watching the Reds that I can ever remember. They should have won the game, yet they have some mental hurdle when it comes to the Cards that they just can't seem to get over. Base-running errors, 1-11 with risp and the one hit was an infield single by Bruce.

Just have no idea why they play so poor and inept against this ball club

  • Well, we know who Joe and Tim are rooting for.

Joe Buck is awful, just awful.

Another winner of the gene pool lottery (Mike Brown, James Dolan, etc)

I would rather listen to George Grande

    TCPUKChampsTCPx

  • Joe Buck honestly sounded disappointed when Votto tied the game today. Too bad they were stuck calling a Reds come from behind win!

Back on the winning side of .500. Let's get the series win tomorrow night in primetime!!!

You'll get your wish....Georgie Boy is calling the games in Milwaukee tomorrow thru Wednesday.

And a big amen to all who loathe Buck and McCarver, they were both just friggin brutal to listen to yesterday.

One of the negatives of the reds success is that we will probably have to deal with them again and again this year as the Reds have a ton of 4pm games.

Hopefully we get another FOX crew during those games.

    GGCAT

  • Hell of a win last night in a game that they had no business winning. Need to come out tonight and take the series, I would assume Volquez will get the start tonight over LeCure. Hopefully he can get out of the first with no damage
